Not sure if it's been mentioned already, but the "boingy-boingy" instrument is called a jaw harp. It's also used to lay the rhythm in the triple triad theme.
You win the comments section. What's funny is I actually enjoyed the Triple Triad theme. Funny how context and nostalgia can color our appreciation of music.
@@Meromorphic Based. 😎 I'm not sure it's a matter of nostalgia. I never really played 8 (only like, an hour over at a friend's house) but I played 10 many, many times. And I _still_ like the TT theme better. The Mi'ihem theme is just kinda repetitive. Sidenote, although to a lesser extend, the jaw harp is also used in Shadow's theme in FF6, and the Taejin's Tower theme in 13.
Something important regarding Jecht: He was only verbally abusive towards Tidus, and his drinking was a result of his skills as a blitzball player were fading with age. It's why he went out to sea to train, which is something he never did prior. The only time Jecht did something physical towards anything while he was drunk was towards the Shoopuf, and the fallout of him attacking it lead Jecht to never drink again. I don't think the game made any attempt to handwave his abuse towards Tidus, as he does get to confront and finally say to his father that he hated him, but rather show that Jecht just wasn't equipped to be the father that Tidus needed. Jecht was apparently quite kind to Yuna, so its implied that in Jecht's mind, that he had to be kind to girls and tough with boys, and he was very tough with Tidus, who responded negatively to that kind of parenting 'style'.
I think what happened with Wakka's brother Chappu was the reason Wakka got so invested in Yevon and blamed all Al Bhed for his death. Important story plot to understand Wakka.
He was already against Al Bhed before that and chappu taking up machina was symbolic of a betrayal that led to his death and reinforced the teachings he's been a part of his whole life this far.
Silly wakka chappu died due to the massive aetheric disrespect his racism brought about like fuck if he knew yuna and Rikku are al bhed he’d probably shoot up the blitz stadium with that ghetto blitz ball I mean as a black man I’m picking up what wakkas putting down don’t trust those spiral eyes ya Machina invented CBT which coalesced into sin brotha
I played FFX and lost touch with it over the years. When I found it again recently and watched FFX-2 endings, it was the closure I never knew I needed but got after learning the story line. FFX has been cemented into my soul. Beautiful, is an understatement to how well this game and story was made.
You right. He's brave, selfless, and emotionally intelligent. Moreso than some of the 18+ characters tbh. My only issue with him is the instant attraction to every woman he meets. Like c'mon isn't it obvious Yuna is supposed to be your end game dude lol
I love this game. And I made sure to speak with every member of the group at every opportunity, even multiple times until they repeat something they said already. Players can get a lot of info on both the story & dynamics doing so just as they do in finding Jecht spheres laying around all over Spira. Like why Kimahri is with Yuna and how she ended up in Besaid despite Bevelle being where she's originally from. Little things like that are gems in Final Fantasy games I enjoy most.
I've been really enjoying the video so far but there is two things i wanted to point out. Seymour does have a compelling motivation to be a reoccuring villain, and it is explained in game, though apart from the jyscal sphere and the flashback of him and his mother in the Blitzball dome in Zanarkand, the big details are missable through an optional sidequest. He isn't pining after Yuna, she is a means to an end. He wants to become Sin so he can use its power to kill everyone in Spira. He knows the final aeon process due to his mother being his guardian and becoming Anima. Through the trauma he experienced in life he has snapped and truly believes the only way to end suffering in Spira is to end life in Spira. This is all explained in the Anima sidequest. The second thing is there is an easy way to see the sphere grid as a whole. You can zoom all the way out actually. And everyone's paths are color coded. Still takes a little bit of looking i suppose but it is simple enough to figure out where to go.
I'm currently at the Bevelle portion of ffx and... tbh I think seymore is pining after yuna just a little lol. He seems pretty upset about the possibility of Yuna being put to death. He still cares about power more than her, but I think it's convenient for him that she happens to be the best choice as his means to that end you mentioned lol
@@LydiaTaylorMusic I'm certain he finds her attractive, she is after all. But no, I don't think that necessarily means he is pining for her. If yuna is out to death, then his best option for becoming Sin is lost. He wants to become Sin to kill everyone. I'll say that at the Bevelle portion of the game you have yet to see a lot of the stuff I was talking about yet. Just wait. I hope you're enjoying the game so far!
