This is a great feature. Especially cause Cisco (small indie company) cant teach IOS to use ANSI. How can you match multiple words? SecureCRT runs every "word" agains the regex it seems. It would be great if "lines" would be checked against it.
In 8.5 (and earlier versions that support regular expression patterns) matches are only checked against a single word. The ability to match multiple words against an entire line of text -- and have spaces in your regex pattern -- is currently under development. If you're interested in trying out a pre-release version of SecureCRT with this "space age" regex support when it becomes available, send email to support@vandyke.com with your request; be sure to send your message using the email address you have registered as your VanDyke Software download account.

Regular expression syntax is documented in many different places outside of SecureCRT. In general, you can use any regex rule that doesn't involve whitespace (either literal whitespace or whitespace patterns), but there are also some regex constructs which simply do not apply (such as regex substitutions). Here are a couple of resources for regular expression language reference: docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/standard/base-types/regular-expression-language-quick-reference, developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Guide/Regular_Expressions. Did you contact VanDyke to figure this out? This video doesn't account (or I didn't go far enough into) for those who may paste upon right-clicking. To turn this feature off, go to Options > Global Options > Terminal and remove the check for "Paste on button". After I completed this, I was able to follow this video accurately. I feel like this is what you're hinting at - but I'm unsure.
The SecureCRT version displayed in this video is 8.5.1. SecureCRT version 6.5 added initial support for keyword highlighting (Windows/Mac/Linux platforms). SecureCRT version 7.3 added support for keyword highlighting with regular expressions (Windows/Mac only).
SecureCRT for Linux/Mac supports keyword highlighting. However, support for doing so with a regular expression "keyword" is not yet available in SecureCRT for the Linux/Mac platform.
