Kim's ! I love you video , I have 2 arm chair , I thrift in Salvation army about 4 years ago , you video make me feel motivated . I'm afraid to upholster this chair , is my first time , I never did before . But wait your video, something tell me , just go ahead and do at , I going to tray , upholster this beautiful arm chair . Thank you very much for this video😂🥰
I watched a few other videos and then this one. What a difference!! Yours is the work of a true professional. Thank you for sharing your craft. I do not think I would be able to do as good a job as you, and watching this video makes me want to go to a professional to have the work done, as it seems I could probably botch the antique chair and ruin it. What a great way to advertise! Thanks again!!
Nice one, great video, I've been going round the recycling centres for years getting things to do up for my house, now it's full to the brim I'm a little bit gutted there's no need for me to do it any more, then I realised I could get things, do them up and sell them, it's a hobby really, the trouble is I usually like the things I've done up and want to keep them!! I think I need a bigger house!! Thanks for the lesson!!
Hu Sirena, What is stopping you? To learn you just need to dive right in and give it try. If you need a bit more help take a look at our membership and I can help you get started. See you on the inside, Ki
Absolutely great video, thanks! I watched some previous videos for ideas on making cushions. My daughters outside furniture cushions disintegrated and this was a first time adventure for me. I found your videos very helpful and the cushions came out great! Not perfect but great and it made my daughter very happy, which was the whole reason for attempting the job. It took me weeks, but I kept getting stumped and had to review videos for support, but it was well worth the time and effort! Thanks again!
YOUR AMAZING!! I WOULD HAVE LOVED TO LEARN THIS WHEN I WAS YOUNGER AND IN SHAPE. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING. I GREATLY APPRECIATED WATCHING YOU DO THIS. SUCH BEAUTIFUL FABRIC. THANKS AGAIN
Loved watching this as i'd like to try this for some dining chairs. The silver strip of grab - where do you buy that - just an upholstery shop? It makes the finished product with the piping look so much more professional.
you're amazing :) having a custom toddler sofa chair done for my son on christmas but know that it may have staples showing in the backside where the fabric is held down. Started looking for ways to use upholstery tacks, which led me to you. it's absolutely wonderful to be inspired by you :) never thought I'd actually feel I could do this on my own, which I won't this time, but wow! Amazing job & video :)
Great video! Afraid I don’t have the patience needed for this kind of project, but I enjoyed watching you make it look so easy! Lol Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge and expertise with us!!
Thank you so much for this video! I'm currently recovering an antique Queen Anne chair. At first I was going to make a separate seat cushion, replacing the attached cushion, but now I'm thinking I'll redo just like you've shown here. Looks so great! Can you tell me what 'synthetic' cotton you used please?
Thank you so much for this video and sharing your expertise! I have been following along step-by-step working on a similar chair and this video has been extremely helpful as a guide. To say I have learned a lot is an understatement. You do make it look easy and I have certainly gained a healthy respect for upholsterers.
Thanks for sharing your video; I've got an arm chair that I want to reupholster, so I'm going to try using your techniques. You made this look super easy!
I still get nervous making the cuts around the arms. It's another beautiful job Kim. (I've never stapled cotton--just the Dacron.) Thanks for sharing your work!
I think that would be a good video. A lot of learners/hobbyists probably jump in to the cuts to early and it's a good lesson to teach how to make prep cuts, so you can lay the fabric out for prep cuts on a confusing piece. Good plan batman. Sorry, I'm hijacking. Zipping my lip.
Wow Kim, you made it look so easy! You are very talented and loved the video! I have 2 very old wood arm chairs that I would love to reupholster. However, the chair sag in the seat and would need more work and afraid to begin the process and not be able to finish.
Upholstery work can be tedious at times, but it can also be a lot of fun when it's your own piece you are working on. It's up to you. Thanks for watching. Kim
Me! Dance! Haha. Up until 3 months ago I was an upholster/soft furnisher 20+ years. Maybe dance should be my new vocation lol. BTW, i have looked quite a bit on youtube the last 3 years and your videos seem to be among the best on here, It could do with some English equivalent names for some things. Some things have Weird enough names to begin with so might be hard for this side of the pond learners to find what they need. Such as a welt seam is piping over here. All the best.
Happy to have found your site and videos. Is it just me - on parts of this video it speeds up so I have no idea what you are saying (several spots) I was debating taking a $300 upholstery class, but money is tight. Am hoping to learn as much as I can and as is necessary via youtube, so really appreciate what you have offered. Thanks so much! Lisa
Hi Jan, I cant wait to see your project. Check out our live upholstery and slipcover sessions on our Kim's Upholstery Facebook page. We also have more detailed video tutorials on our website. See you on the inside, Kim
omggggggggggg I am in LOVE! this is exactly what I want to do!!!! I want to make things that are old and make them new again and sell them!!! I love doing things like this!!! I wish you lived in Kansas city!!!! omg!!!!
