this video has helped a lot getting me motivated and learning the form before i saw this i was throwing 110 and now im throwing 150-155 so thx for making this vid really gj
i threw 180's my sr. yr. of highschool and at the state meet i tore a tendon in my arm. i got surgery, and hope to get my arm back even stronger than it was
I just love this vid, getting hell of a rush by watching it, it crumbles in my body after throwing javelin, omg.. its so amazing feeling when ur doing good! and im one of the 5 best in my country on my age in javelin throwing... at the age of 14 .. i throw 45 meters the record is 50meters o.o
@mar504 Every throw is different. It's an incredible journey from just learning to be coming a master; not to mention the average time it takes to master a throwing event is 6+ years. You have no idea how much skill it takes to throw like these guys.
I think when Thorkildsen turns his head its mainly because he drops his hips so quickly and explosively, not because he's actually looking down when throwing.
If you watch their feet that is key... and how fast they are going... flexibility is a big deal it makes it so you can go as fast as they are going and still have complete control of your body... Strength will only take you so far I throw right around 180 maybe a bit further and I've started working with one of my heroes so I hope to jump up to about 200 in the next couple weeks
@87PowerMan Yeah, it is, about an hour or so away. Its amazing how sharp the change is from winter to spring in GA, first track meet was freezing cold, about 5th one it was blistering hot
well than you must be really good then! & I ended up throwing a 37m at competition and ended up 3rd place, moving on to the next step. I'll keep working, because javelin is so fun :)
damn i wish i can throw the jav like but i can't plant on my left no more cuz i messed up my knee so i just stick to discus and hammer now props on a very good video
wow the guy at the beginning really whips them, and my coach never taught me to look away from it as soon as i let it go because these guys put their heads down, is that correct?
@87PowerMan Ha, every throwing sport is harder than it looks, I stick to discus. It really just comes down to if youre a natural and dedicated. Plain and simple.
great video. i threw 160's until a couple months ago at a meet, i went to plant and completly tore my a.c.l. and that was the end of my season. i got surgery and am currently in therapy. it sucks. i wish i finished the season out.
you are right! i wrecked my shoulder throwing using strength, tore a tendon after a few years of incorrect technique, the strength got me 3 Queensland State titles and represented Australia twice, but my shoulder was stuffed at 15. Then Mr Technique Jarrod Bannister came along and smashed teh Australian record and was in 2008 Olympic final! (Well done to him)
Its actually easier than most people think, just keep hand as back as long as possible until your fron leg comes to ground and keep that leg as a block so all force from your run goes to the javelin. I myself throw only 55m but i just started training.
im 17 years old and throw javelin for my high school. does anyone know what are the "best" kinds of stretches before you throw? help would be greatly appreciated
ok so i do track the average is about 120's at my school. and yes highscool is 800 grams and i tharow about 210 and i am a freshman... keep it up your doing good
Azreal, You are right, 45 is good for shot put, discus, and hammer but javelin is aerodynamic and therefore will gain sufficient lift at 33 and to achieve 45 degrees you must lean back a lot which will make the time between each foot lands on the xover therefore reducing distance, or dropping your arm, which then will make round arm and reduce the distance again. Shot and Hammers are not aerodynamic and therefore do not provide their own lift. for example, do you see an aeroplane taking off
@11RRobbins try not to bend your arm when you throw and keep focused on a high level surface, thats what my coach tells me. ive seen a guys through 170 ft. just cause they threw right through the point.
alright thanks! I threw 31.5m today, which was my best so far, but I was using a senior javelin ( I think it's 800g ) instead of a junior one which I should be using ( 600g I believe ).
CONTINUATION at 45%? no, but for a cannonball to achieve max distance it must be shot at 45 degrees. (for the aeroplane, the thrower are the engines, and for the cannonball the gunpowder is the thrower. Hope this explains it all! :) morgan
thanks for posting, this is exactly what I was looking for in a javelin video. I'm learning myself and it helps to see how the pros do it.
great compilation of top throws..especially those shots from side are great.Looks like the throwers explode(they are so fast)
Great video. I just started the jav and it is really helpful to watch the form of some of these guys.
Awesome! I've thrown javelin and have trouble getting everything behind it. These guys have amazing strong, natural power-releases
Fantastic compilation, and nice music. Great work.
This was the first javelin video I ever watched when I was younger.
+Andy White Haha same here. Still dont like the music haha.
This was the first javelin video I've ever seen, now :)

Wassup after 13 long years
My favorite throw is at 0:55 the run-up is very light and effortless.
the guy with the tie-died speedsuit is a beast! lol
This video gives me inspiration to keep on training and throwing although I had so much injury problems! I loveee javelin!!! =D
Be careful dude!! 🤗
It looks like elegance and power, together!~
Great stuff!

