I really wish adoption agencies were more up front with adoptive families about known siblings. It's just cruel to separate twins.

I think they do that because it’s easier to have one child adopted than to have two adopted as a pair. Still is really messed up but yeah. In the past they also used to separate Orphans to do testing on the nature vs nurture idea later in life for them so yeah. Orphaned twins have to deal with a lot

Right. Most reputable adoption agencies never separate siblings.

    • @mixedmetaphorMeg

The agency typically isn't the one to do so, more commonly the two babies are placed with orphanages seperately so it's not immediately clear they are twins.

@@tammiebroggins so sorry to hear that. I've never held any animosity towards my birth parents. I didn't have the easiest life. I was picked on terribly for my race, looks and cut hair. But being a parent now I realize just how hard that decision must have been. I don't think anyone has the right to judge someone for making a decision they thought was the best at the time. My birth mom wants nothing to do with me but I'm ok with that. I'm not going to force a relationship on anyone. Hopefully one day their anger will lessen and they'll be able to understand your choices.

@@traceybc73. You have a beautiful spirit and positive, healthy outlook. I raised my biological daughters and thought I did an incredibly good job as a single mother. They always had a closer relationship with their father and blamed me for the divorce. We were relatively close until they became mothers, in their 30s. They have since eliminated me from their lives. I try to be like you. I am doing my best to not judge them. I never felt that someone should be forced into a relationship based on shared genetic material. They have every right to their feelings and should have the right to decide with whom they want to associate with. Interestingly, it is my friends who have a hard time with it. They think I should be treated as their mother and with respect for all I did for them. I do my best to “grin and bear it.” 😊

This is a beautiful story. I’ve had a heavy heart since my mom passed away 20 days ago and the fact that they met the day after she passed away, the coincidence that my mom has a fraternal twin (my uncle) and me still being a mess made this even more emotional and moving. I’m glad that Monday when I was driving to NJ to make arrangements someone was having a great happy day meeting someone, a part of them, they didn’t know was missing. Now I have that feeling of missing someone, but I’ll never get to see her again. Love your moms and cherish them. Love and cherish any family members. Wish both sisters a life of happiness!

I was never told by anyone that I was adopted. Then at 52 I took an Ancestry DNA test because I was working on my family tree. My half sister had decided to take one just a week before me. Suddenly I get an email from her asking if I was adopted because she believed we shared a father.... and he only had a couple of months to live and wanted to meet the daughter he'd never been told about. He wasn't even sure which my Bio mother was. Eventually I figured who my Bio mother may be but she died some years ago. I haven't felt like I should disturb her children from her marriage. I'm not sure what the problem is but I'm guessing that they're trying to help them be adopted. People are likely to hesitate about adopting two children but they also might not want to adopt one of them, feeling like they should stay together with parents who want to take them both. In other words, it might make it more complicated and people will hesitate to adopt!! So they just hide it. Not fair at all, adopted children need to have access to the truth about their backgrounds.

I can not even imagine growing up without my twin sister. Yes, we bicker and fight way more intensely than regular siblings but we're also so much more in tune and close as well. At least now they have each other again for the rest of their lives.

Is anyone here thinking how similar this story is to the other one they covered with the 12 year old twins born in China seperated at birth?

Unfortunately, stories like this is so common. Twins and siblings adopted from mostly Asian countries are almost always adopted separately and not told about the other. And often times, it's the adoptive families that aren't told either.

@@Fartsquad_ I'm sure it does, I just know more about the cases coming from international adoptions since I'm a twin myself who was lucky to stay together with our birth family, and these cases both fascinate nd sadden me.

@@aznmochibunny This is the 4th Asian female twin re-uniting story I've seen, same circumstances, families weren't told. They're heartbreaking when you think of the loss and separation, but they're always heartwarming to see the happiness they experience.

siblings should never be separated. they could've had each other for support and connection, but instead had a loss of time together. adoption should be compassionate, inclusive, and an acceptance of your circumstances.

My 14 yr old daughter is just like my sister and my sisters 21 yr old has always been more like me with certain traits and my daughter for the last month has been talking about the genetics of identical twins. I am Thrilled your 11 yr old was as curious as my 14 old. My twin is in NJ and I moved to S Fl a yrs ago but we talk and FaceTime and visit all the time. I hope your family does the same 💕💕💕💕
