  • South Carolina attorney and convicted murderer Alex Murdaugh has the chance of a retrial thanks to a new ruling. Murdaugh was convicted of killing his wife Maggie and son Paul on the family’s estate in 2021. After the trial was over, court clerk Becky Hill was accused of trying to influence the jury to convict Murdaugh. The South Carolina Supreme Court will hear arguments for and against a new murder trial. Law&Crime’s Jesse Weber discusses what a retrial could look like with Joe McCulloch, who represents two of the jurors from Murdaugh’s trial.

The trial very clearly proved that he is innocent and it was physically impossible for him to have done it. Not a single piece of evidence to show any guilt, only evidence that exonerates him like unidentified DNA and hairs at the scene, in Maggie's hands, the cell phone data showing the murderers were at the scene when Alex was nowhere near them, not a single blood splatter on Alex except fish blood, no murder weapons ever found. All you have is that he lied about not being at the kennels and insane theories about how he killed his family because he was trying to hide his drug addiction or money issues. Just insane. You ''people'' aren't just low IQ, you are evil.

If the clerks remarks did influence a juror in any way, wouldn’t that be a possibility of an mis trial under tampering? The attorney not wanting
to respond to the Judge’s call , since he knows her since High School, should have no bearing on the law,if the Judge mad a wrong call. Then the impertinence of Becky Hill( clerk), juror 785 removed because of influence of the court clerk all appear
to cause a strong pause. Shouldn’t B Hill be investigated under the laws of tampering? How did that judge dismiss that? In truth of all this, how does this situation proceed forward ? To me all these concerns are serious, especially in our Court system.

He was at the kennel with Maggie and Paul hours before they were killed, not minutes. After Alex was with them at the kennel, his phone and Maggie's phone were never together in the same place again, so how did her phone travel up the road to be thrown from a window? Alex said that he asked his cousin, Eddie, to shoot him in the head and kill him, so Buster could collect his life insurance. How many of your cousins, even if you aren't close, would agree to kill you just because you asked? Furthermore, Alex was paying the same cousin Eddie fifty thousand dollars a week for pills which he (Alex) was allegedly taking because of his opioid addiction. If you were getting that kind of money from your cousin, would you kill the goose that was laying the golden eggs? And, for the amount of pills Alex was buying every week, it's been determined he'd have had to be taking over 280 pills a day (opioids), which is impossible to do and remain alive. Alex confessed to the theft of all the money, but that money, and any money he made from selling the pills (a more believable story than him ingesting them) has never been found. I believe he stole the money and was procuring drugs for someone else. I think he knows who killed Maggie and Paul, but he's covering for them. Why would he protect the one who killed his wife and son? Perhaps he would still try to protect the only child he has left.

I heard it too. But I read that each juror was asked if without the comments they would have found him innocent and all said no. This juror that said “yes ma’am” … what was the further questioning? Did Becky’s comments cause you to find AM guilty? Was that the nail in his coffin for you? Or would you have found him guilty based on the testimony and evidence. Those were the instructions. So “yes ma’am” juror, did you follow the testimony and evidence or did you follow Becky? Because if you followed Becky and she is the only reason you find him guilty, or honestly if she influenced you at at all, then you did not follow instructions nor did you do the job you were asked to do. Frustrating

The state proved his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Alex Murdaugh testified in his case, and he had every right not to. He was not believable at all.