So glad this video popped up in my suggested. Final Fantasy X came at such a tumultuous point in my young life and I saw myself in Yuna, I admired her resolve and her strength. I thought “if only I could be that strong.” I smiled, a lot back then, even when everything was falling apart, so much so that people asked “why do you smile so much” or said “it’s weird.” I stopped smiling one day and that was when the weight of everything I had to experience began to crush me. Ultimately I wasn’t as strong as Yuna, but I always find myself returning to this game and its sequel when I am at my lowest. X-2 wasn’t awful or unnecessary like other comments have stated, but that audio drama was. 😂
Thank you for sharing your story. 😊 I think it's great that you connected so much to Yuna. Really speaks to the strength of writing. I hope everything is well for you
This island and religious themed final fantasy was amazing. The visuals and voice actors for the time were wonderful. Aurons speech against yunalesca shook me as a youth.
56:00 I don't see any other comments discussing this, so I'll say it: I think you have some misunderstandings of the order of events and what is actually happening here. Firstly, Fayth explanation explicitly states that Zanarkand was destroyed first, and then the dream Zanarkand was summoned after with help from the survivors. The summoner who did that, Yu Yevon, then summoned Sin as his armor to go and get revenge, but lost his humanity in the process, possibly unintentionally. As for the location of dream Zanarkand, I don't see how you got the conclusion of it being physically located in the world, let alone the ocean - it seems pretty clear that it is sort of "virtual" as in it is entirely a dream with no specific physical location in the world. That aligns with how other summons can continue to "exist" even while they are not actively summoned into the physical world, they don't teleport to and from some secret storage location in the physical world. This is also why Tidus is able to sort of re-enter the dream world by touching the Fayth wall, it's likely Auron entered the dream Zanarkand the same way. The Fayth can't stop dreaming as long as Yu Yevon lives and refuses to end the summon, but it seems they were at some point able to get Jecht summoned into the physical world, and then Auron and Jecht as sin helped get Tidus out into the physical world as well. The place Tidus wakes up in the physical world is just where Jecht/sin left him. So, Sin was never intended to "guard" the "physical location" of dream Zanarkand, because it doesn't have a physical location and Yu Yevon probably didn't expect the Sin thing to turn out like this. It all sounds like it was done in the heat of grief and anger; so many lives lost to war, a desire to recreate the city that was lost, and a desire for revenge against the attackers, not a healthy mental state to be in when summoning powerful magic armor.
Hey everyone. Thanks for being so patient with me while I put this insane video together. Between that and my day job, shit was stressful for a while, so knowing I had your support meant the world to me. You all are awesome!
Your video , work and locution its awesome. Absolute amazing piece of work that i´ve enjoyed every second to see. I love this Final Fantasy, as it´s also a part of my early teens. Thank you so much for your work.
Bro, just thought you like to know: Weapon sorting was in the original release of the game. Dunno how you missed it, but it's always been there. You just gotta go in through the item menu to do it.
This video immediately teleported me back 20 years in time, sitting in the corner of my parent's cabin, having been finally allowed to buy my very first console after months and months of nagging. It came with this stupid Japanese RPG I didn't really care about, and a copy of Devil May Cry I was fawning over. After finishing DMC, I didn't really have anything else to play on it, so might as well see what this other weird game is about. Life. Changed. Forever. This was probably the first time I ever experienced a story which just wouldn't let go, even after finishing it, and I have been hunting for its equals ever since. I might have some exceedingly strong sentimentality over this game, but even trying to look at it objectively, it is by far the strongest and most impressive story and worldbuilding of any FF game before or since. I've gone around and played most of the FF games by now, and nothing has managed to quite scratch that initial itch that FFX brought on to a young impressionable myself. There are a lot of tragedies in the FF series, but nothing hits me as hard as watching Yuna breaking down ,trying to deny reality, right before Tidus jumps off the ship (Oh, and thanks for ruining that beautiful and hauntingly sad ending by tacking on a completely unnecessary sequel which made it completely redundant. Real good job there Square. I'll just continue to go about and pretend it doesn't exist). I really do wish Square would try to go back and make a completely different game than their usual affair like this one. One less gloomy and full of brightness and life, even if the story itself is at the end of it all a tragedy, and with actual likeable characters who are properly fleshed out with their own motivations and agency. And while I'm at it, it wouldn't hurt to get rid of their hack and slash-esque combat which completely removes any challenge and problem solving other than just mashing buttons in the correct order, which have plagued their latest games in the series. Seriously, if I want to play War of God, I'll play War of God.
I mostly agree, however you can’t say something is objectively the best, the best game in the final fantasy series will always be subjective. Objective: It has story and world building. Subjective: It has the best story and world building.
