Here's something on that subject to consider. If you convert the actual dimensions of the Akagi into 1/35 scale, the full ship would be approximately 24.4 feet long by 3 feet wide. There's already someone who built a 1/48 scale USS Tennessee fully detailed R/C [12 feet long] with a dock and a tug, who sails it around on a small pond. [Check out the TH-cam video; very impressive!] It would be one hell of a project, but I expect that somebody out there with the necessary covered workspace, time, resources, knowledge, and patience, is seriously contemplating a 1/35 Akagi. There are people who build massive model train sets in sections, then connect them together when they display them in different locations. One 8-foot section would fit in the back of a truck; three trips and the Akagi would be all there. I pity the IPMS chapter that would have to make space for THAT entry at their annual show. But I would not be surprised if there is a TH-cam video in a year or two of a 1/35 carrier or battleship. I would expect it to be waterline, but find someone who has a large country property with a shallow natural or man-made pond on it, in addition to all the other requirements above, and we'll all be watching "Bass fishing on my pond while Akagi prowls above!"
I already pre-ordered the Akagi Deck + B5N Kate set. Waiting for Border Models to release the IJN Carrier Crew soon. 😊 I only saw CAD views of the model online. Thank you Andy for showing us the actual parts. The island part of carrier deck is truly massive. Can't wait to build! 😊

Very impressive kit to say the least. I think the downfall is the scale once completed. I for one as for many others is the space it would it take up. Separate hatch doors and a basic interior to give you a start to detail up would have been nice, especially the bridge it's self. Good kit if you enter shows where you could display their ongoing line of 1/35 aircraft kits. Thanks for the video Andy !
I'm sure there are modelers that can make it happen for them but I haven't been enjoying that a lot of the products Andy has been showcasing lately have been larger scale kits.
so cool! so exited! i hope border will also produce a 1/35 a6m2 zero and 1/35 d3a val so you can rotate on occasion between the 3 planes on the akagi deck, lets all hope.
I really like all the 1/16 armor and these 1/32 and 1/35 aircraft, but just don't have the room. Some modelers don't realize how big some of these things are. I went to hanging airplanes up years ago so I could use shelf space for land models.

Wow, what awesome kits, the details on both of them are really incredible. Border Models has done a really top job here. I don't build airplane models, but I'll really make a start with the "Kate", a wonderfully beautiful kit. Thanks for your video, very interesting Great Job 👍👏👌
Maybe we will see a crew set from the aftermarket people. Needed if you wanted a diorama of it attacking low over water or running up on carrier deck. Looks good and i will be getting this one. Thanks Andy.
Could you make a video on the Tamiya F-4 C/D Phantom II 1/32 scale? I just got that kit for Christmas and your videos are the most helpful I find on TH-cam for scale kits and how to assemble and paint them well!
I have preordered the takoms 1/72 akagi and i hope i will have space for it. But its shame takon dont have anything supporting the kit. Only hasegawa have 1/72 zero that was on akagi during Pearl Harbor and i still dont have figures. Border have figures and a whole plane with full details.
The aircraft looks very nice with buckets of detail. The Flightdeck... Moulded on pipes and trunks in that scale!? I would have thought that all the "loose" bits would have been just that. Separate parts...
Hope to see flight deck crew in the future as well as the sand bags shown on the box art, and yes a Zero would be nice as well, get better Andy you sound kind of rough.
Looks good. Glad I bought the Airfix B-17G, I figured with Xmas and Masters of the Air there would be a spike in their demand. Any news on the Airfix Ferret?
Hey Andy, I’m anxiously awaiting word on Das Werks 9 ton Vomag (bus chassis) with 88 cm. Flak. Have preordered back in November and wondering have you heard anything on it’s arrival yet. Not patient enough, Rick.

I am desperate to find one if possible, look forward to hearing any info you can uncover for me, cheers, mike.
Size difference between 1/32 and 1/35 Kate is how much in mm? H, W, L, I’d love to do an entire pacific theater shelf and I’m thinking the size difference is tolerable.
I was hoping the price would be an "excuse" to avoid adding this big dual kit to my stash. Alas, the price IMO is excellent. Time to open up more space in a closet somewhere 😛
The carrier deck and Kate is a cool kit! What a time to be a modeler!
U got the deck with bridge & plane, but unfortunately none of the japanese model manufacturers have any 1-35 navy crews!
@@sebastian-FX357Z1 Border is coming out with an 8 piece IJN crew figure set to accompany this dual kit soon! 🤩
I personally think carrier decks/towers would make more sense in 1/48. But that's just my preference.
That's going to take up a lot of real estate, even in 1/48 which I would prefer.

