thanks haha, i just assumed that most people learned the basics of brushstroke painting in elementary school. this paint job just takes time and focus thats all
I have same intake but leave my cover on and painted Mineral White Mettalic to match car and then broke one of the mounts on engine cover so I am starting over on that. I had the same strut brace but they didnt make it square and with both covers on it looks stupid so returned and went with a straight brace. One thing I noticed is you didnt sand the cover or use a Adhesion promoter before you painted might be a good idea on future jobs when painting plastic anything. Looks good though!!
The engine cover goes really nice with the strut brace and blue intake👌👍 I will be doing my engine cover in white with yellow writing, good video and nice car
yo I just did this and it looks great but omg I couldn't get it flawless... the white paint kept getting tiny bubbles in lots of areas and hand painting was a pain... The wordings and lines doesn't look as clean since they are raised up and the edges aren't painted ish. Just some paint spilling over to the edge a touch while hand painting the top. It was hard lol
The bubbles, also called "orange peel" is because no primer or plastic adhesion promoter was used. Everywhere you see a bubble is where the paint is going to separate.
I've done my engine bay 3 times now!. First time with vht high temp engine enamel with vht high temp clear. Within a month it yellowed pretty bad. I stripped it all off and did it again with no clear coat. It yellowed in a few months. Im currently in the process of redoing it again but idk what to do to stop the yellowing!.
I actually don’t have an F30 but my plan is to work after high school to afford one. I would love to get a black F30 and I was just asking what you would recommend. Thanks!
hey man, i have the same intake, do you always drive without that intake cover on? do you notice a difference? it sure does look better without the cover on it.
I've had the cover off for about 9 months now. I notice no audible difference, however it does gather additional salt from the roads near me being so icy. I polish the intake weekly. There is significant debate on the forums about cover on and off, i think it looks better off for sure!
@@ottomobili2575 3 or 5? @6:00 and @6:15 you say 5. And how is it holding up after a year? And does it get dirty easy? Thinking about doing this as well... wish they had alpine white. But regular white still looks good.. great work!
papitosabe yeah 5 for the engine cover, saw this comment on my YT dashboard and thought it was for my black wheels video. It held up pretty well and was pretty easily to clean off engine compartment dust with damp rag, just make sure you let it cure for a couple days after painting. If you want to go above and beyond sand the engine cover with 500 grit before painting
I did this to my cover. Sanded painted and clear coated. Same way. About 6 months ago and my covers turned light creamy yellow. Did this also happen to you?
Please take the phrase "go ahead" out of your vocabulary. You said it 85 times in this video. In every instance you can remove those two words and the meaning is exactly the same. Otherwise, great video.
Dude, awesome job with this!!
Kies Motorsports thanks Bryan appreciate it
Looks good just wish you actually showed the painting process especially the useing the paint brush part

its really looking great!
Great underhood look, my E39 is Alpine white so I'm going with the white as yours is, cool look thanks.
Thanks brother, definitley take your time on the details
Oil distributer cap?
BMW MASTER Techerr Yep, distributes the oil evenly across the rev range. 😂
Did you sand the cover for the primer to go on or was there no sanding involved just a spray Iver
No sanding, but you can sand if you prefer
@@ottomobili2575 No sanding and no primer/adhesion promoter? Gonna peel, sorry.
Did you just paint it ? No sanding ?
No sanding, enamel sticks pretty well to FRP/ABS. I’ve scratch and heat tested it
Where did you get the cerulean blue from I can't find it anywhere
Autozone
Ottomobili Thanks man I’ll check it out
im freaking doing this, thank you for this sick video, love it!
Looks amazing. Don't know what color id do mine. Only because my F30 is mineral grey
Graphite base color with yellow letters would look sick!
Would look awesome if u could paint match it to your car and for the stripes do the colors of the germany flag

Do you know what the problem is?
I want to do this too but i dont want to repaint it 3 times, just once and good
Looks good
Thanks bro
No plastic adhesion promoter or primer? In time, it will bubble and peel.
Lasted 3 and a half years with zero degradation of sacrifice to finish
What color(s) what you recommend for a Black F30?
Gloss red or Gloss blue would look good! What color are your brake calipers?

@@ottomobili2575 thanks mate
I thought your temp reader had Autobot Transformers symbol. Nice jacket too
68k, how's car running? any major repairs? looks great.
Engine and timing chain blew at 41K, replaced under warranty
@@ottomobili2575 yeah saw that, just picked up a 428i with 53k. Seluv motor so far so good.
Very nice !!!
Thank You!
Has this yellowed over time?
Nope, wipe once a month with armor-all when you wash your car
looking great !
just wondering how's paint holding up till this date ?
I sold the car in 2017 but it held up well for over a year
Nice!!!!
Thanks man
Can’t wait to see the timing chain video
Pratik Chowdhury mine blew at 41K. BMW replaced everything for free, still hired a lawyer
Looking at painting the n55 engine cover. BMW engine cover resting nicely on the trunk of my 72 Tr6. 😂
Nice! Mines a ‘71
Awesome. Great video btw. Well done.
That jacket though. NOICE. is that a motorcycle jacket?
Thanks, It’s an old motorsports jacket back when they were actually leather
Can you do mine ? I’d pay
Very strange you don’t show how actually do it ...
Wow - wasted time watching you NOT PAINTING A DAMNED THING.
Don’t think you actually did it yourself or you would of shown us. 😂

Hummmm i never think on that lol
Jonathan morales not a lot of people have done it, the cheapest carbon fiber engine cover I found was $800
Most uninformative video ever, shows you nothing

David Diez photos on my Instagram
Look very good
I thought this was a diy
More like your paint than anything
Wow don’t understand
Working on your ride with that white jacket is making me stressed 😫
Haha it’s an old racing jacket got plenty of scratches on it already
It's 110F not C....
That’s what I said, @1:17
Now fix the scratches you just made on your trunk lol