You hit the nail when you said you have sentimentality affecting your feelings about this game. You could replace all references to FF X in your text with FF7 or FF8 and it'd be my experience. I'm not trying to sound argumentative here, just pointing out that it seems like a lot of people adore the first FF game they played and try to search for the same feeling from other games afterwards, usually failing to find the same "magic" in them. For me, I found that magic first in FF7, then in FF8. FF9 did not do much for me and unfortunately I did not even finish FF X. I realize that might sound backwards to you, though. :)
You are able to sort equipment in the Inventory/Items tab of the menu (not equipment). Yes, it's weird, but that's how. I am sure someone else may have said, but I can't see that in the top few comments
You can sort item by checking your item list > clicking equipement > then sort auto (all of this is a the top of the list) then your item will be sorted in to sell as well 1:17:50
I was so glad when you played a clip from the first sending -- that's my favorite version of the Hymn of the Fayth. Sometimes I'll look up that scene just to FEEL something....... [chills]
I actually believed they were going to implement it into FFXIV when they introduced underwater gameplay with the second expansion and was gutted to still not see it. Yes, this would be so amazing in any form but just imagine an ffmmo with a great blitzball implementation.
I love this so much - thank you for this detailed review. I am a similar age at 30 today and still feel so nostalgic with any mention of FFX. The romance was just beautiful - the scene at the Malacania Woods is something out of a dream for me. I had a massive crush on Tidus when I first played it but he does come off as a lovable idiot now LOL.
Hey no shade. Tidus is kind of a little shit, but he is a *cute* little shit, nonetheless. He's the type of character that you love to be annoyed by, IMO. Thanks for watching!
I’m 30 too and had a huge crush on Yuna at the time 😂 even more so in X-2, the nostalgia those games bring me is immense! I class it as a very special part of my childhood & it’s the first ever video game that I grew an emotional bond to
I just hope that we get a remake one day... the character models looking exactly like the CGI cutscenes would be insane.. the world much bigger.. ugh i wish that dream would come true
Remake could be cool, but they did do a remaster back in 2015. It’s downloadable on PlayStation store and a few other places I’m sure. Graphics look a LOT better and they definitely added a good chunk of new things.
you can sort items in the inventory menu. sure there's no "filtering" but you CAN sort items. Also the GRIND in this game is SO FUN! At least it was for me.
One thing I think is often overlooked about Jecht is he wasn't so much neglectful, but Tidus was always wanting his mother's attention, but she was always fawning over Jecht which lead to resentment n then blame
FFX was my very first one. I bought a PS2 Slim from someone in high school and X came with it and I had always heard good things about Final Fantasy so I booted it up and just the opening cutscene with “To Zanarkand” always makes me tear up. Such a beautiful game and I’m glad it was my first Final Fantasy.
I personally like that they made jecht have his redemption story offscreen , coming from someone with parental issues as well, the way I see it is that; yeah the parent was an ass, but they had good intentions and sometimes it’s not entirely their fault either. My parents had harsher parents who ingrained that toxic “tough” love into them so when they had me, they assumed because they weren’t AS harsh as their parents, they were doing it right. I now know not to hold it against them because it went back to how THEY were raised. So the final battle with jecht and how awkward they both are hit me hard. Because that’s how I am with my mom. I didn’t need to see a redemption to understand the feelings between them and it still makes me cry to rewatch that scene.
I am playing through this one right now. I’ll come back and finish this video once I finish the game. It’s my first FF, but I just never find the time to finish it, but it is very good so far.
Omg the Yunalesca fight blew my mind as a kid! The song that plays as Yuna, this quiet & soft spoken teen with such strength/fortitude makes her grand speech, strengthening both the player & the party's resolve before entering this epic 3 stage boss fight (and I despise the word epic). Wish you showed a bit of her other stages the visuals are top notch. I don't think they've made a comparable FF game since this one. FFX-2 was a fun 'summer vacation' feeling game although the end boss was underwhelming with barebones music (so disappointing) no other FF made me care so much about the characters/world/lore/ending/etc. The mix of ruined future city, Asian tropical island décor, the submarine themed Al-Bhed; the world building presented at every turn is 10/10 and I wish they'd revisit the world of Spira. So beautiful!🥰
I understand what you say about finding different meaning in a game with age, I remember playing ff9 when I was a teen, I liked, but it didn't left too much of an impression on me, I played it again in my 30s, It literally make me cry, several times, the themes of death and inevitability are as close to my heart as anything can be, unlike sephirot or Seymour, I perfectly understand why kuja did what he did. FFX didn't do the same for me but I still enjoyed it and I enjoyed your video.
The moral oral video popped up on my feed a month ago, enjoyed it a lot. Random show I would watch with robot chicken while in high school. Same time in my life I was playing games like FFX which happened to be my first final fantasy. Your voice is easy to listen to and it was interesting to hear your takes on a classic game like this. Keep up the hard work and passion, it shows in your videos!
