    Not only was he the ideal Jedi, but also perfectly displayed human qualities such as his difficulties in his attachments in the clone wars, showing how human he was while also being the ideal Jedi as you said. He perfectly knows what he has done and knows his flaws, and always tries to fix them, but also guides Luke to the best of his ability. Obi-wan Kenobi is the perfect Star Wars definition of a chad.

      I agree. And something I feel even I forget is that all of the Jedi we see at the forefront display all the same things.
      Anakin's "Unconditional Love" statement, the Jedi Apprentice Novels (I think are cannon), and glorious Clone Wars series are chock full of these kinds of life lessons. Shaak Ti, Yoda, and Plo treating the clones like ppl -while the Republic and Camino only cared about costs - made the Jedi outliers in the Galaxy. Obi Wan and Ahsoka struggle with attachment and know that doesn't mean separation but unity without clinging. Qui Gon and Obi wan (in JP Novels) have to learn trust and accepting that they aren't saints, and to accept others wisdom including from the Council.
      People seem to be overlooking other fantastic stuff around the Prequels that -in my personal opinion - were a good extension of what the originals wanted us to learn from these flawed good hearted beings

    One thing that made him an Ideal Jedi is that he's one of the only Jedi who recognized the dark parts within himself and did not shy away from acknowledging his own emotions and feelings, such as with Satine, but he accepted them and exercised self-control to make sure he was not consumed by them and that they would not cause him to fall to the Dark Side.

  • @williamcostigan91
    @williamcostigan91 3 ปีที่แล้ว +29

    Obi-Wan perfectly embodied two traits above all; Duty and Selflessness. A master who didn't want him because he couldn't see past his own pain, a student that didn't want him simply because he wasn't his master, three women he loved died in his arms, the first of which happened at only 13. The child that he raised that his instincts warned him about, killed the only family he had every known for the sake of his own. Finally left on the same world to watch over his failed pupils son all for the slim chance that this kid would save them. The fact that Kenobi never broke or fell speaks volumes of his strength of will.

    Obi-Wan attempted to reason with Anakin at least twice on Mustafar. By that point Anakin had slaughtered an unknown but high amount of Jedi including kids & teens, he had gone too far and frankly, a life sentence would be merciful at that point.

    • @samueldimmock694

    • @samueldimmock694
      @samueldimmock694 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@justchilling704 I guess I was mainly thinking of the time periods where most Star Wars media is set in, where there are so many major problems that you never get time off. During an era of stability, being a Jedi could get rather cushy, particularly if you weren't all that interested in doing the best job you could. But even then, the old Jedi Order, particularly in the time of the Prequels, was pretty restrictive: Jedi didn't own anything but their lightsabers, they were strongly encouraged to spend all their free time training and/or meditating, and they were deliberately placed in the worst trouble spots in the galaxy on a regular basis.
      The other thing was that, at least in Legends, the Dark Side of the Force acts as a cross between a mind-altering drug and a malevolent will, so Anakin could be considered less guilty (emphasis on less) due to use of illegal drugs or treatable criminal insanity, and thus get off with a lesser sentence of unending hard labor. Assuming of course that the people sentencing him understood the Force but were not a part of the Jedi Order; otherwise he would be either executed or welcomed back with open arms and even more open eyes. I don't pretend to understand either ethics or the Force well enough to know which of those is the best.

      @brosephbroman7564 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      He murdered his friends, colleagues, and children. Just to "maybe" save Padme and an unborn child. *After* Yoda told him to ignore the visions or they could come true. Which he was correct when he pursued his mother. Yes, a life sentence would be merciful.

    • @udonnauchegbu2018
      @udonnauchegbu2018 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@brosephbroman7564 I think the reason why he couldn't ignore them was because the last time he had a vision of someone's death it came true. His mother. It did feel to Anakin that he was boxed in and just had no way to deal with those feelings and no one who could truly relate. Then all of that exploded. Quite the tragedy, but in the end he made his choices whether they were willing or not.

    I think Obi-Wan is a really interesting character because, unlike Anakin, he wasn't born with an immense natural gift in the force. Obviously he had a gift but he came very close to never becoming a Jedi Padawan. His strength lies in his character.
    His character and personality allowed him to achieve the heights that he did. For a man who was riddled with personal insecurities, he's an excellent example of how the only obstacle preventing us from reaching the sky is ourselves.
    He probably represented the best of the Jedi when they were the most flawed. While I think he was definitely slow in fully realising the flaws and hypocrisy of the Jedi Order, I believe he still tried to act to show the best of the Order.

    Obi-Wan is by far my favorite Character in all of Star Wars. To me he is the most interesting, most caring, most human and most relatable Character the franchize has to offer. When young, he was, at heart, a brat with no special skills, abilities or talent. Neither was he a proclaimed chosen one or a battlehardened, special case Light/dark hybrid like windu, nor was he a one in a thousand years talent like yoda. He barely became a padawan to begin with and on top of that to someone who himself was somewhat of a rebell, who already had (at least going by legends and not by disney) a padawan that fell to the dark side. But he was the one to take all challenges you could think of, despite not knowing how and being thrown in it without any choice for himself. barely an adult, he took on the challenge to train the kid who was said to be the chosen one, even though the jedi order literally told him not to, just because he promised his mentor. he knew love and also was in love himself, but chose his path regardless unlike others (and by that choice shaped the course of the Star Wars history as we know it). He became a general, dispite not knowing anything about military. he bacame a jedi knight, dispite being hardly finished with his own training. he became a master, despite doing all this crazy stuff simultaniously. and his only flaw was that he wanted to please every single person that he cared for. Obi-Wans story is the story of a simple human being, that is neither perfect nor excells at anything, but always did what was the right thing to do and prefered the hard way for himself.

    I read somewhere on a online Star Wars website that he had a middle class upbringing in a mercantile family. I think Alec Guinness and Ewan McGregor express this side of him well in the jokes and accent he has, as well as his more somber side. I would like to see a series or film about his early years.

    Always thought Obi-Wan was a little stuffy, but rewatching the prequels, the Clone Wars and reading some Rexsoka fanfics made me realize that I really like Obi-Wan.

    The Anakin vs Obi-Wan duel in the movie is amazing. The Episode III novelization makes it heartbreaking. Outside of the Zahn Trilogy probably the most necessary Star Wars book out there.

    Woah woah woah, where does it talk about Ben’s younger, more impatient years? Because even at the start of Phantom Menace he seemed to be always kinda the level headed, calmer, albeit on occasion judgemental person between himself and Qui gon. Although I’m sure there’s a book or something I haven’t read that says more, if so, which book, I’d like to read it lol

      Star Wars Galaxy of Adventures. They animated tons of key scenes from the saga and its all up on Star Wars Kids YT channel. They. Are. Amazing. But what's more amazing are the "anime openings" people have edited from these. Sounds strange and it is but its great.

    10:15 too be fair Anakin was so in tune to the dark side that it was almost impossible for him turn from it as they're many insists Vader could have turn alway from the dark side but never did in fact he double down his connection to it and it took luke love and courage and faith in who Vader use to be while he was being kill by sidious he call out for his father that made Vader sacrifice himself
