    Doesn't seem like any of the reviewers can figure this disc out, so I'm glad to hear about it from the maker's mouth.

      And...sounds like it's just a gimmick. I missed any explanation of its usage or intention, since it's definitely not the overhand monster the Epic was.

    • @jockofthebush
      @jockofthebush หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@seymourglass26 Not a gimmick. Thrown on hyzer, the disc will hold the hyzer with maybe a touch of flip up. It shows it's overstability when on hyzer. However, throw it on anny and the gyroscopic flight will hold the anny without burning over hard or panning out too much. The anny flight is the most unique of all the lines you can throw with this disc. There is definitely a use for this disc from the actual flight characteristics, not to mention the ability to customize your grip (front loaded, back loaded, thinner or wider rim grip location, etc).

    This disc is puzzling. I still haven't heard an explanation of the advantages (and disadvantages) of a variable rim width disc. Alan created the Epic because he wanted to maximize the wing width to increase the "speed" of the disc as much as possible. I'm assuming the operating principal here is that longer, slimmer objects have lower aerodynamic drag and can therefore fly faster for longer. The Epic seems to be designed in a way to maximize the rim width while still maintaining all other dimensional limitations set by the PDGA. Of course, this disc is made using recycled and recyclable plastic, which in itself is an admirable innovation, but if there aren't any advantages of designing a variable width disc, why use these resources to create the disc?

    • @caseysmith544
      @caseysmith544 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      There was no maximum rim width when the Aerobe Epic was made. From what I remember when seeing disc in 2005 and on package said he used what was the Max rim width a person could hold comfortably in hand on skinny side. His skinny side was 2.5 cm or 25 mm according to PDGA with a 1 mm allowance for a molding error so when his disc was approved in 2004 26 mm became PDGA max as they did not want brands making a disc as wide as an Aerobe Epic on wide side all the way around rim as flex for a mold would be hard to grip. It was becuse of Aerobe Epic disc why a rim width of 15--16 speed or 26 mm was made as a max rim could be made. The few brands with a claim on a 17 speed disc had a high dome low profile disc.
      In 2008 PDGA was mulling around in several meetings on adding a ruling for Disc Specs saying a 2 cm or 20 mm rim width and a 1 mm tolerance for manufacturing was going to be max because good amateur players and Pro players using discs like a Wraith, Destroyer, new Nuke, and T-Rex on distance were maxing out even some long holes like on USDGC the epic hole needing 450 feet of water carry for the just over 1,000 foot hole on hard route (now only route becuse of one side being OB) players were getting a par 3 on a par 5. Basically, for pro players a Valkyrie/Beast or Orc could just be in very light weights in special durable plastics that had just come out in 2008 for players and thrown very far by pro players on calmer days or make a disc beyond a Tilt or Bunker Buster OS in lightweights only as pro specific discs. fix was on PDGA National Tour and on PDGA National events to change par on courses I was still waiting for a 2 on some where a course had a 200 foot hole like the old Las Vegas Challenge a preseason Disc Golf Pro Tour event having one hole like this but way they fixed issue was to have a basket so tall on specific hole some players like Keith Emmerson needing a persons help getting discs out or going even higher having only the tallest players not having issues.

    • @jockofthebush
      @jockofthebush หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's not so much about the distance potential. You can see the unique gyroscopic flight characteristics of the disc when throwing it on different angles. No disc flies like it, so it deserves to be made and thrown by people who will enjoy it.

    So the disc has a boomerang like “wobble” side to side in the air due to center of gravity being not in the center of the disc. Could you make the disc have non concentric but still equal weight distribution? Like maybe one side is a 7 speed but extra thick like a mid range. And it slowly transitions to driver on the other side?

    I wonder if having a different amounts of mass different distances from your hand could effectively change rotational inertia. Inertia of both of your throw/arm speed and of the discs rotation. Will that change possible throw speeds and/or disc rpms depending on where it’s gripped? Could that even change stability? I’m excited to try it out. Dave has done so much for disc golf in the STL area it’s insane. Gateway Discs should be a stop if you’re in the area.

I feel like you got sold a lemon or something, and I feel bad saying this. A disc that wobbles is going to drag more. If the top of the wing (generating lift) is a point rotating around a lower point because it's out of balance, it will actually cause more wobble. This is just a start. Why... I just... dude sorry.