😄 That's genuinely so nice to hear. Thanks Andrew. NGL, I HATE listening to my own voice (tbf, I think most people do to a degree), so it's good to hear it's not as grating to others. 😅 Anyway, hope you enjoy my future stuff.
Blitzball is awesome. Those who didnt like it either dont like sports games or they never took the time to actually learn how to play. I spent hours playing just to take a break from the main story. Admittedly, I didnt get it on my first playthrough and I probably wouldve said it was stupid if u had asked me back then but I got into on my second playthrough and by my third, I was hooked. I think that once u have put in enough time to get Wakkas legendary weapon then you probably enjoyed a lot of it.
1:35:40 Iirc, the intended method of discovering the secret coordinates was to discover all the Al Bhed Primers and fast travel back to locations that had those blue plaques mounted to the walls/sides of the environment. This is actually pretty cool except for the fact that some Primers are _literally missable_ and if you missed your chance to get it, and you saved your game past that point. You HAVE to start over the entire game, _but_ , retain that files Primer Knowledge. Which admittedly, the first time is pretty cool when you're playing through Ruined Zanarkand when Rikku first finds you, and you can somewhat understand the Al Bhed this time. Other than that, it is disgusting in its implementation and absolutely rude in punishing players who just weren't perceptive enough and are then required to sink another 7 hours into the game just to find that 1 Primer they missed _if_ they even know where it was that they missed it. At least the internet spills the coordinates/messages the Primers reveal so it's not too much of a hassle but my god, when I first played this and I figured _this_ was why I missed 3 Primers on my save file I think I would've gone insane
Jecht's story isn't one of redemption so much as it is one of understanding. There was things Tidus didn't see of his father and how he showed his love wasn't clear to Tidus as a kid. Yes he was an alcoholic and he did shit he shouldn't have but that was minor and resolved in the stories told of his journey. In the end, Jecht's love throughout the entirety of Tidus's life is made obvious but Tidus knows that his hatred of him is what made him who he needed to be to free Jecht of what he became in Sin and so that's why his final words to him are "I hate you" because through this resentment is how he came to find out that his dad loved him and that he loved his dad too because the line between love and hate is very fickle.
THIS, also Tidus's anger at him is another way of keeping Jecht around after he has disappeared and gone. Tidus realises this himself in his internal monologue during the farplane scene and that his anger stemmed mostly from his mother ignoring him whenever Jecht was around, after Yuna asks him to call for Jecht. Tidus grows through his experiences in Spira just like Jecht himself did. That's why the sentiment is different by the ending when they finally meet face to face and he gets to say it. Because he doesn't actually hate his dad.
Me and my friends always called tidus meg ryan. And when you made that borat joke at the beginning i laughed a bit to hard. That was me and my friends. Borat jokes all the down to this day
I love the insights you've brought to the game in this review. I feel one point I disagree with you on, however, is the relationship between Jecht and Tidus. I agree that the game does work at painful lengths to turn Jecht into the tragic hero, to push the player to forgive him, but I think this is offset by the final confrontation. The last thing Tidus says to Jecht is, "I hate you" - then goes on to embrace Jecht at the end. Furthermore, it is shown through Tidus growth, that he /does/ look-up to his father in some manner in his wanting to be a blitzballer, and his wanting to even be able to do the same shots that Jecht can and "be better" than Jecht, and even using the same type of weapon that Jecht himself used. The game I believe goes at length to prove to the player why Spira loves Jecht, even though Tidus cannot, and this comes to a head when Tidus, despite it all, still cannot say "I love you" to the man who sacrificed himself to save a nation, a man who he did his best to be just like and eventually outdo. I agree that the relationship could have been explored more, in particular why this is such a nuanced relationship and why Tidus cannot love the man, but I think the relationship is appropriately explored.
I’ll never forget getting 0:00:0 in the Chocobo race as a kid and not getting the sigil. You technically need to get BELOW 0:00:0 even if the game doesn’t show a negative time. I was so pissed because I had been chocobo racing for literal days.
I played FFX with my friends and cousin back in 2002, and from everything we remembered about our first play through we basically figured out that Yuna was preparing to die after defeating Sin with the Final Aeon/Summoning... it seems some people couldn't figure that out before it was revealed in game, but as I recalled we had it figured out by the way Yuna was acting strangely before she left for Kilika and I even asked my friends if they remembered the same thing and they we like yep we all knew it...
