- * All Nude /crime pics removed * Bunk and McNulty review old homicide cases and try to match them to the Barksdale Organization. Landsman insists they review the case of Deirdre Kresson, a college girl murdered far from the west side, with a "Dee" listed as a possible suspect. McNulty reluctantly agrees to investigate the seemingly unrelated murder since Homicide is currently understaffed. At the crime scene, the two communicate using only variations of the word "fuck" as they recreate the murder and find a shell casing and bullet that previous detectives missed.

Such an incredible scene with essentially zero dialogue and telling an entire story with incredible acting.
Wendell Pierce (Bunk) called it one of his finest scenes as an actor, if memory serves.
Im a better actor i coulda had them laugh and then cry like nothing
I love the little addition of the maintenance man, his silence during the whole scene and his look of amused satisfaction at the end.
One of my favourite scenes! Everything is incredibly well done and sets up bigger stuff for 'other' storylines...
Simon David tagged along with Baltimore homicide for an entire year. There's a trivia on IMDb which goes as follows:
"The scene where Bunk and McNulty investigate the murder of Deirdre, was based on a real life murder. Also Bunk and McNulty communicating using only the word "fuck" was inspired by crime scenes David Simon had visited where the detectives would communicate with each through swearing."
It is very likely that there was a real inspiration for that scene. It's probably mentioned in some of his books, but I couldn't find the source for the time being.
Currently reading 'all the pieces matter' (book about the making of the wire). Wendell Pierce laments the maintenance man saying "well fuck me" was cut
(in Morgan Freeman voice) ..."The superintendent learned a lot that day"
😂
LOL
This scene was a masterclass in directing, acting, realism etc

One of the best scenes in a series full of the best scenes. 💯 This was the one that got me hooked
Same!
me too!
once I saw this scene I knew this would be my favorite show lmfao
One of the best scenes ever created in television history, from THE BEST series ever made. And I've watched a lotta TV.
Compare this to the scene in Season 5 where Lester finds the bodies through sheer intuition. You can understand why Bunk, who is a great detective on his part, is in awe.
That wasn't sheer intuition though, it was attention to detail and pursuing every lead. He talked to Herc with patience and persistence, which made him remember crucial details and ultimately gave him the clue about nail guns. When Bunk just stormed out in anger
If you're referring to when Lester found the bodies in the vacant homes, that's season 4.
Bunk and McNulty!! Best cop duo ever bar none!!!
I like that when they are looking through the grass, you see the maintenance bloke have a little dig with the tip of his shoe, because if you were in that position of course you would!
LOL i didnt notice that
The entire Wire Seasons was Well written & directed
"F**k me.." oh indeed... 🕶🚬
I see what you did there GIMME A BOX A NEWPORT SOFT PACK
It was your firsht time. I wanted to make that shit shpecial.
Classic script writing 😂😂😂
I don't care what anyone says, I don't care what other scene you want to mention, this right here is the best scene EVER aired on television.
I tend to agree, but it's s crazy because as amazing as this scene is, this show is full of scenes that could arguably be the best scene ever aired on television. Snoop and the employee at the hardware store is definitely up there for comedic value and impact based on the nail gun
@@actnow3 Well, but keep in mind I'm not just talking about *good* scenes, I'm talking about *iconic* scenes. Nail gun is a good scene, but is it iconic? I think its hard to say that. Mad Men has a lot of good scenes, but only The Carousel is iconic. I'm talking about stuff that's really, really high up there.
@@actnow3Oh, that was some shit.
Hardware store guy has NO IDEA what he set in motion.
Not even the best on the wire 😂
But I get it
Its great
@@LouLou-ft8yp WRONG. This is the best in The Wire and on TV. Think about how you would describe this scene, "Its two guys and all they say is F and MF for 4 minutes". No other scene can be explained in such a way and that's what makes it iconic.
I’m watching The Wire for the first time ever, and as this scene is going on, I went straight to YT. This is incredible!
Same, literally as I’m typing this right now
Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit......
I love this scene but you KNOW whoever wrote it was probably embarrassed to submit it. 🤣
"I'm about to submit a scene nobody has ever done in the history of the motion picture camera!"
