Nine Sols Backer Alpha Demo (No Commentary)

Nine Sols was the super successfully crowdfunded game that was announced early this year. While the main demo is still widely available, those that backed at a higher tier got access to this special first alpha look, introducing a new area and a brand new mini boss fight. The combat and movement feel so good, and I am READY to dive into the lore of this game, one of my most anticipated right up there with Silksong and Crowsworn.

I'm REEEEEALLY excited for this game. Ever since the steam demo launched I was delighted to play it, it's a really unique gameplay, with cool enemies, interesting characters and dialogue, amazing soundtracks and the visuals just look incredible. Also I loved that they basically introduced an official speedrunning boss for those that finished the demo, with global rankings and a decent challenge completely for fun. I was so surprised and amazed by it that I started speedrunning and improving on the fight, and got 500th global in the first few days. It was my first experience in speedrunning, and it was awesome to talk with content creators speedrunning so we could share strategies and discoveries, all this for a simple demo. I've been yearning for this game to launch ever since, and my love for it is already peaking just from seing these test videos, I'm sure this game will be a masterpiece.

I think there should be some invincibility frames on that chi explosion. It should be a reward for precise blocking, but you took so many hits while trying to use it.

there is a public demo on steam, the intro is meant to be boring until the big twist. I was instantly hooked on the lore and gameplay after that

I was expecting this to piss me off like Crowsworn or Bō, which just directly copy Hollow Knight, but this doesn't seem to be like that. It looks a lot more like Castlevania in how it plays, slower with actual combat animations without pogo-ing all over the place. Interesting. The hack mechanic looks unique too. The "Ancient Chinese Cyberpunk" theme is actually getting used in any capacity for the sake of gameplay, which is more than Bō or Crowsworn can say.

Im so exited for this game, other then maybe the Ori games this is one of the only Metroidvanias I've seen that really seems to match the art quality of Hollow Knight. Don't get me wrong there have been a lot with pretty art but something about HK always just feels a cut above, it's just so seamless and cohesive. And from what I played in the demo the combat is also just as tight and well-tuned. Yet the setting and combat are unique enough that it doesn't feel like a copycat.
I know parrying was technically a thing in HK too but it's super exciting to see the mechanic given more focus in a game like this.
