Jocko Willink's Leather Kettlebell. A Review.

  • The Burden is a leather kettlebell made by Origin USA designed in partnership with Jocko Willink and Pete Roberts. I saw Jocko was involved and I liked the way it looked, so I decided to pick it up and create a Burden Kettlebell Review.
    My biggest suggestion, fill it with something other than sand.

    As positive as Coop tries to be about the product, it's ridiculous amount of flaws are so apparent. It's not cheap (especially as you have to buy other materials to fill it), it's not easy to fill, you can't use anything fine grain or it will spill out, you can't get it to a specific weight easily and you probably won't change the weight after you've filled it, you can only do single hand kettlebell exercises. It's just not practical in any way. It does look cool, though.
    Love the video and must say Coop is looking lean and in good shape.

  • @DavidAvellan
    @DavidAvellan 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I'm guessing metal weights were scarce (especially early covid days where everywhere was sold out) when the idea for this was made. In theory it sounds nice, but the execution reveals more of a nuisance than a solution. I think sand was not the intended filler, but as others have said, filling it with loose metal will end up costing more than an actual kettlebell. The adjustable part sounds nice, but they sell adjustable kettlebells now, so this also fails to achieve a better result as well. Jocko says, "DON'T THINK. DO." Well, maybe think just a little bit. :)

I would assume if the leather is as thick as you are saying it would be full grain leather. If they are claiming top grain, then it is likely not very thick relatively speaking when compared to 8ounce or 10ounce full grain bridle leather.

    $74 for a kettlebell minus the weight and longevity of an actual kettle bell. I love the rustic leather look of it, but it's a show piece than actual equipment.
    $74+$50 in pennies = $124 for one 45 pound kettle bell... really?

    I think the intended use is missed altogether. This is the hipster, AthleanX fan analog of truck nuts.
    There's a hip strap and special workout shorts that comes with it. I don't know why Coop left that off the review.

    I mean...is a good idea if you're travelling and need a KB, but...I honestly will stick to my trusted iron KBs...although the leather looks cool

    The product was made as an answer to the huge increase in demand for home gym equipment like kettlebells as a result of covid. As we all know equipment is hard to come by right now.
