Dimash was invited to take part in this singing competition between well established proffessional singers. He was the youngest contestant. He couldn't win because the rules did not allow a foreigner to do so. They changed that rule the following year. Diamsh was already a well known singer in his own country of Kazakhstan, Russia and other countries in that area of the world. This competion was the catalyst to him becoming known world wide. The audience (who were the judges all involved in the music world) loved him so much and appreciated his talent. The Chinese pple immediately set about spreading the word about him to the world thus his international career blossomed. So it was a a gr8 stepping stone for him.
Dimash went into that competition in China on purpose. He was invited to compete as a wildcard to fill a vacant position, and they never expected a non-Chinese contestant to get past the first round. But he surprised them singing SOS, and broke Chinese internet overnight with 600+million views, waking up to find guards outside of his door, who then accompanied him for the 3 month competition. Then he stayed in China for nearly 3.5 years doing concerts and competitions and TV, etc., and also in Russia, getting many awards. Not being a Mandarin speaker, he could not win, as the prize included being a 12 month ambassador of music in China, so they made him runner up. SOS gave him immediate international fame from one song, so the benefit was both ways. Dimash does not make mistakes, as you will learn. He is surrounded by many most talented artists, friends, family, teachers, producers, and they all seem to be altruistic. What you see onstage is typical of all of them. So, stay on the Dimash express, which has no stops, but is headed into the distant future. This song was written by Eric Serra for an alien opera singer in this movie and was not considered singable for a human voice. Parts of it were computer generated. There a some female singer who performed this song, but in my opinion not as precise as Dimash. And he is a male! His version from his Bastau concert is short but much better. He was much more relaxed there because it was his concert and no competition. What fascinates me the most is, that he sang this song on his concert where he had already been on stage for almost 2 hours. Just unbelievabel🤯. He performed this song on his first solo concert in Kazakhstan called Bastau in 2017. It was after he finished The Singer competition. He worked so hard for this terrific concert. I was scared at first when I saw him. He was so terribly thin. There is another awesome version of this song. It’s called Drunken Concubine and it is from the Shanghai Spring Festival Gala in China. He sings with a great Chinese Opera singer who usually plays a female in classic Peking opera Li Yugang. The two harmonize so well together. It’s really fantastic. I’m sure you will like it🥰. It was a competition among seasoned professional in China and he was invited as somewhat of a PR thing but his 14 weeks on the show made him known around the world as videos went viral. If you are viewing clips from China, they are more than likely from this competion or the following year when he was aske back as judge and guest not as competitor. "He doesn't deserve to be on this show"???? He did and he showed it with every performance. His second place was only because (since it was a Chinese show) one of the aspects of winning was being a cultural ambassador for China which meant being Chinese. This changed the following year .
Well of course he's "showing off" - it's a contest! Do Olympic athletes hold back in the gold medal round because doing their best would be considered "showing off." All the years of practice, training, and hard work allow him to "play with" his voice. It will do whatever he wants it to. And for those people who ask "How does he do that?," the answer is Practice, Training, and Hard Work on top of a God-given Gift. Start at 5 years old and do it every day for hours, and after 17 years of that (when he was on I Am a Singer) he did it there. And he still practices for hours every day, and he's even better now. Dimash didn't mind coming in 2nd. He was happy to survive the 4 months and get his name out there, globally. And Terry Lin was the singer who went on after him, and Dimash cares for him greatly. Terry is a great singer too. You should check out his performances on the Singer. And if Dimash didn't want to be on the show, he wouldn't have accepted. He was the youngest contestant they had at the time.

He was exposed to millions of people in China ,became a superstar there overnight because of this show ,that at the time did not allow foreigners to win ! He was invited there as a special guest among all professional singers ,he was only expected to sing one night but 😅His album went platinum overnight ,imagine ! He was known in his region but not beyond. He was invited by one of the producers of the show "The Singer 2017", really just a "dark horse". No one, other than the team who would be working with him, the producers, the orchestra, and the backup singers even knew what he looked like until he was on stage to sing S.O.S. He was such a hit that they had to provide him with security the very next day, and he had 6 million followers on Weibo, the Chinese equivalent of Instagram. He was the first foreigner and the youngest performer in the history of the show. The other singers were 12-39 years older than him. Some of the other singers said that it was stressful to perform after Dimash. You really need to get the video with the translation for this so you can understand the passion he put into this song. It's about a man who asks his wife/lover why she no longer loved him and why pretend.

I had heard that each note had to be individually recorded by the singer. A computer makes more sense.