Great demonstration of the versatility of the F word
It must be really annoying to girls that guys can communicate like that. Grunts, swear words, and head nods.
Probably not considering they can tear apart an entire room of people with just their eyes.
Only thing is Bunk should have been wearing gloves when he picked up that shell. Just got his fingerprints all over it.
Oh, you prolly meant "gloves", for a moment I was like "Wait, Bunk was naked and I missed that?!"
@arikelbey lol I dunno what was going on when I wrote that 😄
They wasn't going to check for the fingerprints, it had been lying there a while and probably rained on, it was more about finding the gun
Brilliant scene that still makes me LMAO 😅😅
shiiiiiiiet
Bunk and McNulty, best detective duo in history
“Old Cases”
My favourite scene of my favourite police procedural. Absolute gold.
this scene with forced subtitles hits different
The story dangelo told the boys at the pit
Yep. The LIE he told to get their respect
McNulty even taps the window with the gun three times.
@@TheWireUniwhat lie did he tell
@@ChijiokeChiagorom D'angelo said he was the one who did it, in reality it was WeeBey iirc. Bey must have told him the story.
@@ireneusznoske7478D was there when it went down, he unknowingly was used as the distraction
I like the look on the Super's face at the end of the clip... "It was a pleasure watching you guys work."
Makes me nervous, them digging around in the grass like that with their bare fingers - needles and shit? Ha ha!
Fuck ...
Fuckin' A
I’ve never seen a scene with the same repetitive curse word sound so interesting and intelligent……… great investigative writing
3:01 😂
One of the greatest tv scenes ever. Genius
A great lesson for all aspiring screenwriters: don't overestimate the value of dialogue
Best scene of this show 👌😂
This show has so many best scenes, it's really hard to pick a favourite. I'm all with Omar usually ("I don't know about cards, but..."), Avon ("He a man today"), but Mc Nulty holy shit, this guy... Maybe my fav would be "You don't kill them yourself, MacNulty, at least assure me of that"
They Got All Of This Correct Just By Saying 1 Word “Fuck”👏🏿😂🙌🏿
3min and 47 sec all it took to uncover a murder
Good Police, as they used to say in The Wire.
"Fuckin' A" - And that is how real police do it. And how a stone cold scriptwriter does the movie thing.
Isn't it weird that they patched up the hole in the fridge door where the bullet was lodged? How did that happen? Maybe I'm misunderstanding.
Probably just a maintenance person doing what they were told to do, even if it doesn't make much sense. At one of my workplaces there was a large leak in the roof, and the maintenance people were paid to come in and plaster it (aka drywall) and then paint it even though the leak hadn't been fixed, so it just leaked and ruined it again, wasting lots of money.
@@defragsbin Thanks, makes a lot of sense. Good story.
@@TreeLibrary a lot of time had passed since the murder, the landlord was probably willing to have the flat back on the market, it was not sealed off by the police anymore because the investigation had technically ended. they fixed the fridge like they'd changed the window's glass. it's unpleasant to rent a flat with evidence of a shooting, i suppose.
Real police didn’t ask that man a question, but saw of the crime
This scene really spoke to me
çok iyi amk ya
One of the best scenes ever put on screen
Hahahaha
Fuck
D"angelo had some creep to him
What I dont get is how they knew to check a couple of meters back to look for the casing. Why wouldnt they assume he fired from directly in front of the window?. Bunk measured it out as if they were expecting someone to be shooting from further back, despite McNulty tapping the window moments before. Would there have been powder on the window or something?
Because when you shoot the casing discharge outwards
@@abztraktt6403 Outwards (sideways) but not backwards (it cant pass throughj the shooters bodies). I assumed D tapped on the window and Bay shot from behind metal railings. McNulty and Buk were working on the assumption D was the shooter and was alone.
@@charly03090309 D wasn't actually there, he heard the story from Bey and told it as if it was his own. But you're right that where the casing ended up is in the wrong place. Probably just as simple as wanting to keep Bunk in frame during the cool reverse shot through the windowpane.
@@ImTheSecretSquare I thought that when D confessed after being arrested with weight he said "I swear I didnt know he was gong to do that", or words to that effect, implying he was there. I may be misremembering
Sorry, I think he was there, but he was just driving.
