    CJRB milled titanium clips fit two hole Civivis. For around $20 they are a HUGE improvement to ergos over the really prickly clips coming from Civivi lately.

    Most of civivi knifes are a little on the small side. So this being larger is a positive. Definitely paying for the scales. Shredded carbon fiber scales for less than 100 bucks. I'd like to see the scales in person but pictures of them look amazing.

      It's not really shread carbon. It's a resin with carbon sheet in it. It's not in anyway carbon fiber. The carbon is not supporting anything, the carbon pieces are not structural what so ever. Not saying anything negative I love them and have the copper one and the silver one along with the copper shread carbon damascus elementum and the damascus incite in both the copper and the gold foil shread carbon. It looks amazing but it is smooth and feels cheap but it looks really good.
      If you want it to really look amazing wet sand it with 1500, 2000 and finish with 3k sandpaper and the depth and gloss is amazing.
      Just don't confuse it with shread carbon it's not.

    • @jgranger2002
      @jgranger2002 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EDCandLace it is really shredded carbon fiber in resin. I understand it has liners that are the structure. It is in every way carbon fiber floating in resin.

      @@TH-cam-Censorship-Policeyeah they are a bit slippery but they make up for that by being a bit chunkier than the average g10 scales which I really appreciate because I have sasquatch hands

    After watching so many of the new knife channels I’ve come to appreciate your channels attention to detail and methodical layouts that I very much enjoy-so many of the channels lack depth and precision . It’s how many boxes they can open in one video or a handful of the channels share a new knife between each other and all say what is written out by the company releasing the knife- they mirror each other in so many ways it becomes silly. Thank you for the time you take and honesty you maintain. Well done we have enjoyed your channel for years - just wanted to say thank you and keep up the good work.

    The Imperium is a perfect sized knife for me. The move to the 2.9 inch blade trend this year has been a little disappointing. That is totally a personal preference.

    I have the G10 version and I thought I would mention a few of the differences compared to the review model. For starters, you are correct that the G10 scales are flat not contoured, lightly chamfered along the edges and with a subtle texture for grip. It's not amazing ergonomically but it doesn't bother me either. On the G10 version the clip is reversible for left-hand carry, but it is not recessed like this model. I did take mine apart to do a custom dye on the scales, and for what it is worth I don't recall having any serious issues with thread locker (your mileage may vary).
    The only issue I ever really had with this, which probably spans across other Civivi models, is that I managed to snag the pocket clip on chairs on several occasions and it got completely warped out of shape quite easily. I was able to bend it back, but you can only do that so much before fatigue will break it. I would definitely prefer a stronger clip design in future Civivi models.

    I have the Damascus version with micarta scales. The pivot screw is not frozen and the knife is easy to open and maintain. I like the size. Most of my knives have around three inch blades but sometimes I like to carry a slightly bigger blade. The Imperium is slender so it doesn’t feel like a big knife to me. I have a lot of Civivi’s and the Imperium is among my favorites.

  • @mountman5386
    @mountman5386 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You may prefer the green micarta version with a damascus blade. Silver liners, thumb stud & (reversible) clip. I like the over 3" size for a few round the house jobs & the light weight would help if I wanted to carry it. The gold/silver fleck is unusual & looks great. Maybe they will come out with a smaller version or that material for other knives? One of the more interesting affordable knives you have reviewed recently. So many now are just expensive, especially for those of us who don't live in a superpower with strong currency.

    On a whim I stuck my Imperium in the sky rocket today, and bugger me if not half an hour later I saw you'd uploaded this! Pretty great knife. I've got the jade G10 myself and they are flat scales. And as for the size, I'm fine with it, since in the words of a certain knife salesman I've got slightly larger than average hands. All that being said though, I've not tried taking mine apart yet...

    Nick…it looks like your pivot isn’t aligned properly. Maybe the little nub that captures the pivot stripped due to the weak resin in conjunction with the heavy locktite??

    I’ve almost bought this exact knife so many times. . . I’ve been told I have too much carbon fiber in my collection already, tho and I’m not overly thrilled with the other scale options. I’d like some titanium or even steel. I agree! A 3” or right under 3” blade would be great!

    Nick, what’s going on with the “C” pivot logo being all of centered? All my CIVIVI knives have come with them perfectly centered. Honestly, the imperium is one of my favorite CIVIVI offerings. I have the gold and the copper Imperium models. Yes, the scales are a little slick, so I actually enjoy having the groove/line across the scale for a bit of added traction. I enjoy the aesthetics, and the ergonomics of the knife. I agree, I wish more designers would stop putting through holes for lanyards and put them in the back spacer like this. It just makes more sense to me, both aesthetically and functionally.
    Anyhow, thanks for your reviews, I always enjoy them. Keep up the good work!

