      I would love 50mm and 35mm primes, but the compromise would be having the 24-70mm and it gives me those focal lengths as well as 24mm for groups which is super useful. And serves double duty as a general purpose lens.
      But 24,35,50 mil primes are on my wish list. Already got so many lenses, need to pace myself.😆

      I vibe the 50mm and 85mm combo, it's not as much difference in focal length, but the 50mm is kinda like "focused environmental" and the 85mm is just the true portrait length. Also it's easier to accidentally get wonky face effects with the 35mm vs the 50mm.

  • @ERoossien
    @ERoossien 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    • @ERoossien
      @ERoossien ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@arieldavid20 not my fav range. 85 and 105 are just the sweet spot I think. If I do need more compression for some reason I'd throw on a 70-200 F2.8 between the 105 and 200mm range. Give me more freedom in the exact amount of compression vs either a 135mm or 200mm prime. For me a bg bokeh with 2.8 is more than enough. And if I want even more blur, there's photoshop.

    The 2 for me, after doing this for a couple years and trying a handful of things. I’m on my f/1.8 nifty fifty. Ol’ reliable. HOWEVER, i use it less and less and on some occasion don’t even take it with me. Because my f/4 24-105 is just giving me some terrific results. I also love moving around with only one lens. And I do mostly shoot portrait but if and when I can, I think I’ll upgrade the nifty to a 85 f/1.2. But the 24-105 is going to be a staple for me for a very long time

    For portraits, 24-70mm f/2.8 and 85mm f/1.2. If I had to add a third it be a 70-200mm.
    If I could only have one, it be an 85mm.
    And this is from practical experience because when starting out the 85mm f/1.2 was my only portrait lens and I could make do with just that. It is wide enough I can walk back and get a couples shot or get in close for a tight head shot. The extremely wide f/1.2 aperture allows for great background separation but not only that a gorgeous fall off of DOF that renders sharp eyes and the rest starts to fall out of focus. In my opinion any portraits kit should have some kind of 85mm prime in there, it is indispensable.
    And I would have to agree, a 35mm prime is SOOOO good as an environmental portrait lens. I can see why he loves it.

      @@PuReXtremeGamingBecause if the 35mm. That lens is the number choice for learning and sets you up to add the 85mm. Gee...isn't that what Ortiz said? There's a reason why he mentioned it. If you had to choose for a first all around lens, the 35mm. If you want to take pictures of just people close up, then 85mm. 50mm is kind of in between. Tbh, there's no right or wrong answer, but with a good 35mm like the GM f1.4, it covers every situation better than the 50mm.

    • @matrixate
      @matrixate 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@PuReXtremeGaming Sorry bro. Conveying all my thoughts in a sentence, can be a bit challenging. What my reply implied was that he used a 35mm and discovered that he needed a lens with tighter framing. It doesn't mean he's a better photographer, it means that he was able to discern from his style of shooting that he typically goes tighter. You see...he couldn't have done that with a 50mm in smaller places, but he could with a 35mm. That's usually the case with everyone that gets a 50mm first...they find that they want tighter shots. However, people that go with a 50mm lens as their first lens typically find they need a wider lens. If that is the case, then the perfect combination is the 85mm. This is well-known to all professional photographer. Any pro photographer has a 35mm and an 85mm in their bag. Now, on the other hand, a 50mm marries up with a 24mm. The best option is to rent a 35mm and a 50mm. Seriously. If you really are into this, you'll make the small investment because a good lens...is not cheap. I say, the 35mm is better because you can take wider shots in small places. You can't do that with a 50mm. A 35 covers the 50mm field of view. The 50mm doesn't. The 35mm is more forgiving for shakiness. The 50mm is just a little more demanding of steadiness. This is especially true when filming video. Ok...that should be enough now. Any more information, I'll have to bill you.

    As a studio portrait photographer Nikkor 105mm, similar to the 85mm but just a little better in every way and much lighter than the Sigma 105mm and Voigtlander 58mm f/1.4 Nokton. Not as soft wide open as the Nikkor 58mm f/1.4G or as expensive as Nikkor 58mm f/1.2 Noct. It isn't perfect but it just works. Also bonus, it is a great lens to adapt to APSC.

    24/35 and an 85. I find those 2 focal lengths cover my favourite looks really well

    That’s a dope choice. I’d say 50mm but you just killed the game with the two option.

    50mm 1.2 for video and 24mm 1.4 especially for video shooting indoors and tight spaces also with sony focus breathing compensation it becomes close to a 30mm

    I have a 85mm f1.2 (50mm 1.2 manual lens + 300$ 1.7X teleconverter (on APS - C)), it makes a halio style bokeh with a little vignette, but its perfect for me, I wouldn't use any other lens, Its extremely good, I can highly recommand!

    Heck...I also use 35mm and 85mm only for weddings! The other lens Inuse is a 100mm macro for rings and also carry Sony's 55mm in case that the reception is in a small place. But the 35/85 combo is the best!

    35mm and 70-200 f2.8 gm 2. It’s the god tier of the zooms. I’ve had the canon, Nikon (dslr days) and the gm1. The gm 2 is crazy good

    I am a Nikon Z shooter, but the lenses I always go toward based on the situation:
    All Around: 27-70 & 70-200 2.8
    Portraits: 35mm & 85mm 1.8
    I can't live without these.
    Awesome picks you to have there Manny!

    Been watching your videos since I switched over to the Sony family. After watching your reviews I picked up the 85mm and as of last month I finally got the 35mm. No regrets, I love them both. Would recommend 10/10

    I agree … lovely focal lengths although I also adore the work of Saul Leiter he did legendary work with telephotos perhaps 135mm or 150mm….

    Same, but 1.8 is good enough for me. At least for the 85mm. 35 great all rounder as I like travelling. 85 great for creative shots where you really have to select your subject, but you can still include selected background details