Dangerous kit, I might end up scratchbuilding rest of the deck by accident :)

I would imagine Border will come out with an add-on for the island mattresses. Surprising they were not included considering the kit box art.
Should I wait and see? Or should I made them out of Air Dry Clay, like other sandbags?
I believe the 1/72 scale version has them

Always wanted a 1:32 Kate !!
Andy congrats on a great year. Wishing you and your family a great Christmas 🎄
Andy, would you consider making your display cases for 1/48 airplanes and next-level 1/32 scale airplanes. Love the hinged latch
Two really great kits Andy.
Those aren't sandbags, its the soldiers futon mattresses hung up for shrapnel protection like sandbags...
Impressive Andy
Wow!!!! You are the king pin of the Hobby !!!
Rock on !!
8 Figures Meow Available for Preorder on Andy’s site! 4 Crew, 2 Pilots, and 2 Officers are Only $53 American money. They look great.
Looks like a great combo kit!
Andy, maybe you could suggest to Border to do a USS Hornet with a B-25?
Now THAT’s a good idea!!! Some may say it would “Do little” for them, but I think it’s the cat’s meow!
I would have prefer a Essex carrier full bridge with at least 2 of the 5 inch guns turrets & deckload park with Hellcat fighters with folded wings.

Magnificent, just wish I had room for them both. Even at 1/72 I would hard pushed for space.
Incredible detail! Beautiful kit!
I think the most complicated part of this would be the Kate. Despite its size, I bet the carrier model goes together relatively quickly.
Nice Merry Christmas to all here
20:02 US Navy vet here Andy :) Those parts look to be stanchions (railings) for around the flight deck :)
Wow, a big model and beautiful
Happy Holiday Andy, wishing you the best! Love your store and your videos!
I had reservations about aircraft in 1/35 scale but after seeing the Kate I have changed my mind. This is must build model.
Be nice if this was part 1 of the complete carrier released over (let's say) 4 years. I'd buy it after clearing out 1 of my bedrooms.
Very impressive.
Hope to see flight deck crew in the future as well as the sand bags shown on the box art, and yes a Zero would be nice as well, get better Andy you sound kind of rough.
Nice to know there are 1/35 scale aircraft out there
Gosh what a magnificent model to make! I'm impressed and a Zero is equally very welcome👍👍👍! I wish you a merry Xmas with your family
Yeah Hellcat+ carrie bridge might be a perfect model set. What I´d like to see in 1:35 is the AH-1H/J skyraider.
That looks like a very detailed kit, let's hope they do release one of a US ship👍👍
Great kits, but I like others think the futon splinter/blast bags should have been provided. The 1/72 Takom Akagi includes them.
Merry Christmas Andy.
Will there be a Tiger II(1/16) model kit soon?
This is so crisp casting, Forge world could learn something there
Oh this was cruel, I was going to skip this one due to size, but 5 minutes in and I pulled the trigger on the pre-order
Awesome, now they need to do the same section for the old Yorktown, Enterprise, Hornet, etc and a British carrier.
有難う!!!相当に良さげなキットですね。97艦攻は注文済みですが。艦橋も捨てがたいですね。
Andy, you have got to do a video build of that Akagi deck and island at some point!
Andy, you've got to take care of that throat !
Andy's been in the warehouse, yelling at his elves: "Come on boys, let's ship some toys!"
1/35 Kate ? Wow sign me up dude ! 😎
Wow, cool review of two incredible kits. The ONLY negative I can think of is the lack of Japanese figures in 1/35.
Do the kits come with suggested colour choice's. The big deck will be very hard to get right.
formidable
So when will you produce more build videos I'm missing them, they are really helpful and informative?????
I'm hoping for a Lex or a Yorktown, then take my money!

EDIT: A 6’ tall figure in 1/32 is 5.6cm tall and in 1/35 is 5.1cm for a difference of 5mm. Or, 6’ tall would be 5’6” tall. Approximately.
So, a B5N2 Kate would be 10mm (3/8”) Height, 20mm (13/16”) Wing Span, 15mm (5/8”) Length difference. Approximately. I could live with that.
@@catlady8324 Sorry, but you got your units wrong! 6' in 1/32 is 57.15mm, and in 1/35 is 52.25mm. You confused it with centimeters (cm).
