i am having a hard time justifying a NAS in my home. It's just me but I do have a lot of need for storage. a cloud solution might make more sense in the long run. I like your finder level organization. Setting up templates is def key! I use to like to keep outputs with each project, but for my youtube channel(different account) I like to keep the outputs at the root level, so that when I archive each project, the final output to my older videos are still available to use in new projects. I like to call back on older videos all the time(I have a cooking channel) but as you said, each creator will have different needs. like you, I also keep a "global assets" folder with the things I use over and over again(music, sfx, etc) I keep that in the root as well so it's available in any new project I am working on.
Dude I love it. Whatever your process is you just need to have one. Love the output idea. I need to keep a folder of all my exported TH-cam projects and maybe even exported b roll sequences from projects because I find myself often going back on drives just for one b roll clip from a large project. Thanks for the comment man! Glad you found it helpful.
Thanks for sharing your workflow, Jacob. Much appreciated. I'm new to TH-cam and I'm glad you mentioned that sometimes a TH-cam video doesn't need all the folders. I was feeling like I was doing something wrong! LOL Do you have any recommendations for the HDD drives you mentioned? I'm guessing they are external? Sorry for the dumb questions. :)
Thanks man! Yeah for sure don't need all the folders for a single TH-cam video. And I highly recommend Western Digital Elements drives, I have 3 of them now and they should go on a fairly good sale either now or pretty soon with Black Friday coming up!
@@filmdudejacob Thanks again for taking the time to answer! :) And yes, waiting for Black Friday may be just the thing to do. New subscriber! Oh...and silly question: do you just connect the HDD when you need to back up? I'm not sure how to connect three at once. I'm guessing it's just one at a time. :)
Hey man you bet! I use a docking station and have all of them plugged in. The docking station gives me more USB C and USB A ports. But when I'm not backing up I unplug them so I'm not constantly running the disks of the HDDs. I think it's a Kensington docking station, compatible with MacBook Pro if you use Macs.
Great video Jacob! Organization can make life easier.
Thanks Paul! And for sure, what proper organization does is amazing.
Great tips man!
Thanks man glad you liked it!