I just love this vid, getting hell of a rush by watching it, it crumbles in my body after throwing javelin, omg.. its so amazing feeling when ur doing good! and im one of the 5 best in my country on my age in javelin throwing... at the age of 14 .. i throw 45 meters the record is 50meters o.o
i like how all the discus shotput hammer and javelin throws have different body structure.
@mar504 Every throw is different. It's an incredible journey from just learning to be coming a master; not to mention the average time it takes to master a throwing event is 6+ years. You have no idea how much skill it takes to throw like these guys.

looved it! thanks! jav is the best thing ever!great sport.
Love andreas thorkildsen thanks for posting!
This video gives me so much inspiration thanks!
Thorkildsen's ancestors definitely ruined some people with the Viking throwing spear
das beste ist den hintergrund ab 4:30, Koestrizer, jawohl!

Good Video.I love the Jav!

I miss throwing the Jav. I was half decent throwing 57.5m my first year and 58.1m (174ft 4in) in 12th grade.
wow the guy at the beginning really whips them, and my coach never taught me to look away from it as soon as i let it go because these guys put their heads down, is that correct?
@87PowerMan Ha, every throwing sport is harder than it looks, I stick to discus. It really just comes down to if youre a natural and dedicated. Plain and simple.
Ah, good to know ^^ I think it's amazing. It's inspiring when people can do it...
dont be down mate, if you don't train on javelin trowing it's pretty good to trow 32m ;) Hard technique
that's about what I got when I was in high school. But I had the unfortunate luck of tearing a muscle in my shoulder and now I can't throw again.
Nice video, but music makes me feel like javelin ended up in my head.
3:06 hahahaha
great video. i threw 160's until a couple months ago at a meet, i went to plant and completly tore my a.c.l. and that was the end of my season. i got surgery and am currently in therapy. it sucks. i wish i finished the season out.
Radiohead. Off of the 'Kid A' album but I can't remember the song title. :)

love this song
@myskateboard16 , 64 javelin 52 discus. I dont think it would be a problem. ASU, team reebok.
good luck to u
I wish doing Jav... I loved doing it but I hurt my arm so I can't throw the same anymore. The farthest I ever threw was 189.8ft
Wow what state are you from? I throw 168' as a sophmore in HS and I need about 15 more feet to qualify for my state relays.
hes from 1982
desembodic is completely right. Throwing for strength will blow your arm out. It's all about the flexibility and explosive power.
Tero is almost always tripping when he's throwing.
Its actually easier than most people think, just keep hand as back as long as possible until your fron leg comes to ground and keep that leg as a block so all force from your run goes to the javelin. I myself throw only 55m but i just started training.

@11RRobbins yeah.... I have no idea how you guys do it. But congratz, compared to my 166, i shake your hand.
thats how you throw a giant toothpicks
awesome jav vid
1:20 looks like a rocket with the smoke coming out
ok so i do track the average is about 120's at my school. and yes highscool is 800 grams and i tharow about 210 and i am a freshman...
keep it up your doing good
Sup after 13 years
Best Javelin video on youtube...except the javelin missile ones..but lets face it..they're kind of cheating.
Azreal,

@thinkinfresh The song is called Idioteque by Radiohead.
Jan Zelezny is a bad ass!
i used to be a javelin thrower but then i took an javelin trough the knee
I believe that is very good
Bravo!
3:17 Vladimis Vasilevskis' Hairstyle Looks A Little Goofy, But 90.73 is just amazing. I think his finess was on point.
Yard and meter is very similar, so it's like 41meters
WOAH amazing music. can anyone please please please tell me who did the music? pleassseeee!
how far do you reach? And how old are you. And how heavy is your javelin?
The 2.02 is Tero Pitkämäki, the worlds best javelin thrower. If hes ok he will get the olympic gold in javelin in Beijing.
my son is 10 born on 16.7.97 he can throw 28.12m got big hopes for him!!
@Anthony7433 he will break everything!
@tylerneihoff1 yeah bro, im on the north georgia track team, up in Dahlonega, u?
alright thanks! I threw 31.5m today, which was my best so far, but I was using a senior javelin ( I think it's 800g ) instead of a junior one which I should be using ( 600g I believe ).
@myskateboard16 , lol. never said i did, and it doesn't mean you know any more than me either. silly convo
i had a track meet today and my longest jav. throw was 38 6 inches.
CONTINUATION

Less throwing, more hitting the ground.
