This, with combination of the fact that Poles are slavs themself (people of Eastern European origins) means that they are Eastern. I was kind of surprised to see some german dishes, as well as some dishes, where variants also exist in germany. that stuffed cabbage reminded me so much of the german kohlrouladen, maybe just with a tomatoe sauce? probably also different spices to the cumin used for kohlrouladen.
its a shame that there arent really any polish restaurants where i am, even though its in eastern germany. i guess if there is not a decent amount of polish immigrants or near the border, then the need for explicitly polish restaurants will fall.

It just didn’t make much money because of being foreign but that is Finlands’ main problem… not liking different than Indian food, sushi or pizza… the cabbage is I think actually borrowed from German origin because we make it in tomato sauce and we were under German occupation so many things actually got incorporated into Polish cuisines :)

I am so happy that finally someone talks about Polish food, which in my opinion, is one of the best in Europe :D It would be great Mikey if you come to Poland to show the amazing food we have here.
Żurek, Bigos, Pierogi, many amazing soups we have like Pickle Cucumber soup, Kapuśniak, Chłodnik (a cold, pink borscht which came from Lithuania but is very popular here), and even more extreme ones like Flaki (a tripe soup that everyone loves in Poland) or even Czernina (a blood sweet soup popular in regions like Greater Poland or Kuyavia, the best place where i ate Czernina was in Hyćka Restaurant in Poznań). Many amazing places like blue van (Kiełbaski z niebieskiej nyski) in Kraków that parks everyday in one of the parking lots near Hala Targowa and serves Grilled Kiełbasa for almost 30 years. Regional foods like oscypek cheese or potato pancakes "po zbójnicku" with delicious goulash and cheese in Tatra region. It would be amazing if you show Milk Bar culture, a cheap restaurant that was very popular in the communist times and now making a comeback that serves traditional polish dinner. Polish streetfood is also very intersitng with Kiełbasa and Zapiekanka being served in many places. And of course many amazing desserts like Pączki, Makowiec, Sernik, Racuchy. I think it would an amazing series and I think you would have a lot of fun here :D

My father's family, which is Polish, always made a sweet mustard sauce to go with any type of pork. The best way to describe it is that it kind of tastes like McDonald's hot mustard sauce. Another memory of mine is opening my Grandmother's refrigerator and seeing nothing but pork in it. Hams, roasts, bacon, and sausages literally hanging from a rack inside. It looked like the glass case in a butcher shop.

Years ago, I attended a Catholic High School in the Polish neighborhood in Chicago. Lunch was an experience. Many Polish grandmothers would volunteer to work and cook in the kitchen. We never had a bad hot meal. It was nowhere near the average H S cafeteria food. Hams, Pork, chicken, turkey, roast beef, cabbage rolls were on the menu. My favorite was the breaded pork tenderloin, the size of a salad plate, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetable, pie or cake, dinner roll and pint of milk. WoW.

It does make me want to visit my Polish in-laws! You seriously need to try the pierogi pan fried; they are usually done in oil and butter and if you're lucky with cubes of bacon and onions. We make dessert pierogi, with fresh blueberries.

That's the way my mother used to make them, but she would fry them in the bacon grease.

I love Polish food hahaha! Just like I love a lot of things Polish or eastern European. ;) When I was in NY I hang out at Polish places all the time, and I usually surprise a lot of ppl by being the only non Polish (and almost definitely the only Asian) to be at Polish parties, concerts, etc. Sadly not only are Polish buffets rare, Polish restaurants, bars, clubs, and other establishments are really rare at least across America. Even in NY there has been only a handful of real Polish places, and they’re even harder to find outside NY. I don’t really see that many, if any at all, in even Philly or DC, let alone in Baltimore where I currently live… And speaking of NY, the owner/chef that once runs multiple (he claims 8, while I can confirm at least 5) really famous Polish establishments across Brooklyn & Queens (and even NJ) is now bankrupt and most of those establishments no longer exists even. Which makes the scene of Polish places in NY even grimmer in a way… I really hope that there will be more Polish restaurants opening up and more ppl will get to know & enjoy Polish food, drinks and maybe other Polish stuff like Polish music (such as disco polo, they’re LIT!).
BTW, it seems that you have a great appetite! I know Polish serving sizes are no jokes!
