      @@frikkieramabolo172Well the DA isn't exactly like Pappas. Who in the Executive of the DA is white and speaks indigenous languages? Pappas speaks the language of his constituents, one thing that builds a great perception of him.

      @@kabelontitsane4943 so your more concerned with what language spoken than the actual work of Governance done?. The ANC has been speaking that language for years and can't govern to save their lives. With Chris he gets the work done. Getting the work done is alot more important that public persona

      @@frikkieramabolo172you are clearly naive in respect of Politics, and even more moreso for SA Politics. There is a deep seated mistrust for white politicians, even before policies are articulated optics are important. A big failure on white politicians and in fact most white people is that they are not part of the larger society they live with. It's been centuries whites have been in SA and they still don't speak indigenous languages, without language you cannot identify with people and if you cannot identify with people on culture, you are not part of them. There is a lot of consciousness with black people about identity. A white mayor or leader who cannot speak the language of the people he leads can never be accepted. The optics are too imperialistic. For as long as white South Africans don't learn black languages, you will always be considered outsiders. And it is simple, language is culture and culture is identity, if you don't speak my language you are not part of my community. I wish my white friends can get this.
      It is not about language as a marker of competence, what I am saying is this, as competent as you can be, if at the basic level of identity you cannot identify with people, you cannot be accepted by them.

    Happy to say I just bought a farm in uMngeni municipality. Can’t wait to see what what Chris, Sandile and the whole municipal team will achieve there. That being said, like Chris Pappas, I firmly believe that everyone from the municipality should be involved improving the place. A couple of days ago I made an appointment with members from the municipal team to see what we can do to help one and other. Now, I am saying this as a European, I dare locals to do the same. It doesn’t have to be much, a lot of little gestures make for a big change.

      @@frikkieramabolo172 , no doubt DA municipalities are getting clean audits. Corruption that ANC is involved in, is the same as the one DA/NP was involved in, the only difference between then and now, is, there are many passengers to board the gravy train ( old corrupt system ). Those clean audits, I very much doubt, will help DA to be trusted by SAcans to run this Country, ever,because of our ugly history that has not been dealt with properly. South Africans are likely to choose ANC even in it's worst madness, as a result. DA'S conquests in my view, is in one thing ( killing apartheid with all its systems by uniting the world against racial divisions, by effectively addressing historical inequalities in the Country, systematically). When that is done, everyone will have. The Failed BEE /BBBEE for example, is supposed to be championed by DA and FF+ as it is an opportunity for this Country to address it's past pains correctly ( proper reconciliation). We should not even be talking about racial war here and racial fight there, not when these 2 particular political parties represent the interest on the Country. By them delaying to take leadership in ending racial divisions at grassroots here at home, they are delaying being taken seriously by the same world that took ANC seriously.

    Fantastic speech and marketing pitch. Very knowledgeable Mr Pappas.
    Now, when can we residents of Hilton (Winterskloof) expect to have the craters in our roads fixed and to have reliable power outside of loadshedding. As I type this 36hrs without power in Winterskloof and R1800 in fuel burned in my generator.
    I couldn't help but notice that within a matter of a couple of weeks of taking control in mNGeni, the potholed Karkloof road heading to The Amber's was completely resurfaced.
    Spread the love around sir. We ALL contributed to the DA win.

      @TheJonno696 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Now finished listening to the full speech and am left with the feeling that Mr Pappas you were "great coming out the gate" but ended up a socialist.
      Sir with respect giving people things for free is not the way to create a society with values. Giving free rubbish bags is a fantastic gesture. However it is pointless unless it leads to active cleaning up of the filth in the town centre (notably the taxi rank area) and of course Mpopomene.
      The "free" electricity (free only because someone else pays more) is great but should come with conditions eg "here's your free electricity in exchange for 3 full refuse bags"😊 it starts to instill in people the concept that nothing is actually free. I'd go a step further and say the above plus R5.00 for electricity. It's not about the money but the need for changing the mindset that we ALL have to contribute no matter how small the contribution.
      I'd be lying if I didn't say that it smarts to know people get free electricity while we sit in darkness in Winterskloof and Mpopomene shines brightly.

    • @therealmrfishpaste
      @therealmrfishpaste ปีที่แล้ว +3

      1. Hilton electricity comes from Msunduzi...so complaining about Pappas for Hilton's electricity problems is like complaining about Pick n Pay at Spar.
      2. The Karkloof Road was tarred so quickly because a contractor had already been paid in full by the previous administration for the tarring of the Karkloof road, but had not done any work. So the new administration merely told them to fulfil their obligations or be sued

      Absolutely agree. Even if the give is more than the take (from the taxpayer's side), there has to be a sense of service and reciprocity and those who receive 'for free' should be made fully aware of the true costs and that it isn't actually free.

      @Thando Nkalitshana thanks for pointing out my white supremacist tendencies. I was blissfully unaware that my thought process of "give and take" was so flawed. I have completely missed the memo that as a privileged, previously advantaged "oppressor" who was at school until the 90s, it is my duty to pay for the sins of my grandparents for my entire life irrespective of my stance on the past. I will tonight sit my son down and chastise him for being born into his situation of relative comfort and ensure that he understands that from this day forward he too will be responsible for the "sins" of his great grandparents. I will ensure that he understands that. Oh and his dreams of attending the most expensive school in the country, like Mr Pappas did, those dreams must be left because it's just not fair.....

    Good Job on your municipality. Little nervous on the socialist under tones though.

    I here all this good white leaders but one thing I will say is that the strength of the current leading government which is not delivering comes from the black uneducated old South Africans and the youth that gets all this information and understands it distanceed themselves from politics, so I can say it's really not as easy as it seems to take out the ANC.....a good plan is needed not just talks

      @ Taurus Space The youth of South Africa are finally starting to wake up! Have you seen Mac G's recent Podcast with John Steenhuisen on TH-cam? The comments of the youth ( who mainly watch this podcast) are very positive and inspiring and bode well for SA's future!!

      @@tonitappous2422 yeah I'm one of the chillers who are on the comment section but we need more than TH-cam or social media engagement we need to push the young to vote next election cause I know them im young as well and my fellow young one will tell you they are not interested in politics which is a very big mistake.

      @@stimela1 I agree with you, we have to make it happen. South Africa won't survive another five years of ANC misrule!!

      And when we look up to competent honest black people, we are told they are WMC puppets. Disturbing logic.

      You don't need to look up to anyone because of their skin colour. Look up to people who work hard, are honest and earn your respect.
