I'm an Arab and it's not like that. At least not that I know of. We actually have a saying " the girl is the useful/benefit (idk, I'm a bad translator), and the boy is the joy for an hour"

Yeah, Muslim men in different countries sell their young daughter to some old geezer who can abuse her after he has “married” her. Yes, girls are very useful, you don’t need to pay for any education for her, you have a free worker in the home, but if she makes one little wrong step, she is seen as dishonoring her family and then her male family members will kill her to maintain their “honor”.

My friend's aunty has killed 7 baby girls through an abortion till now as her husband's family doesn't have any son so they are worried about their bloodline as according to them girls are paraya dhan and they have to leave after marriage so they can't carry the blood line of their families. She is still being forced to conceive and give birth to a son but after these abortions her body is getting weaker day by day although she feels guilty for killing her babies but she doesn't have any other option besides she already has 2 daughters. I bet if she keeps on conceiving for a son she will die sooner or later. Our societal system is extremely f*** up.

That's baby 19. Babies just fall out of her uterus now.
Seriously, after 3-4 births, labour goes super fast, but your risk of uterine rupture also goes up exponentially (the uterus is a very intense muscle and the more you use it, the more irreparable damage you get). 3-5 kids is really the max recommended, safety-wise. Every additional pregnancy becomes increasingly risky to mom because you never fully heal after pregnancy - some damage always stays.

One can make a compelling argument that the Quran actually has a much more egalitarian stance on women than the Bible. And I am saying this as a non-religious person who just likes to study religions.
And then of course there are different branches and schools of thought in every religion. Some of them are more progressive and some of them are less so. And then there are a minority of radicals that give religion a bad name, which is also typical for any religion.
What I want to get through is that demonizing Islam as a whole is just a misinformed stance on the matter.

Fun fact: the father is the one who determines the baby's gender, because the genotype of the woman's egg is XX, meaning she can only contribute an X to the zygote. The genotype of the male's sperm is XY, meaning he can contribute either an X or a Y to the zygote. So if a couple keeps getting girls, it's because the dad keeps giving X's 😊
(TLDR: dad determines baby's gender, if it's a girl it's bc he keeps making it a girl)
Another fun fact: the X chromosome is about five times larger than the Y chromosome and has about ten times the genes of the Y chromosome. So more traits are accounted for on the X chromosome, as well as more diseases. That's why X-linked recessive disorders such as colorblindness and hemophilia are more common in men: if a male inherites the allele for such a disease, they don't have another X chromosome to carry the dominant allele that allows them to not have the trait (the disease). Because females do have another X chromosome, they need two recessive alleles for the disease for it to be present.Think of it as a backup- they carry the allele, but don't present the trait because they have another allele that dominates the recessive allele that gives the disease.
(TLDR: the x chromosome carries more traits, as well as more diseases. Since men don't have another X chromosome, they don't have a backup for the diseases and can get them more easily)

@@AgentMercerits definitely not islam Islam has elevated women or girls. The prophet our mothers must be loved, respect and taken care of 3x than our fathers, he said, the one who raises 3, 2, and even 1 girl children/child properly will will be close to him in jannah. And women are not allowed to take their husbands name after marriage, you must keep your father's name. Is that even possible from where you come from? Every culture have a way of wanting more male children, in those days it was Abt having enough family members to work on the farm lands, protect the family... Ofcourse you can't do that with bunch of women. And in Islam, women must be taken care or, all needs must be fulfilled, so more women means more expenses for such family. Women are not burdens, but are treasures in Islam, hence they must be handle with Care.

For many cultures, definitely not only islamic or Arab, in Europe too, yes, girls were not as desirable as sons.
There were a lot of factors, from more practical ones, like a son would continue the name/the business of the family, daughters needed dowries to get married etc etc etc.
... to the completely insane ones, like the toxic idea that producing sons was evidence of the father's virility and masculinity.
