  • We shot this a long time ago, and unfortunately we lost the drive and the main camera. What I have pieced together is the footage from the back up cameras. It is crude technically at times, but you can't help but love this women after you watch it.

Phyllis was NOT ugly! I feel such sadness that she felt that way as a child.

That part about assessing the audience while you’re performing is amazing. I got to see Phyllis perform every night when I worked at a summer theatre. Each performance was a little different. Some jokes were dropped, some added. Her delivery was “shotgun” - one joke after another in rapid succession building until the audience was whipped up into a frothy state of hysterical laughter. But if she was off by one milli-second, you could feel the high energy lower a bit, get a little quieter, and it would take her 3 or 4 jokes to get them back up to their former pitch of laughter. But she always did it. Astonishing!

Saw her once performed 22 minutes at Rascals Comedy in West Orange NJ but it was like 300 jokes in shotgun fashion.

@@tomwestfld392 Yes, exactly, that’s how she worked. Her ability to “read” her audience, I believe, determined which of the many jokes she would use during a particular performance. It’s an amazing ability!

not kidding. I'm 57 too. Always liked her in my youth you know someone you noticed on TV. probably 20 years went by and I never thought about her. I was off work on medical leave in 2012 I never sleep during the afternoon but afternoon I crashed on the couch drifted off as I awoke I felt a presence someone very very familiar I knew it was a older woman diva character humorous but I couldn't place who it was then I decided it was my aunt Blanche my mom's best friend she was a spinster character of that vintage she always picked on me but loves me I realized it wasn't Blanche I lay there in a semi slumber for several minutes frustrated I couldn't figure out who it was and then it came to me like I woooosh. it was like a rush my eyes still weren't open but popped up from the couch eyes wide open screaming to myself it was Phyllis Diller. shook my head and laughed got up and started doing something and it stuck with me and I had to look her up online I thought to myself she even still alive sure enough I looked her up Phyllis Diller was still alive she was 95 years old I thought it's not something. just so you know there was no radio or anything else on. the next day or the day after I saw on the news where she had died I double checked the date it was the day after I had this experience. tell me there are not forces at work. Loved her too even more after that. Will never forget that experience

Rozanne call her Goddess of Comedy-I should be so lucky to live up to her clean standard- they speak of dark and death as funny???.Her hello disarms the audience before they shoot her..nothing kills a meal more than food critic screwing their face up.

Contrary to what both Phyllis & Roseanne said - death is NO joke. Folks! And the choice as to where we go after that event is very important. There are only two destinations to choose from - make your choice wisely, please!
