Hey Matt odd question I’m just testing a vx but realized I don’t have a tape on hand. Do the peaking levels only show with a tape inserted. I know I’ve seen them while using this exact camera but got kinda worried as they aren’t appearing without a tape inserted

Tip - at 5:24 Screw was stuck and could not lift up the panel. Solved- Closed the Drawer inserted the ribbon then opened the draw and was able to insert the ribbon further then closed draw and it caught.
Hey Bro, I bought a VX1000 on eBay - looks in fantastic shape but the viewfinder and recorded image is black and white. Have you ever seen that before?
hey thanks for this guide! my vx1000 mic works but not 100%, it sort of winces and glitches a bit in the clips upon being played back. would you know if this is this a ribbon cable issue or loose connection? will probably just try this method anyways tho
Hey it will more than likely be a tear in the cable so when it flexes the connection will break, 99% sure you will need to replace the cable and all should be fine
hey mate, my vx sound is working but here and there sound is getting really low (disappearing) but will come back after a sec do you think its the ribbon cable ? cheers!
i have only worked with 1000 but the mics where amazing on the 1000 so dont think they would of changed much for the 2000. open her up and have a look i would say!
hey my vx records sound but picks up a faint white noise through out all the footy in the background. what do you think the problem is?? also I don't think my vx record level bar moves.
@@mattfirmin11 I have to try a fix the problem but it doesn’t really effect it. I tore down the mic handle and plugged in an external mic which still has the problem when doing so so I think I need to completely tear it down to find out what’s up
@@dethclik2002 yeah that doesn't sound good. You may have a problem in the mother board if the external mic was doing the same thing. Worth following this video just to make sure as this is a cheap easy fix. But if the ribbon cable isn't the problem you may have a big repair job on your hands
Bought the cable and did the replacement- sound showing that it is working, but when I watch the footage back on my on my capture cam there is still no sound, any ideas????

Well that may be a main board problem! if you still are having no luck with an external mic! i would recommend trying this fix as the part is super cheap and if it fails then you know its a main board problem you may have to send if off to get fixed, unless you have spare parts
+Translate Productions yes, I fixed it today though, I had to drill the screw out until the head of the screw came off. Thank you for replying I had no idea how to go about fixing this for a while. Anyone, If you ever have this problem get a drill and drill a hole into the screw until the head comes off, be careful not to drill farther into the camera though.
+Phineas Roebuck Nice one! i was going to suggest that as its the only way i know of getting threaded screws out but i have never tried it on a screw that small. pleased to hear you managed it tho dude!
Translate Productions thanks a lot for your support man! I tried tons of others things like using a rubber band and crazy glue and crap, but nothing worked. I'm pretty lucky with the whole situation, because my microphone ribbon cable didn't break it just slipped out! so no purchase was needed, thank god haha.

Ebay my dude! Only place to find them now days. Reccomend picking up a few as they tend to break a lot and are not so easy to get hold off!

Sounds like you may have a motherboard issue if its coming out black and white on the recorded footage.

Do you have to replace everything on the VX microphone? Or can you reassemble back with the same parts?
if its just the ribbon cable that is broken thats all you need to replace

More than likely there will be a crack and that's why it comes in and out!

You will have to try track down a new cable first, then the repair is easy the cables all fit in the same. The main problem will be locating the part

have you replaced the mic ribbon cable? if thats not working then you may have a main board problem which can be a fair bit more serious sadly
I have not replaced the ribbon yet
My mic has really bad noise, it sounds like wind is blowing on it hard at all times. Could replacing the ribbon fix this?
Might be a silly question but have you been adjusting the mic levels when filming?

@@mattfirmin11 so major breakthrough today lol. It only makes the noise when I have a tape in, trying to look it up but not finding much.

Video on fixing mic sag? The only other one seems like a temporary fix.
Charlie Simek put a piece of foam underneath it's also only temporary but will protect your vx's mic and make it look better. Foam is cheap too!

one of my my screws to get into the hot shoe is rusted and stripped completely i don't know what to do someone please help.
