  • The ALL NEW Grand Cherokee L is here and Jeep has added a 3-row to the equation. On the outside you will find a total redesign of the sheetmetal, grill, wheels, and fascias. On the inside the interior has been brought up to a new level with leather seating, 10in infotainment system, digital dash, and night vision. Under the hood is a 3.6L V6 pumping out 290 HP & mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Is the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L V6 a better SUV than a Kia Telluride?

    I don't see this being compared to the Telluride or Highlander anymore, Jeep has stepped it up to the Acura/Lexus luxury category. I think Jeep has done a wonderful job with this one. As an everyday driver the 3.6 L should be adequate. Good camera work Lori.

      Maybe Acura and Infiniti, still has a little further to go to reach Lexus though fit and finish wise

      Unfortunately not. Telluride will have a refresh next year with digital dash and wireless Android apple car play. Telluride offers ambient lighting and second row cooled seats. According to car confections testing, telluride is also quieter inside which what luxury suv buyers care. 67 db on GCL vs 63 decibels on telluride. Kia stepped up the game too far for jeep to keep up at this point. It’s even cheaper and offers unbeatable warranty. It’s hard to beat. This is coming from a GC overland owner who had his suv in the shop for leaking air suspension, rattles, and bulging dash board issues. I also didn’t like the noise of the V6 pentastar engine. It was very noisy.

      @@al151 don’t get me wrong, the Telluride is a top notch SUV and I have driving one. Best bang for the dollar. 54k all in. The reason why I think the GCL is up the luxury brands is the price point and finishes. The OVERLAND version here in Canada is 70k plus taxes. They are aiming high and might actually meet their mark. Very sorry to hear about the air leak with the suspension, it’s not the first time I’ve heard that. If Kia are doing a refresh that would be a good thing for buyers.

      @Jeffrey J thanks for the input, I took a telluride of a test drive last year and was quite impressed. I haven’t sat in the new GCL yet but from the exterior and pictures it looks amazing. I’m glad you told me about this as I’m on the market for a new SUV this summer so I may take the GCL off my list. Right now I’m leaving towards the Acura MDX. I’ve heard that Tellurides are hard to get at the moment due to demand.

      Chrysler made product at the end of the day...Worst reliability and crash test ratings in the industry.. Telluride crashes like a tank and KIA brand is second or third most reliable behind Mazda and Toyota if hasn't taken the no.2 spot... Chrysler is dead last in reliability and crash test ratings... Kia uses high strength steel from their own factory... BMW, Audi, Mercedes Benz uses high strength quality steel also and materials.. This nice looking cheap death trap ahaha will fold like a tin can in an accident... Don't get fooled by the design and initial looks, dig deeper..

    If youre going to spend nearly $65k on this behemoth, do yourself a favor and just get the hemi. It’s well worth the $3000 for the extra performance. That engine alone makes the GC-L a worthy competitor to the Bmw x7 x40i, Mercedes GLS450, and Lincoln aviator.
    The 3.6 is fine for the basic trim levels under $50k.

    One thing noticed was the technology included. But at $63,000 it's still a Jeep and having test driven the Explorer ST with it's 400 HP Ecoboost and a price tag of $59,000. It's obvious there's other options in this class other than the Telluride. I'm also looking at a Lincoln Aviator which I think blows the Grand Cherokee out of the water regarding exterior styling. The Aviator certainly doesn't cut corners on it's interior which you would expect for $73,000. Hats off to Jeep and it's new interior. Unfortunately the exterior design isn't as exciting. Thanks for the review. Now I'm wondering how the Jeep rides and drives. I also believe in real world use. It will be hard hitting especially the city est. EPA numbers. The wagoneer is to large and heavy for the ancient Pentastar V6. Thanks for the thorough and informative review.

      10 times better? Telluride fully loaded is 46k which is about 20k less than this Jeep. Telluride also has the best warranty in the industry 5/10 and is very reliable. It also has more interior room, absolutely steller lane keep assist, and probably one of the best looking front designs in the category. Let's be slightly more realistic with these statements.

    Joe, the Jeep Grand Cherokee L in the Overland trim literally strips the pants off the Kia Telluride in the SX trim. The choice of having one of two engines, power folding rear seats, interior camera, panoramic roof, better towing capacity and more gives the Jeep Grand Cherokee L the advantage.

    • @tionicho

      Chrysler made product at the end of the day...Worst reliability and crash test ratings in the industry.. Telluride crashes like a tank and uses high strength steel like Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Lexus etc while Chrysler uses cheaper materials and has some worst test crash ratings lol The most important component of luxury vehicles is protecting their passengers in a crash from fatality (family, kids etc)... The Grand Cherokee fails big time... Hey but it looks good..

      The jeep has worst crash test ratings and reliability in the industry... The cheap aluminum and third class chinese steel they use is garbage... @@persaud101 In terms of overall reliability, the Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles are fine. It's above average for the reliability level. Out of all the SUVs out there, the Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles since the first generation until now generated the most sales. Up until this day I still see a couple first generation (model years 1993 to 1998) Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles still driving on the road, few second generation (model years 1999 to 2004) still driving on the road, some to a lot of third generation (model years 2005 to 2010) still driving. I have a third generation Jeep Grand Cherokee myself. For the outgoing fourth generation Jeep Grand Cherokee (model years 2011 to 2021), as we all can see there's a lot of them driving on the road. A lot. Due to the fact that the fifth generation Jeep Grand Cherokee L and just released fifth generation two version made improvements in couple areas, reliability levels will move up. As for crashes, that depends on preference and the type of crash. So far I've never seen a Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicle get a roll over during a crash. Not saying it won't happen though, but if a roll over happens for a Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicle it'll be towards the rare/seldom side. Sometime next year I'll get the third model year of the Jeep Grand Cherokee L. I'll get it in the Overland trim with the V8 engine which will smoke the pants off the Kia Telluride. Speaking about smoke, in recent times some Hyundai and some Kia vehicles have been catching on fire at any given moment. One of the reasons for this is poor assembly from the manufacturer themselves. The video link below will be a little more elaborative about the scenario.
      Here it is. Take a look.

    • @jefferybaxter1225
      @jefferybaxter1225 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's good they finally included third row seating for their mid-size SUV. Bigger vehicle than before. Now, who ever is cross shopping for a mid-size SUV they can include the Jeep Grand Cherokee L as one of the vehicles on their list. Jeep Grand Cherokee L is 15 inches longer than the outgoing fourth generation Jeep Grand Cherokee. Jeep has two other bigger SUV that'll get released either sometime this month or sometime next month. Those will be the Jeep Wagoneer and Jeep Grand Wagoneer. Those two vehicles will fill in the empty full size SUV line hole in the lineup. After they get released the Wagoneer will compete with the regular full size SUVs while the Grand Wagoneer will compete with the luxury full size SUVs. This will be a good year for Jeep.

    Telluride fully loaded is roughly 20k cheaper at 46k. It has more interior room, a usable and comfortable 3rd row, and one of the best standard warranty in the industry: 5 year bumper to bumper 10 year Power train. Its also very reliable. There's a reason why it outsells every other SUV in its category. Price vs value ratio is insane.
