    A doubt from my side. Sir, if two spherical chares are connected with a spring, how will the maximum and minimum separation be affected if
    a) spring is conducting
    b) spring is non-conducting
    c) instead of spring, a rod with a coefficient of linear expansion joins the two spheres

    sir i have two doubts:
    1)how can center of charge be used to calculate the interaction potential energy?(P.S. if center of charge is defined in a similar way as center of mass, then why is it not correct to write the gravitational potential energy by taking the distance between the center of masses of the bodies).
    2) in the example at 14:00 how can we say that self energy will increase as if on on side charge density if increasing (increasing the self energy), on the other side charge density would decrease (decreasing the self energy).

    sir i had a doubt regarding the change in self energy: how can we definitely say that self energy will increase because charges are coming together, because at the surface nearer to the external charge the charges are moving far apart, so isnt it possible that the two changes compensate each other?

    • @ENGINEERBABU22
      @ENGINEERBABU22 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No i think we can say but think slight differently,see if sphere is conducting than if we put Q1 charge on it,it will distribute uniformly throughout the sphere without doing anything kind of work .But if we have to distribute it non uniformly throughout the sphere than we must have work on it. That's why it will lead to increase in self energy.

    I don't think distance from centre of charge can be used to calculate interaction energy - potential energy depends inversely on the distance between charges, not linearly. (I'm assuming centre of charge is analogous to centre of mass here)
    This can be verified by taking 2 point charges equal in magnitude, and trying to calculate interaction energy of the system with a 3rd charge using distance from midpoint of the 2 charges - doesn't work.

    • @physicsgalaxyworld
      @physicsgalaxyworld  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When centre of charge is calculated for energy then what you've written would have been already considered in its calculation so it can be used !

      We know that shelf energy of a conducting shell with charge q is kq^2/2R. Here if a conducting shell is considered of radius a, its field lines go from a to infinity, it's energy kq^2/2a and for a shell of radius b and same centre, it will be kq^2/2b. Here energy loss is in metallic part, which corresponds to energy difference of first & second shells ie kq^2/2a - kq^2/2b
