This is one of those songs that you could have a million different verses too and still be singing it all the way through. A different instrument soloing throughout.
Come gather 'round people Wherever you roam And admit that the waters Around you have grown And accept it that soon You'll be drenched to the bone. If your time to you Is worth savin' Then you better start swimmin' Or you'll sink like a stone For the times they are a-changin'. Come writers and critics Who prophesize with your pen And keep your eyes wide The chance won't come again And don't speak too soon For the wheel's still in spin And there's no tellin' who That it's namin'. For the loser now Will be later to win For the times they are a-changin'. Come senators, congressmen Please heed the call Don't stand in the doorway Don't block up the hall For he that gets hurt Will be he who has stalled There's a battle outside And it is ragin'. It'll soon shake your windows And rattle your walls For the times they are a-changin'. Come mothers and fathers Throughout the land And don't criticize What you can't understand Your sons and your daughters Are beyond your command Your old road is Rapidly agin'. Please get out of the new one If you can't lend your hand For the times they are a-changin'. The line it is drawn The curse it is cast The slow one now Will later be fast As the present now Will later be past The order is Rapidly fadin'. And the first one now Will later be last For the times they are a-changin'.
What a great performance! So many versions around which sound like funeral marches. But this song needs Dylan's confident voice. It embraces change, and is a warning to those not stepping aside!
To be honest, when ever there is a song about things that ain't right and a propethy of those things changing (this and Eve of Destruction for example) I get a bit of a sceptical when someone says it aged well. I mean, the things were bad 60 years ago and still, we sing them now. As if nothing had happened or as if this situation was somehow dramatically different from the rest of our human history. I agree that Dylan's message of hope is always relevant, but I wouldn't take "the change" as granted as this song manifestos. Hehe, didn't wanted to be a cynic but I've thought about this for a while to be honest :/
@@sesaarinen Fair enough man. And, honestly, the good things about songs like this is how universally applicable they are regardless of the times we find ourselves in.
It makes my heart infinitely happy to check in here on the day after Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson has been confirmed to the Supreme Court. I've been singing this song since it first came out and this is just perfect. If oldsters like me and youngsters like you keep singing together, we'll keep the changes coming. Thank you for feeding my Hope.

0:06 I love the fact that the Horn matched the key that they need to know. Also this is a nice 6/8 song. I could listen to the WGU Commercial and they also do a good job. I would use this for a choir. I think having a lot of people sounds good. Times are always changing. We never really think about it because friends can come and go and family can even change. I personally think about this song if I lose a friend. The times are changing
I love this on so many levels. Sticking it to the orange monster is awesome enough but, as a boomer, Dylan lover, I'm always thrilled to find young people who appreciate the master. Fight on, guys. Thanks

Great cover. But I must mention one thing. Many people in the audience were holding signs like “Resist”, etc. Good for them! But remember to resist (or at least question) ALL authority. Don’t give the leaders on your side a pass.

Met some career Army serviceman on the USS Midway yesterday and we talked a bit of politics. As a J6 Stop the Steal participant, I still found myself saying that I would have fought for the VietCong and strangely this serviceman gave me a thumbs up. The times, indeed, are changing..

I'm a tough cookie, there's only half a dozen songs that always move me to tears, and this is one of them. Great performance!
I have chills and I am crying , this is amazing and still valid two years later 💕
It's valid sixty years after it was written.
Its always valid
Sadly
Valid since 1964...keep singing. We need this.

This song is from '63, when real protest and change was needed. Not a bunch of dirty hippies looking for a reason to stomp their feet and smoke grass.
