  • My first hike in Alabama was in Cheaha State Park within the Talladega national Forest. I hiked along the Cave Creek Trail to the Pinhoti Trail. A loop trail that goes just over 7 miles. ---

      Never been to Alabama. I spent a couple of days in Gulfport Mississippi, the Gulf Coast is really nice!

    Welcome to the trails of Alabama's Talladega National Forest! Nice video work. Loved your take on the Alabama woods! Not quite the Smokies or the Rockies for us Alabamians but our national forests will do in a pinch. For us pilots, that crash site is a reminder of how the terrain can be unforgiving.

    Just made it back from a weekend trip to Cheaha and Little River Canyon. Great views on Cheaha and nice trails as well. Little River Canyon was amazing as well but the trails were a bit more challenging.

    Glad you visited Alabama... my backpacking proving ground where I refined backcountry skills.
    There are 2 great multi-tiered forest waterfalls that were within a 10 min drive of where you were - High Falls & Cheaha Falls.
    Maybe next time when you’re passing through Bama.

    This popped up after I watched stories of Adam Simjee and his girlfriend were robbed and shot at this Forest. How awful for such a tragic event to happen in such a beautiful place! RIP Adam 💔

      How terrible. Sadly our National Forests and wilderness areas especially in Appalachia seem to have harbored many criminals over the years. This Forest certainly gave me the creeps

    Some say this is the location of the "Meadows Project". Pinhoti trail in particular. Area of high strangeness at night. Be forewarned and highly prepared. Never travel alone.

    Those grapes are muscadines tough skin but so flavorful! Like concord grapes but 10x the flavor! Nice video. We lived in Alabama for 15yrs and loved living there. Tuscaloosa area was beautiful with lakes and hardwood trees in our area! The sourwood trees are beautiful in the fall. Thanks

    I think it's a myth that daddy long legs are venomous, which is good because they are everywhere in the South. FYI, I love your travel videos!!!

      OH HAHA I was told my whole life that they are super venomous, we had the all over growing up too. I actually just googled it and turns out a lot of the ones we think are daddy long legs aren't even spiders. But the Cellar Spider which is the real spider daddy long leg, ills brown recluse and black widow so a long time ago people assumed they must be really spider and dubbed them so.     Many gorgeous places to hike and camp in Alabama. If you make it back, try desoto state park. Several waterfalls in the park, desoto falls is close and you're a few miles to little river canyon. Many miles of epic and difficult trails to challenge anyone. Best bang for the buck for hiking around here.

    I'm always amazed with how much gear you carry and able to keep up with the filming on these hikes. I'm a terrible hiker, so I'm already dying 1/2 a mile in and don't feel like filming anymore😂 Can't believe it's fall already... I live in Florida, so I don't feel like it's fall until December is so. Good tip on the wide brim hat for the spider webs!

    Hi Alice I have a suggestion for you. If you are ever in Eastern Ky you might want to check out Red River Gorge. Spectacular views. Great place to back pack. I think fall and winter are best times .I grew up next to RRG so I spent a lot of time there. About 50 or so miles east of Lexington on the Mountain Park Way.

      A pretty short hike near Talladega is out to Salt Creek Falls. The National Forest where this hike is isn’t too far but it might be a bit round about from Talladega. The Cheaha state park is where this trail is though and there are lots of other hikes in the area too

    Looks like a beautiful spot to go for a hike. Was your bag full of hiking essentials or filming gear? Great views from the top - and crazy that they just left the plane wreckage there.

      My bag sure was full of hiking and camera essentials. Water bladder, cameras and some extra layers. Crazy there is actually a few plane wrecks in this area and since its miles from the road I think it would have been really hard to remove.

    My wife an I have been planning to hike the 130 mile trail but don’t know where it ends at if you think it could be dune in two days?

      Hi Patrick. It's not just one trail that is 130 miles long, there are several trails that connect giving 130 miles of trail in total. If you want to do an overnight you could do the Skyway Loop trail which is about 17 miles. Here are some other options too www.alltrails.com/parks/us/alabama/talladega-national-forest

    Is the hike suitable for an overnight with my teenage daughters or can someone list an alternative for the area.

      Yes actually this area is great for an overnight camping trip. I saw many boyscouts out on the trail when I did it. There are a lot of camp sites and I believe you can camp along most of the route as well.

      @@kz6713 I guess I am not sure why that is scary. Cairns are usually only used in rocky environments without trees. There was plenty of signage on this trail, as well as marked tres and an easy path to follow.

      I knew I was pronouncing it wrong haha. I am working in Atlanta for a bit and this is only 90 minutes. Plus I have to hike the tallest mountain in every state. :)
