*Great lightweight shelter. **enjoyable.fishing** recommend it’s love how it blocks the light from outside. It was a pain to open the first time but now that it is broke in goes up easy..*
I like how you are considerate of others - levelling the snow bumps, picking up garbage and encouraging the use of carbon monoxide detectors. The world needs more good dudes like you.
Great video! I'm looking to do an overnighter this season. This video definitely helped me out. Your setup was clean and organized. I wouldn't say this video was boring at all. It was very informative and helpful. If you catch fish that's a bonus. All of us anglers have had our slow days so we can appreciate the work you put into it. You carried the video very well explaining everything. It does look like a lot of work. Tight lines!
Great video. Look just some advice. The Mr. Heater Buddy Series are Indoor Safe. Says it right on the front of the box (imagine how many lawyers had to sign on of that one). CO is from incomplete combustion. There are so many videos out there that have done tests on these heaters that prove this. But with that said, I take a CO detector mostly for other people to give them a sense of safety. Now it does have a low O2 sensor on it, that will go out at approximately 16% O2 in the air (21% is normal atmosphere) so well before Hypoxia sets in. They put a lot of safety features in these heaters and when you say take 5 CO2 detectors I seriously scratch my head. There are a lot of misconceptions about these heaters and want to dispel the myths about this very safe heater that Mr. Heater has put on the market.
Yes that definitely can be true. As long as the heater and the sensors are all operating in there should be no issue hence the reason why I use them and I find them safe. But because there has been some deaths due to carbon monoxide poisoning in tents there’s absolutely no harm in being overly cautious when sleeping with a propane source. Things can fail and it’s a cheap alternative. I am by no means a scientist but have done a lot of research and came up with using a buddy heater for my overnights.
When ever we set up the shack we stack slush or snow there was no snow here so would drill a bunch of half holes to get ice shavings and pack it around the edge of the shack keeps all the heat in no wind gets in and holds the shack solid in windy times
Very neat setup👍. Honestly, I wouldn't spend my precious night at Shoal lakes for yellow perch and little jack, those Shoals are dead😅. I would rather switching to Reynolds Ponds for trophy trout🤣
Yup thats in the books. I just went there for early season to get it off the list ha ha. We did 14 weekend on the Ice last year so I have a lot of places to go yet.
I live in Florida on the Gulf of Mexico, so watching these videos are just so entertaining and cool to me!!! My brother was an avid fisherman… I haven’t been fishing since he passed on last year 😢 I miss him so much, so watching these videos just make me feel closer to him. That’s the best, most brilliant set up I’ve seen by the way!!! Idk why some don’t have a floor mat like you, it just seems like it would be so cold. I’m not sure how you’re not wearing gloves 😳🥶 I’m so thankful I found your channel, new subscriber here!!!
What a great treat this video is! So glad I stumbled across your channel. You do a great job of talking through what you are doing but not to the point that bores us more experienced on-ice campers. Subbed. Good luck this season and stay safe!
Hello guys... Exciting video... Great setup. REF Flooring: I've been ice camping for lot of years now and one thing I learned early on was to leave area immediately around holes free of flooring. I found that for most part this allows melt water and/or overpressure to remain near holes or simply to flow under the flooring. Different story with permanent elevated shanties. I've had few floods in my setup.
yeah with early ice its more of an issue. We definitely dont have that issue when there is snow on the ice as that acts like a weeping buffer. Im sure ill have another vid in the later year to show ha ha. Thats awesome that your an overnighter as well. rare breed I say.
@@ReelLifeWithMike it's nice mainly use it when I can drive out since a 100ah battery is like 100 lbs. I've camped on lake of the woods in -20f in my clam thermal 6 pack and have been toasty warm.
I bought my son a 105cc mini bike a couple years ago and it’s definitely coming on the ice with me this year when I do over nighters. Towing all of your fishing gear plus camping gear is such a pain in the ass. My walleye honey hole on Lake Erie is about 3/4 of a mile from the parking spot. I usually take my atv but that requires towing a trailer and I think it’ll be much easier to just throw the mini bike in the bed of the truck and go. It makes hole hopping so much easier also.
Hell Rights that’s a sweet setup! And like you said. At least you didn’t get skunked. Can’t always hammer them, and don’t blame you one bit for choosing a lake that you know has some good early ice. New subscriber here! Keep up the great work. 👍
I love how every one of these I watch everyone’s looking to have enough ice. And wearing hoodies. Meanwhile I’m up here in -40C hoping our 12” extension is going to make it through the ice.
It's like a space station. ANd the screen makes it kind of like a computer game. I would swap out the propan heater, it makes the air damp. You probably know this. A wood heater or getting a space heater that brings out the humudity would be better. Anyway, funny vid. Thanx.
ha ha thanks. I am definitely not up to their standards yet but working on it. I just do this for fun so I think its ok. I am planning on getting a separate mic to make sure my audio is a bit more consistent.
I live here in New York not tye city but in the southern end of ny and it gets fairly cold but nothing to crazy.. I have a question I’m hoping someone can answer…. I took a trip to the ADK and we slept in the car and it got to 17°f and the car was on before we went to sleep because we had to drive but by the time we woke up the battery was dead…. Is that normal in those kind of temps? Should I replace the battery? How can I prevent this from happening again? How do you prevent it in -°f temps.. and no nothing was pluged in or running (I’m investing in a ‘The Zuse’ from Uncharted Supply Co… that’s what started our car on this trip..)
Next time if you forget you spikes to anchor the shelter just cut two holes very close to each other and run the line in and up the other hole and anchor to that
Dude everything about your setup is looking real professional… except one thing … the propane heater. Propane combustion fumes are toxic .. CO Carbon Monoxide can give you headaches and much worse. Take some advice from me on this and use “Methyl Hydrate” … build a wooden box with a small metal 4 gallon pail and place two soup can inside of a coffee can .. and then put the coffee can inside the 4 gallon pail. Fill the soup cans with MH fluid and light it with a small torch. One full soup can will last about an hour and burns clean .. fumes are only Carbon “Dioxide” and water. Cover the can with a piece of wood and smother it to put it out. That way you can close the shanty up more and keep the wind out. Careful not to suffocate yourself if you close everything up .. O2 levels drop fast. I suppose it’s too difficult to sleep overnight with a MH heater. Personally I use a generator with electric space heater because my shanty is a homemade trailer. Just a suggestion. Take care and be safe.
Totally understand. In the years of doing this I have yet to get a reading with the co detector. I actually used my small tent and closed it completely and let the heater run on full for the entire tank approx 32 hours. And no reading. The buddy flex on the other hand got a reading after 10 hours and I will not use that as it does not burn as clean as a catalytic style burner. I am waiting to see how the diesel heaters work but yeah. We are as safe as we can be and have all of the vents open as well as one window. I do appreciate you spreading caution as you are correct that no matter how safe you are there is still a possibility of issues with CO. Eventually we will also be looking at a small wood burner as well
I’m new to the channel and love it!! I have learned that putting the heater up on an upside down crate helps a a ton with preventing the melting under the floors (I also use the foam puzzle pieces). Cant wait for more overnight content!

Yes it is so fun. Love the over nights. Lots of work doing the walk-out.
Professional guy with a professional setup. Was fun to watch.
Being OCD love the organized set up, Fishing was slow but a night of winter camping makes up the difference!
Ha ha I have to give credit to my wife for that. But when its all clean and neat it makes it easier to do what needs to be done when your out there.
Omg your setup is sick! Seriously. I’m gonna need a second job if I ever want a setup like that! 🤣👍
Lol thanks. It’s been a bit to get everything the way I want but it’s a breeze now.