I enjoy your tutorials much more than any other! Can you please tell me which staple gun brands are better and what size staples work better for upholstering? Thanks again for sharing !!
Diana Lovin Nice to meet you and thanks for the positive feedback. I use Fasco and Tacwise staple guns. We use 3 sizes in the upholstery process 3/8" is the size I use most often, 9/16" for areas dealing with support and 1/4" for things like are panels. Hope this helps, Kim
very durable! non fading from the elements while sitting on our balcony, i used upholstery tacks underneath to hold the material. i found these chairs in the trash , fixed it up , and did a test on craigslist and i got an offer of $110!
Diane Stevens we have a tool video doing just that. Check it out and if you would like to join, we have an Upholstery and Soft Home Furnishings DIY community where you can share your projects and ask questions.
When I looked at your picture, I thought you were Ina Garten! :D Thanks for sharing your talent, I'm currently on my planning phase on upholstering our couch. It has a curvy arm rest so I don't know what to do with that part. Still studying and learning though. Anyway, GOOD JOB keep on!
+Gift Princess Buhman Thank you for your comment. Please keep me posed if you decide to tackle upholstering your sofa. We love pictures of what our friends are doing. Kim
Thank you for your tutorial, I'm anxious to try this with a cane wingback style chair that I found at a yard sale. I think it's a diamond in the rough but I'm so nervous!
You are welcome Jennifer DiMare . Don't be nervous, the most you can do wrong is ruin a little fabric. If you don't like your results take the fabric off and start over.
Kim's Upholstery Thank you for such an informative video! I like the way you added the cording. It looks so much better than all the vids I've watched. Kind of turned me against the cording so I planned on adding the decorative tacks. I have 2 chairs I want to add cusion and fabric to. The chairs have caning on them. The caning is in good shape just not my taste. Can this be done without disturbing the the cane?
Thank you LeLe for asking. Spent Christmas break sanding, staining wood. Looks good and finally dry. I've been searching for perfect fabric and finally found something today- called Baby Cheetah. I love it. I didn't find big things of cotton batting for cushions so the nice lady working in Hancock Fabrics suggested big foam and covering with thin cotton batting used for quilts. I think I have most supplied as of today. Now need the nerve to start project. Good luck with yours!!
I love watching your video's. I am the first stage of reupholstering a chair. We are still sanding all the paint off. I would like to know what you used on the back? That is the stumper for me. Any and all suggestions would be great
Hi, Kaleen, The material on the inside back is a polypropylene fabric that our supplier calls Sagless. You can substitute jute webbing and burlap. Thanks for watching.
I am upholstering a similar chair as I keep watching your tutorial. Unfortunately, the more I watch, the more I am falling I love with yours. May we do a swap, please?😊
Let me start by saying this video is incredible! You make reupholstering look easy lol. I think i watched all of them and it just kept getting better. I have one question for you though. I was so inspired by the videos i decided to try my hand at reupholstering again.I've done a few chairs and a sofa before. Anyway, I purchased a 20 gauge stapling gun but i got stuck on the whole compressor thing though. I know you said about 80 or 90 pounds but what about the gallons, I was at Harbor Freight Hardware and they had a 3 gallon pancake compressor (the PSI was 100} for $59 (which i thought was sweet) but the clerk warned me that because it was only 3 gallons it would not work continuously{ie I would have to wait 3 seconds in between each staple) and if i wanted to return it there would be a 20% restocking fee. So in the interest of not paying someone $18 to put a box back on a shelf, is this a good deal or should i cough up the $179 for the 15 gallon tank. i would love to know what you use. Thank you so much for your time. And again I think you're brilliant. Anthony Sebastian
+Mirah Carter That really depends on your level of experience. I would guess 2 days for the beginner. Thanks for watching and please subscribe to my channel. Kim
That is a great way to describe this J Westfall. We have more detailed tutorials on our website if you are interested. kims upholstery dot com. Thanks for watching, Kim .
20 years on and it still makes me nervous. It's good to be nervous, there's a lot of effort already put in and some fabrics cost a fortune or take 12 weeks.. As long as your pattern and tension is all in order and your sure where/if another cover is going to cover it up your all good to go. And you can sneak up to it, cut test tensions, cut a bit more. Can't uncut a fabric. I hope I'm not making you nervous :D
Fantastic video!! I am upholstering a French provincial settle. Just wondering if I can use the same method for padding the seat of my settee. I 8 way tied springs and the burlap, then an edge roll. Should I use foam? Do you have any videos explaining how to pad a couch.