The quality for this is up there with some much larger channels and I gotta give you props for that. Had this on the background while grinding madden thanks for the help 🫡
Wonderful video. Just a couple of things I wanted to add. Absolutely no disrespect to you, I just love this game so much lolz. (Spoiler territory below) 1.) Belgemine is a great example of a missable side character. The first time you can meet her is actually on the Mi’hen Highroad before the Operation. If you do this one, Yuna will say something like “I fear you might beat Sin before me because you’re so much better”. Belgemine’s response is an ominous “I can’t… Or should I say, I was not able to”. Which is an allusion to her status as an unsent that you wouldn’t pick up on your first play. Then after the whole wedding/church corruption, you meet her again in the Calm Lands and she’s like “Fuck those crusty dusty men, mama. You are THAT bitch, Yuna, and don’t let them try to tell you otherwise.” 2.) This one requires multiple playthroughs, but with Operation Mi’hen, you can either save Luzzu/let Gatta die OR save Gatta/let Luzzu die. If Gatta lives, you get a scene with him where he has an existential crisis about seeing all the dead bodies of his comrades around him and being one of the few left alive. If Luzzu lives, you meet up with him at Djose and he says basically that Gatta wasn’t even supposed to be there to get killed by Sin. This prompts a super dark moment from Wakka who likens it to Chappu with basically “yeah, I wonder what that feels like” since Luzzu got Chappu to join. And if anyone wants to talk shit about the voice acting after either of those scenes, fight me. 3.) Seymour actually is pretty fleshed out in this game. He’s just nihilistic as shit, which most people don’t vibe with. Like. He’s seen the corruption of Yevon both as someone ousted by the church AND someone at the top. So his solution to “end the cycle” is to become Sin and destroy everything, thus “releasing” everyone from the same corrupt church he despises, that took his mother away. 4.) This is more a quality of life thing, but you can reset Blitzball stats, which resets prizes. You’ll have to recruit players again at their base stats, BUT you’ll only really have to play about 15-20 games, rather than 40+. 5.) Wandering Flame is hands down the best track on this OST, and used surprisingly sparingly in narrative moments, which makes it even more poignant. But my favorite thing is how many of the tracks are just different tempo/instrumentations of “To Zanarkand”, which gives us a running theme to tie most of the tracks together. Specifically thinking of the island themes and the game over screen. Again, loved the video. Just felt like a few things got glossed over lolz
Man I remember when George Bush made his appearance in Final Fantasy X. Just before he was about to jump into sin he said “it’s bushing time” to Tidus&co. Made me tear up so much.
Bro talking about aol cds absolutely killed me they used to have them attached to newspapers and you would get them in the mail all the time. I love x and x2 and won't ever retract
Final fantasy 10 was that initial moment as a 10-13-year-old finally picking up a video game with enough self to actually remember interacting with it; and how much it impacted and just expanded my viewpoint and was just an adult story that really hit me hard and like it had meaning. I never had that with media before. so it always be something very special to me deff the best Final fantasy in my opinion
whats funny is that Final Fantasy X is my #1 game, not just RPG, but video game. And it came out when I was born. I only got it when I was 8 because it was an older game by that time and the PS2 was an older console, so we bought it pretty cheap. I have so many memories trying to get past the one Machina that kidnaps Yuna, and you have to fight it underwater with Tidus, Rikku, and Wakka. I remember not understanding a single rule of Blitzball and getting angry at losing the first match against the Luca Goers in the story, and not understanding that I was _allowed_ to lose. Seeing those cutscenes always made me feel like a kid again and it almost makes me cry every time I see Yuna and her guardians together
In Part II, THERE IS A WAY to sort equipment by player, but you have to do it from the menu not the buy/sell menu. You actually have a command that says "sort"
I do want to say, about equipment, there is a way to sort them. You go to your inventory, go to the equipment tab and it gives you the ability to auto sort or manually sort.
honestly this game deserves a full remake . tidus and yuna are pretty much artificial celebrities.. everyone knows them and i typically dont pay attention to males but tidus is a damn cool lookin dude, and yuna is just deadly beautiful
Farming experience in that first fight with Sin and then shredding everyone but that last boss to paper was the most power I have ever had; I'm still chasing that high.
Ya i get it. Doing all of the capture arena and maxing the sphere grid takes ages. Its really hard to find motivation to do it again when you already have. Im sure the feeling of acomplishment after a second time isnt as great either
Its funny as i just reinstalled the game recently and end up on your channel. Cool video. This game was ma true first j rpg as a kid and going back at it now with more maturity made me realised one thing. How in touch with our times the story is. The concept of Sin(the boss), the idea that humans fought each other with machines so powerful it could destroy earth...trying to always control everything and thats "how" it was born. That nature will always take power back over humans ,one day or the other and that we cant control it. And so much positivity and deep philosophy following Tidus growth. I cant stop but feeling a huge flow mixed of nostalgia and happiness replaying this game. (Ps : the fighting system is so good if you get intouch with its basics such as overkill, switching char, boosting and much more...)
