That was awesome bro. I feel better after seeing this done. Mine are smaller but will eventually need to be done. Right now I'm researching how to change regular wondows
They make aluminum brackets that you can build a casement for the window. Spray foam will not structurally hold a window sufficiently and also voids the warrrantee. n/m that wooden casement/framing will hold it too.
My basement windows have 1 inch thick wood all the way around the old window and then concrete foundation around that. Does the wood have to go or can I leave it?
@@thebigmacd no it isn't made to hold an openinh otherwise it would have rebar in it for concrete-tension bond. You need steel lintel or cut out and enter a rebar reinforced concrete lintel
It’s the glazing which can be redone if all in all your window isn’t bad just the glazing. Also if you want to keep the old windows reseal deglaze and glaze again
Yes and no. Yes, initially the foam is all that was holding it in place; there are no screws. I used cement around the exterior of the window as an additional support and then the inside has the window box casing and caulking also holding it in place from the inside.
Oh goodness I can’t watch anymore please take down this video do not show people this they will follow this super incorrect way to install their windows. Giving them many problems down the road not to mention the mold they won’t see for years but will affect their health very quickly.
You are 100% right. If this needed an inspection, it would fail in flying colors. I've seen some of his other videos and NASA we have a problem here, send help.
61 years old, man of all trades and still learning ! I was a little hesitant to start this but your video was excellent! Thanks
When you use the foam, always use masking tape on surfaces when you don't want it to stick, it makes cleanup a whole lot easier.
There is no world in which effectively gluing a window in place is ok. These windows have screw holes in the side for a reason.
looks great and very helpful and informative. Planning on replacing 2 broken basement windows, so needed some tips.
What size windows did you replace? Do you like that size for a basement?

Great video, now I know how to start for my project!
Thanks for the video! What kind of wood did you use to make the window box?
I believe I used 1x12 primed pine

Great teaching buddy keep up the good work I’ll see if I’m able to put it into practice
You get a like for the song alone lol. Good video tutorial 👍
Very helpful
Darn, really wanted to see the part where you sealed around it with concrete
At least show a picture of the window from the outside please!
I wanted to see the video how you sealed it as well because I have a similar window and want to replace it
Can you elaborate on how you sealed the edge around the window from the front?
I mixed up some mortar mix and troweled it on then used a sponge to smooth the finish
great video ..
What about the important part? The OUTSIDE?
My basement windows have 1 inch thick wood all the way around the old window and then concrete foundation around that. Does the wood have to go or can I leave it?
I would leave them if the wood is still in good shape
TYSM! Totally awesome job! Very helpful & well explained.
when you took out that structural window did you add a steel lintel above the opening?
What makes you say that it is a structural window?
@@SpiritofaHandyman the foundation was poured around it. Otherwise a lintel would already be installed
@@Galgamoth the concrete above it is the lintel.
@@thebigmacd concrete doesn't support well under tension

Beautiful work man!
what window did you use? It looks different than the ones that I saw at homedepot
We ordered these from Lowe’s. They were custom ordered to fit the space
why did the window box need shims/blocks and not fit tight to the drywall? is that to create extra space that is filled with insulation?
Just a design choice. You could totally run the drywall up to the window if you prefer
very good job…very helpful video,thanks
Bless you!
Do you not need to drill screws into the window to go into the concrete ontop of the sleaing foam that you used?
I did not but that could add some additional contact points
You “yadda yadda yadda’d” over the most important part of this window which was the actual install and the quikrete.
Thanks very helpful
You can also use a rubber hammer too.
or properly use a beater block by holding it against the finish material and then tapping it with a hammer...not use a block as a hammer, doh!
Hi, did you only use the expanding foam to hold the window in place? Thanks!
Yes and no. Yes, initially the foam is all that was holding it in place; there are no screws. I used cement around the exterior of the window as an additional support and then the inside has the window box casing and caulking also holding it in place from the inside.
yikes
@@SpiritofaHandyman 🤦♂️
Sorry, what brand of expandable foam and exterior sealant did you use?
Nice video
You didn't screw the window into the concrete?
Correct. They are bonded in using the foam
Nice vid, but don’t know what Window Glazing is? 😀🤔😳
It’s the caulking around the glass and the trim
I really like the Stodoys plans.
Would be nice if you showed outside view
Weather is no affect the windows because dosen't have a wood frame
those old windows are held in with window putty. totally still can be reputtyed or even reglassed
This is a terrible job... you would not pass inspection... not even close...

He has good intentions, but so far he's wrong in most of his videos.
Using just foam is extremely shoddy
Not really. That window is not going anywhere. You can do that with all small windows that are installed in this particular situation.
Speak up......
Oh yeah someone can push that window in with ease. Do not show this crap install please!