Hi Kim: AWESOME!!!! Have you ever reupholstered an indoor chaise lounge? I'm in the process of doing one now and would appreciate it if you could do a tutorial on, "Reupholstering an Indoor chaise lounge". Take care!
As a matter of fact we have done several. We have one stripped down right now that is awaiting fabric. When were you hoping for the video? Do you use google hangout? If you could show us where you need help we may be able to answer your questions. Please share pictures of your work on our Kim's Upholstery FaceBook page. We will repost them. Thanks for sharing our video. Kim
Wonderful! Where do I find the tools? Where would I get the stapler? I have 2 straight chairs on the same order that I have had for years. I sure would like to try my luck, but not without the proper tools. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and great job! I admire you!
Awesome Connie, Im so glad you will be trying to make your own. Please feel free to join our Upholstery and Soft Home Furnishings DIY community on google + and share your finished project with us. Have a great day and please subscribe to our channel, Kim
Do you have a vid on tying the springs and the filling part? I'd also love more detail on making the edge roll and what type of cotton you used for the chair - where do you get it?
Hi Go Book Yourself and thanks for subscribing to our channel. I really have only one vid on spring tying:Upholstery How To Tie Springs.m4v The edge roll and synthetic cotton I buy from a wholsale upholstery supplier in my area. Thanks for watching. Kim
that was a great video. You do make it look easy. Where do you get the curvy metal and the piece you used to push the fabric into the metal curve? I always wondered how that was done. thank you
+vicki carol Hi Carol, you can buy the curvease or ply grip from DIY Upholstery Supply. Google them. Thanks for watching and please subscribe to my channel. Kim
Hi Dathan, Thats why we call them the scary cuts. We were thinking of putting out a video called Just Cuts. What do you think? Thanks for watching and please subscribe. Kim
rory bellamy Thats a hard question to answer. It depends on your ability to learn and the quality of instruction you recieve. I have been sewing for 40 years and in business for 20. Sign up for a membership to my upholsteryclass.kimsupholstery.com site and you can learn from me. Thanks for watching Kim
Hi Kim. Thanks so much for all of the great videos! One question on this chair - what type of fabric/webbing did you use on the back of the chair to support the padding? I just stripped an ottoman that we've had for 13 years and instead of jute webbing for support, I found what looks to be the same thing you have on the back of your chair. Would love to know what it is.
Hi Kim, I have this exact chair and I love how easy you make it look. The chair and the fabric you chose is beautiful. How much do reupholster for chairs like this usually go for?
Hi Kim Love this video, I was like wow, that's how they add the piping along with that metal curvie. Love your instructional video's, learned alot just from this one video. What is your estimated cost of this kind of project & do you perfer working with batting or the 3" foam or both materials for this type of project. First time watching your video's, had to subscribe...love them, thanks
Adel, It would probably take 24 hours to complete this chair. Thanks for watching. If you are interested in learning to upholster furniture take a look at out website at www.kimsupholstery.com Kim

Thank you. It looks like a lot if work. I have a couple of chairs and stools I want to recover. But I'm not exactly excited to do it.
Possibly the most impressive bit of skill I've ever seen on youtube.
You made that look about as hard as making a peanut butter sandwich.
Thanks for the kind comment Lisa. Practice makes perfect. Kim
Gorgeous!! I would love to bring old chairs back to life like this!!

WOW you are the Queen Upholster. I would have liked to know what electrical staplers you used?
Thanks! I feel more confident about tackling my old chair.

what a gorgeous fabric! and thanks for sharing your experience! I absolutely love your work and learn a lot watching your videos
I think if I were an upholster I would be happy... This was beautifully done, great video!
I still get nervous making the cuts around the arms. It's another beautiful job Kim.
(I've never stapled cotton--just the Dacron.)
Thanks for sharing your work!
Wow. You make it seem so easy with the right tools. Wish I could get you to reupholster my chair
Ms. Kim, just BEAUTIFUL. Thank you for taking the time out to show your work! ABSOLUTELY STUNNING AND FABULOUS!!!!! :))
Thanks so much Teddi Galanski

Thank you for the video. Do you not use foam? only cotton?
Hi Nancy, We use foam in some cases but as you saw in this video we only used a synthetic cotton on this chair. Kim
I was hoping you would sit in the chair and enjoy the fruits of your labor. Great video.