Great video keep it up homie! I really like X too, every time I watch videos like this it makes me appreciate it even more. From the incredible music, the polynesian setting, all the lore they created just for one game, the past and present story and of course the romance. I hope someday a studio tries to write a romance that connects with me like this one.
When talking about the special mechanics in some battles you showed a clip from the Macalania battle with Seymour. Did you also know alongside the trigger commands, if you use Steal against the Guado Guardians, they cannot use auto-potion anymore?
Also fuck me I love this game's music but no, god no I agree so much on "BOINGY BOINGY" cause later on in playing I had the Peace Armguard on Kimahri which removes random encounters and I got to travel that road safely and it was magical after dying multiple times along the way as a kid lmfao
You can definitely sort your equipment in FFX. I can see how someone could miss it though. In both the original and remaster from the menu screen, select item, press circle (or B), press right twice and select equipment, then you can either select manual or auto sort. Auto will separate weapons from shields and arrange them all by character type. The same can be done for items. I find it to be not just useful, but necessary
1:14:49 About the overdrives, limit breaks based on health was exclusively an FF8 thing, Overdrives work similarly to limits and trances in FF7 and 9 respectively, in FF10's case it's more like FF7 and unlike FF9's trance(thank god)
i liked that you could craft pseudo ultimate weapons if you farm enough monster arena because i couldnt care less about playing blitzball or dodging lightning strikes
I remember myself at Toys R Us pulling the slip to buy this and MGS2. I remeber I had $100 to spend and I blew it all on those games. Great times and no regrets
@@yurigagarine6998 FFX was considered horribly outdated by that point. As crazy as the jump from 90s media technology to early 2000s was, the jump from early 2000s to mid 2000s was absolutely insane. By 2006 we had blu ray technology.
This game is nostalgic for me because it was the last game I was able to play. They moved on to hack n slash dynamics after this (apart from a few remakes and handheld exclusives)
Love your FFVIII "love story" and this video as well! For me FFX is my love story, all the emotions you felt with VIII I felt with X... For some reason the the emotions that the game make me felt really struck something deep. It was one of the only game that has ever made me cry and be sad, but at the same time trigger a rush of adrenaline and happiness... FFX will, no matter what people criticize, be the epiphany of gaming for me! It was the introductory drug into life of gaming and the last nail in the coffin for my love of the FF world! Amazing video, amazing work and so glad there is someone to relate to regarding the love that FF games bring into this sometimes dark world
And I can also relate to your story about the rush of memory 20ish years back when you remembered how you were first introduced to the game. Although I suffer from problematic long term memory retention, the mention of FFX brings me back 15+ years into my friends living room who asked me to come and check out his new PS2 (at that time I couldn't even dream of owning it) and the first game he showed me was FFX. I remember so clearly his frustrations of him can't beating SIN and continuing the story and me helping him out with the strategy since I played FF VIII and VII prior so I knew how the game works. Him finally beating the SIN second fight in and me being so proud I felt like a FF pro. It's funny how so little can evoke so many things in our minds
You just need to play 9. You really do. Like really really do. It's seena real rise in popularity over the last few years and is deserving of all the love. Would love to see a review from someone playing it for the first time.
Not sure if it's been mentioned already, but the "boingy-boingy" instrument is called a jaw harp. It's also used to lay the rhythm in the triple triad theme.

Nope. It was his parents dying and him being taken in by the yevonites of Besaid Island
He was already against Al Bhed before that and chappu taking up machina was symbolic of a betrayal that led to his death and reinforced the teachings he's been a part of his whole life this far.
Silly wakka
chappu died due to the massive aetheric disrespect his racism brought about like fuck if he knew yuna and Rikku are al bhed he’d probably shoot up the blitz stadium with that ghetto blitz ball
I mean as a black man I’m picking up what wakkas putting down don’t trust those spiral eyes ya
Machina invented CBT which coalesced into sin brotha
I played FFX and lost touch with it over the years. When I found it again recently and watched FFX-2 endings, it was the closure I never knew I needed but got after learning the story line. FFX has been cemented into my soul. Beautiful, is an understatement to how well this game and story was made.
"tidus is pretty unlikeable" ????? really? tidus is the greatest FF character ever. Shocked by that statement
This game was so different, it’s exactly the reason why I love final fantasy
I hope everything is well for you
Im like you but from a male perspective lol or teedus ffx still till day as an a adult my fave game keep your head up aye...
The first FF I played, beautiful ost, world building with charming characters. The Luca theme always makes me smile. Lulu best girl btw
My first too! So great.
