Wow! Thanks for the comprehensive video, can't wait to do my own soil mix. Your channel is so under-rated. Subscribed!

Great video! I like that you give the reasoning behind the benefit of each ingredient. And, you provide alternatives in case some ingredients are not accessible.

This is very similar to Bonsai substrate mix and the reasons you give are exactly those I choose this as my preferred blend for my Bonsai!

i just re-potted most of my indoor plants. i found that my previously fluffy mix of peat and perlite had become all clumped and suffocated many roots, in either wet or dry state. i'm just getting into the more mineral mixes, as i've become convinced that using mostly dead organic matter leads to either root rot or alternately hydrophobic conditions. i chose to mix about 80% 2mm pumice with the rest being peat moss. hope they recover.
i think these more open and less organic matter mixes are good for most house plants, not just aroids/epiphytes.
    thanks for your info.

Thank you! This soil mix boosted root growth of rhaphidophora tetrasperma that was sitting only with several roots for 5 months.

I think for that lava rock you can also used cinder...here cinder are used as medium for roses. They are very good. I think cinder are coal rocks

I wonder if this mixture will be beneficial for most orchid’s? Thank you for this good info!

Interesting! That's something I have yet to try. My guess would be that orchuds will need a more airy mixture. Let us know if it works out for you. (:

What does that mean (on your list of plants you use this for), “*this list is non-exhaustive”?

Hi Erik, thanks for checking in. I wanted to share that this aroid soil mix can be used for a wide variety of plants, and it is not limited to only those shown on the list. Hope this helps.

if my plants were in soil should i wash out the soil completely before transferring?

Oh that would depend on the soil that the plant came with. If the soil soaks up too much moisture, I would wash out the soil. Otherwise, I would leave it be to minimise shock to the plant.
