Wow just found your channel and your content is awesome!! My wife and I are moving to the Netherlands in about 6 months. Would love more content on the DAFT visa or budgeting etc. great video! ❤
Love this video! I love the part about the catalyst moment. Going through that right now and happy to have found this video of someone who has done it :)
What a great and honest story. With a lot of very helpful tips. You're doing great. I hope other people that are planning to move to another country see this video. It will help them with their planning and making decisions. You're very much welcome in this country.
As for the anxiety part : try to connect asap. With your neighours, colleagues, make friends. Make them aware of your situation. You will get all the help you will need. Behave like one of us and we will treat you as one of us. We are private, but we stick together.
This is such a great video, I am from India and i have been following vlogs on the Netherlands and how beautiful and safe the whole country is. In fact my brother and his family live there and i myself have been there twice. I love the place and the people especially who are very friendly. This vlog felt very connecting, the way you expressed the whole process of moving out from your home country was very helpful. ❤wishing you all the best
Maastricht is gorgeous. My brother lives there(I live a little more up North in the same Province) and the city center plus the beautiful nature around makes it a place a lot of us Dutchies enjoy. 😊
I think you're very brave to move to a totally different country on your own, something I could never do. I hope you find your place here and if there are questions about this weird little country just throw it on YT and lots of Dutch people will rush in to answer your questions. Luckily there isn't much of a language barrier, English will do most of the time.
@@boomdoze I'd like to add to that though, that while you may be able to make do with English, that if you really plan on staying here long term ( > 5 years) and integrate here, it's probably worth it to learn the language. Without that you'll remain an 'outsider' as of course we speak Dutch among ourselves and only English to expats and the like. But there's no need to hurry with that. No harm in taking a year or so to get your bearings first, and decide whether the Netherlands really is for you or not.
@@RH-ro3sg thank you!! yes, that’s exactly my plan. I want to figure out if the netherlands is for me long term and then really take the effort to fully integrate and learn dutch ☺️
That ''not feeling safe'' applies to many Americans who leave for our country/Europe, how the police react to traffic offenders, health care system, freedom, less pressure at work...etc...at least that's what I hear when I put all those videos together. But welcome to our ''kikkerlandje''
I went to the states twice this year and i got pulled over for a traffic violation (and yes i was speeding way to much). It might be that i'm a white male in me 50. But the officer was nice and polite and i played the dumb tourist who wasn't paying attention. Never admitting to anything but certainly not denying anything he said and beeing friendly and polite. I got of with a an officiale warning in the netherlands it would have cost me serverall hundred Euro's.
It is so bad you felt no longer safe in the US, I get that you wanted to move to another country. I have seen quite some Americans on You Tube who live in the Netherlands right now, and they mostly appreciate the Dutch or European way of life. Which is good for you, don't get me wrong, but it also means that a lot of really nice people have left the US, how is that ever going to be a nice place again? A country you want to live in? It is a shame, I think, that all of those people who emigrate to Europe, are not able to change the live in the US these days. Besides that: welcome to this tiny country, I hope you wil be happy here. Please don't invite too much of your fellow Americans, because of the housing crisis right now.
Hi, awesome video and very informative! My family and I are in the process of moving to the Netherlands as well. Did you get questioned by immigration officials regarding the nature of your visit and your one way ticket? If so, what was your response to immigration officials for only having a one way ticket? When we visited the Netherlands last year we had to show proof that we had a return ticket back to the U.S
Welcome to the Netherlands. I wonder; What are your first impressions of our small country? What positive or negative things have you experienced yet? Are there any unexpected struggles? What has surprised you the most so far?
@@nae4436 I'm not an expert on this but from what I know it's not one-sided like you say. The Dutch American Friendship Treaty is intended to foster commerce and trade between the two countries. The treaty allows Dutch traders, executives, and specialized employees the ability to live and work in the US, just like how it allows US freelancers the ability to live and work in the Netherlands. People from either country are able to stay in the other for two years, with the ability to renew after. Not only that, but it also lets people bring their spouse and children with them. I see this as a win-win for everyone. Both nations get productive people who contribute to the local economy. Sounds like collaboration to me.
Imagine I had an uncle that moved to the US in the 50's and moved back with his wife to The Netherlands and could not assimilate in the country he was born in. They went back to the US again.
Nice seeing you here. Just make sure you have a steady income in about 2 year or they won't prolong it. Do yourself a favour learn Dutch makes finding Jobs way easier.
Personally, I prefer Amsterdam or Rotterdam to Utrecht. The mall is super diverse (Hoog Catharijne) but outside of that, it is not so diverse and I feel super uncomfortable around the city center as a black woman. I also had some microaggressions and rude incidents in Utrecht.
So you feel super uncomfortable because people have another skin color in a country where they are the majority...why and why live there? Can those people feel uncomfortable with you too because of your skin color, or would you object to that and call them the r word? Microaggressions? Like the world needs to be catered, towards you? You got some issues, lady.