Can't believe you didn't mention "Wandering Flame" the best track on the entire OST and plays through Tidus' journey through Spira.
I somewhat agree but I put via purifico above it.
EASILY the best one
Maybe the best track in all of the Final fantasy OSTs
You mean Challenge?
👀🤣🤣🤣
I love seeing a new retrospective video on this game uploaded every half a year or so, makes me keep hope alive for X-3!! Great video!!
@@MeepitVader fucking WHAT. I looked so long for that.
@@michaelpaul92 your subjective opinion is, in my subjective opinion, objectively wrong
You can sort item by checking your item list > clicking equipement > then sort auto (all of this is a the top of the list) then your item will be sorted in to sell as well 1:17:50
i was coming to post the same
I was so glad when you played a clip from the first sending -- that's my favorite version of the Hymn of the Fayth. Sometimes I'll look up that scene just to FEEL something....... [chills]
I have been screaming for a blitzball game for like 10 years. It brings tears to my eyes to find another person wishing the same!
I actually believed they were going to implement it into FFXIV when they introduced underwater gameplay with the second expansion and was gutted to still not see it.
Yes, this would be so amazing in any form but just imagine an ffmmo with a great blitzball implementation.
@@Civilchaos it would instantly take me back from my XIV break!
I’m 30 too and finally beat the game this year. What an amazing story.
I've seen you play almost all of these and now can't wait to watch the vid.
One thing I think is often overlooked about Jecht is he wasn't so much neglectful, but Tidus was always wanting his mother's attention, but she was always fawning over Jecht which lead to resentment n then blame
They seemed like poor parents tbh.
Good luck and have fun! Report your findings.
Anyway, hope you enjoy my future stuff.
Fantastic video, great job brudda.
This is one of the best videos focused on nostalgia I’ve ever watched. Bravo 🎉

Iirc, the intended method of discovering the secret coordinates was to discover all the Al Bhed Primers and fast travel back to locations that had those blue plaques mounted to the walls/sides of the environment.
A lot of the engame content is ridiculous like that. Not that its all missable, just that it required a huge commitment of time and grinding
Borat jokes all the down to this day
'In huwwuhawa temple' fucking lost it.
I don’t know why but “liquid water” made me 😂☠️
Amazing man. I can remember all this, even playing the demo in Sam goody
Another amazing video essay to listen to while doing homework or playing video games!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
It's nice to see someone young enough to be doing homework appreciating Final Fantasy X.
This game needs the ff7 remake treatment the story is so good it would sell crazy and I love the music so much
I love the insights you've brought to the game in this review.
The true turn based battle system... every day i wish for that to be trendy again so i can die in peace
A very thorough and well put together video. Nice job. 😎
I’ll never forget getting 0:00:0 in the Chocobo race as a kid and not getting the sigil. You technically need to get BELOW 0:00:0 even if the game doesn’t show a negative time. I was so pissed because I had been chocobo racing for literal days.
Oh man. I might have seriously broken something if that has happened to me. Lol
Just got this on my Nintendo switch !! Been playing since I was 9 yrs old back in 2002. This game changed my life growing up.
That scene where Tidus and Jecht high-five at the end always makes me tear up. The only FF I've ever beat more than once.
This was amazing and gave me chills at some points
I played FFX with my friends and cousin back in 2002, and from everything we remembered about our first play through we basically figured out that Yuna was preparing to die after defeating Sin with the Final Aeon/Summoning... it seems some people couldn't figure that out before it was revealed in game, but as I recalled we had it figured out by the way Yuna was acting strangely before she left for Kilika and I even asked my friends if they remembered the same thing and they we like yep we all knew it...
I was in 7th grade in 2001. I recalled getting it on a Friday evening and playing it until the we hours of the morning.
The quality for this is up there with some much larger channels and I gotta give you props for that. Had this on the background while grinding madden thanks for the help 🫡
It took me 3 whole games for me to win that first fight during the opening of blitzball
Choose your unexpected TH-cam video intro fighter: Skill Up's Boat metaphors or Meromorphic's 9/11 comparison
(Not able to watch this one yet, but looking forward to over the coming days)
Lmao. Last time, I promise!
Mero has a knack for making me feel really old. 😆
Wonderful video. Just a couple of things I wanted to add. Absolutely no disrespect to you, I just love this game so much lolz. (Spoiler territory below)
1.) Belgemine is a great example of a missable side character.
You are THAT bitch, Yuna, and don’t let them try to tell you otherwise.”
2.) This one requires multiple playthroughs, but with Operation Mi’hen, you can either save Luzzu/let Gatta die OR save Gatta/let Luzzu die.
