I'll admit, If Roald Dahl didn't specify this cake being it's own creation in his Revolting Recipes book(www.roalddahlfans.com/dahls-work/books/roald-dahls-revolting-recipes/bruce-bogtrotters-cake/), wouldn't that line be even more hilarious if you imagine the cake actually being "Devil's Food Cake"?! XD
I've never seen this show live...I missed out when it came to Toronto 😭. So idk how anything is presented on stage. I do so love this song's energy, tho! It's giving me a Fosse--jazz-hands vibe!

1:40 is what killed this version for me. This is my favorite song from the musical, and I was really hoping the Broadway version wouldn't stray too far from the original, but that disgusting, off-key chord completely ruined it. I know why they did it, but they sacrificed awesome music that already did its job perfectly for a stupid effect of emotion that simply distracts the listener from the song.
Kelly Schweizer The original song, sure. This version of it just isn't as good. There are good parts, but if I'd only ever heard this one, I wouldn't like it as much.
its not offkey, its just. a rlly out of place harmony that doesnt rlly work at that point of the song. there wasn't rlly a need for it tbh. it sucks too bc i do like the instrumental fr this one better tho (the broadway version just has a better orchestra but thts p much it..)
I think it sounds fine, at least with what orchestra they had to work with. I think it was sort of a choice to make the song sound more... sinister i guess? I don't know. I don't think it sounds terrible. I really just don't have an opinion on it. But I do like the actual vocals better in this version.
It's sounds amazing, just because it "ruined" the song for you, doesn't mean the whole song is ruined. As my mom likes to say IF YOU'RE NOT GOING TO SAY ANYTHING NICE, DONT SAY ANYTHING AT ALL.
i don’t know why but i’m obsessed with 1:37-1:39, the spilt between “look at him go” and “i can’t watch” idk i just think it sounds cool 😭

Plus, they cut like... all the build-up. Complete waste of Minchin's awesome lyricism.

Why is this version so much worse?
FatCat808 probably because they aren’t dancing, and you don’t have the ambiance of the stage echo either. but i still like this version a lot :)
I was on about the composition, but I think I've come around to it in these last two months.
Because it's American- no hate :)
@@makenziekirby3769 “no hate” doesn’t make it any better 💀
