The final beat/solo is so dope and watching your process is super inspiring. I’ve been learning so much about these machines from watching your videos, and enjoying the music too
madlib made most of his iconic beats on the sp303 I had one back in the day thinking of getting the sp404 mk2 I just got the mpc one+ and was using the circuit rhythm with some random synths and multitrack before I got the mpc with a couple other wee samplers like the ko33 and su10 ..
Thanks man! Yeh, quantize is kind if a dirty word but I totally agree - qtz that first kick of the pattern n the 2&4 snares n there’s sooo much room for time travel with everything else’s swing!
Damn, that guitar part made the beat. You're inspiring. Have you ever used a Sampletrak St-224? Those machines are crazy dope LoFi boxes of greatness. They're pretty cheap compared to 303's, and even cheaper than 202's although they do way more. I think you would like it.
Hey man, I noticed your hitting the peak light on your kicks and snares. I find when I record to my SP404 from the 303 it can clip and distort. But when I pull back on the record levels it sounds weak compared to other tracks. Dope video btw.
May I ask one silly question, when bouncing or running anything from let’s say the 303 to 404, is there an input level to set? And if so, set it by ear so that it doesn’t clip/distort?
You kinda just have the red clip light to go by sadly. I usually don’t touch the receiving SP’s input gain n leave it at 127, then turn up the source SP’s output volume until the light flashes slightly…a little peaking is usually okay for me.

nice man, need to have a play with the 303 pattern sequencer!
Thanks heaps man! It’s kinda cool how it switches patterns immediately opposed to how the 404 cues it up...but it takes so much luck to do it cleanly.

Pretty dope! Try having your snare quantized and then the kicks/hats unquantized. Gives it a nice groove

Thanks man! Yeh, it usually is, I think a little peak light is cool if it sounds okay still.

Hmmm not that I can think of…
