I love this show cause you hear each of the instruments perfectly, and specially John's tone you can hear it crystal clear, it's clean but at the same time so dirty and distorted I love it
I've gotten into working out over the last year, and every day I run 2 miles as i watch a different RHCP show. They're so fuckin good. Today, it was this one, thought I'd reply. 😅😎
@@fmvalada What makes you say that? Because actually, both of us are wrong. Honestly I have no idea why I classified this show as the first. But according to the RHCP Live Archive I regularly use, the very first show of the Californication Tour was AUG 14 , Moscow. So all the shows before that, including this show 18th June, and the one you mentioned in May, were simply separate warm up shows, or promotional shows for the Californication Singles.
During this time period, did John pull his shirt behind his head rather than taking it off completely because he was still insecure about his arm scars?

how am i the first one to point out that john plays pretty much the entirety of power of equality with a broken string?! ohh.. maybe cuz it's still like fucking flawless. you can't even tell, except visually. fucking frusciante, no one can compare
He broke the high e string and the main part of guitar is played on that string open, so what he did was play the e string part on the fith fret of the b string and continued on.
He is a legend no doubt!!! And you have to remember that he was only playing with them again for under a year before this show!! He looks super self conscious and has no build at all, keeps his sleeves down then even when he pulls his shirt back over his head, he doesn't go full on RHCP topless. His body took some serious punishment and I guess his arms must of looked pretty messed up at that point as it was under a year since he cleaned up 100% and in the process had major surgery to remove all the lumps and abscesses in his arms and legs and had veins grafted etc to repair some of the damage IV drug use did to him. If you look at shows a year or so later when he has put a bit more weight on and healed up some more all the scars are still pretty full on. Fair play to the guy for getting through all that shit and to come through it a better man (and guitarist)!
MikeEinziger153 it may be that throughout the concert, JF uses many different pedals, but if you're talking about the classic Frusciante tone, there's only the Boss DS-2.
He used Boss FZ-3 in this era as well as DS-2. His lead tones are really more fuzzy here compared to later years althougt these two pedals are not far away from each other soundwise.
@@junxi9192 not really. This is post jaw surgery and his nose is already starting to change. Cartilage collapses when you snort too much blow. But yes he’s still hot!
Something interesting I noticed is that John in the early parts of the Californication tour does the thing with his shirt, where he kinda half takes it off, but leaves the sleeves on, which I thought was just general Chili Peppers behavior, but I thought about it more and I think its probably to hide his heroin scars. Bc he said in an interview that the first time he had ever shown his arms in a video was in the Californication music video, which came a year later. Just found that interesting.
Damn this concerts great. I love scar tissue on this. Scar tissue has always been a very emotional and weird song for me. The second. It all began earlier: May 23, 1999, Riverport Amphitheatre (St. Louis)

From 11:50 you can already hear some notes from the original solo!
This was ten days after the album was released, perhaps he was with the original melody in his mind and muscular memory kicked in
DUDE!!!! I've been waiting for someone to finally upload a full concert of this show for soooo long. Thank you from a huge fan!
Mother's Milk Very true, that's why I was so happy it got put up again. Cenitri is the man!

Yes, was because of the scars
I dont know but its a good theory
but in the around the world video he is without a shirt and in the californication video too 🤔🤔🤔
how did he get those scars??

They were at their funkiest in 99, love the jams and Flea's tone. Their transition to a mellow By The Way is mind-blowing.