*MY WYFE*
This was the first FF I really got to play and got into it. Such good memories lol
Man I remember when George Bush made his appearance in Final Fantasy X.
Just before he was about to jump into sin he said “it’s bushing time” to Tidus&co. Made me tear up so much.
I think of this moment every time I look at my bushes in the garden. I don't have a garden.
This was so well done and did my favorite FF game real good! You Rock, MM!
Sorting weapons and armor is a sub menu accessed through items
Poor guy suffered for no reason :(
This video is amazing, FFX and even FFX-2 will always have a very special place in my heart it was very ahead of it’s time
I'm happy you enjoyed it!
whats funny is that Final Fantasy X is my #1 game, not just RPG, but video game.
The coordinates are written in Al-Bhed. You have to decipher the Al-Bhed language to read the messages left on Al-Bhed ruins
I do want to say, about equipment, there is a way to sort them. You go to your inventory, go to the equipment tab and it gives you the ability to auto sort or manually sort.
Criminally under-viewed video. Enjoyed the fuck out of it, thank you for making it.
honestly this game deserves a full remake . tidus and yuna are pretty much artificial celebrities.. everyone knows them and i typically dont pay attention to males but tidus is a damn cool lookin dude, and yuna is just deadly beautiful
Hard agree
CGI Tidus is a fine lookin Asian surfer dude and I am all here for it (nextgen 4k and all)
Farming experience in that first fight with Sin and then shredding everyone but that last boss to paper was the most power I have ever had; I'm still chasing that high.
I am become death, destroyer of *Coeurls*
Ya i get it. Doing all of the capture arena and maxing the sphere grid takes ages. Its really hard to find motivation to do it again when you already have. Im sure the feeling of acomplishment after a second time isnt as great either
*When you think you finished the whole video, but he starts talking about the gameplay:* 💀💀
There's something really funny about saying the racist character is a man of "Blacks and Whites" 🤣
When talking about the special mechanics in some battles
you showed a clip from the Macalania battle with Seymour.
Once again an absolutely amazing look at a final fantasy game
You can definitely sort your equipment in FFX. I can see how someone could miss it though. In both the original and remaster from the menu screen, select item, press circle (or B), press right twice and select equipment, then you can either select manual or auto sort. Auto will separate weapons from shields and arrange them all by character type. The same can be done for items. I find it to be not just useful, but necessary
And that, as they say, is that.
1:14:49 About the overdrives, limit breaks based on health was exclusively an FF8 thing, Overdrives work similarly to limits and trances in FF7 and 9 respectively, in FF10's case it's more like FF7 and unlike FF9's trance(thank god)
the story is about Titus
i liked that you could craft pseudo ultimate weapons if you farm enough monster arena because i couldnt care less about playing blitzball or dodging lightning strikes
me watching countless hours of videos praising video games I already adore.
I remember playing blitzball for days on end. I would just go into the game and do that for an entire day. Looks like I’m gonna have to go back now 👀
Liquid water...
If you get a warm glass of pop at a restaurant Do you also ask them for more frozen water?
No, I ask for desublimated vapor.
@@Meromorphic lol
The fact it takes an hour just to recap the story shows how deep it is.
Every time I play through this I make him ask a million times, ride ze shoopuf?
Ha look at that. Interesting video, I'm actually wrappin up the last bit of monster arena stat maxing/dark aeons before I get the platinum.
I remember myself at Toys R Us pulling the slip to buy this and MGS2. I remeber I had $100 to spend and I blew it all on those games. Great times and no regrets
the biggest beef with FFX is not being able to skip cut scenes
This was excellent to watch. I loved this as much as I love FFX.
Wait, FF X already 20 years old? 😱
21 actually. It's old enough to drink. Just been 20 since I first played it
No it's not. Don't worry my dude, it's still 2006.

FFX was considered horribly outdated by that point.
As crazy as the jump from 90s media technology to early 2000s was, the jump from early 2000s to mid 2000s was absolutely insane.
By 2006 we had blu ray technology.
I just realized the way the faces are rendered in the original copy of the game, look better than the remaster
This game is nostalgic for me because it was the last game I was able to play. They moved on to hack n slash dynamics after this (apart from a few remakes and handheld exclusives)
You the goat keep this game alive
Cool video bro
My favorite final fantasy game to this day.
You hate his (Seymour's) hair?! I still dont understand his nipple-buttons !!!
Oh Good god ……what a great summary of THIS time !!!!!!! ❤❤❤❤ #Nostalgie 🎉
You just need to play 9. You really do. Like really really do. It's seena real rise in popularity over the last few years and is deserving of all the love. Would love to see a review from someone playing it for the first time.