    I have to say the Imperium is my favorite Civivi to date. Most of your issues seem to be related to size. I have XL hands and this feels great in hand and the clip isn't a hot spot. I bought 2 and swapped blade and liners to get the copper shred with satin blade and liners. Neither one was thread locked. I was able to swap without issue and the result is fantastic. The copper shred looks awesome in person.

    Nick, I personally would like you to update your knife comparison choices. The delica went up in price significantly, and I think something like the Elementum is definitely something more known and obtainable for a lot of folks. The R2D2 is still a good choice, because it's in budget range and a lot of people still know the Rat big and small. Anyway, just a suggestion. Keep it up!

    I own this knife and it's one of my favorites from Civivi but you make a compelling argument. Blade length is a preference thing but they could have done a little more for the price no doubt and they really need to change up their pocket clip especially at this price point it was old and boring a few years ago. Thanks for the honest review and perspective as usual Nick!

    Have the silver shred CF version that I got right when it was released. The screw on mine is fine and when I disassembled it, there were no issues. I will give you CIVIVI being lazy on pocket clips, as honestly, that’s the one thing I think I can complain about my own Imperium with (bought before CIVIVI hiked the price). I should note that I have really long fingers and size L gloves, so I am actually really happy about the size. Blade steel is good to go, too.

    Mine was thread locked shut as well, i was able to spin the whole pivot, as i can see yours was the same since the civivi logo is not straight on your pivot. I don't really mind the larger size but yeah this knife could have been super good but the small things make it just an ok knife. Great review Nick!

  • @JerryLoffelbein
    @JerryLoffelbein 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I can say the reason they have those black liners on there, is those scales are sparsely populated. Meaning if you separate them from the liners during disassembly, you'll see a lot of clear gaps in there, making the handle much more of an acrylic handle with bits of metal leaf and carbon fiber flakes. It still looks nice when put together, but a bit less premium than I originally anticipated.
    It does seem from the ignorant outside that Civivi has decided their brand recognition is meriting higher prices for the brand as a whole. Kinda feels like they want to push their Sencut models at what Civivi used to price models at. But Sencut doesn't have marketing, nor do they incorporate designers in the mix, so it's better for their profit margin.

    I'm with you Nick. After finally being able to get my hands on the knife I was a little shocked at how much bigger it was than how it looked in photos. None the less, I enjoy the comments I get from people on the gold leaf and shredded carbon fiber combo and the blade shape slices like a champ. Overall I would give this one an 8/10. Two points being deducted for the handle being a bit too smooth in some situations and for it being a little bit bigger than I would prefer. To anyone else that owns this knife, what are your thoughts?

  • @Baaddu
    @Baaddu 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I use my knife in my left hand but I prefer the clip for right hand carry. I only consider a knife right hand only if I cannot open it with my left hand. The Sebenza is a knife I bought as a left hand knife.

    adding swiss prices (which is roughly double of what us people pay) civivi is already "civivied" in my books, the value just isn't there anymore.

    G'day Nick, I generally like to look at fancy pants knives rather than own 'em, though this one, whilst not perfect, is basically a good design with tasteful bling IMO, yeah maybe a fraction overpriced but not too bad compared to some. Perhaps you're being a little bit overly critical? I have the 'silver shred' version (OK, maybe not genuine CF) and I love it. The color of the liners is just one criticism too far. The steel is excellent, it's lightweight, and if you think it's too big, just buy another Delica.

    mine does not have pivot problems.

  • @thepracticalblade9013
    @thepracticalblade9013 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I echo your comments in almost every regard.
    I think the line in the middle of the knife is supposed to give it a faux-bolster look (even though bolters are essentialy never the same exact material as the rest of the knife, so it doesn't even look right), and is a trend that needs to die. Faux-bolsters give me this icky feeling of "We didn't want to putt in the effort to give you an actual bolster, so here's our cheap version" and it somehow makes the knife feel LESS valuable rather than MORE to me.
    Civivi's pricing certainly is getting out of hand. You're right, they blew onto the scene with amazing budget options. But both Civivi and WE seem to be doing this weird thing where they're almost meeting in the middle... Civivi creeping into the higher end, WE creeping into the lower end, Civivi knives getting more exotic materials and WE knives moving from outlandish designs to... framelock elementums... It feels like neither company can decide what image is wants to portray and they both end up in this weird gray area.
    Disassembling the knife was also a massive pain for me. I couldn't ever figure out why, but it did NOT want to come apart. It was one of those weird ones where I got the pivot out and somehow all the pieces were still stuck together like glue.
    On on ehand, I really hope Civivi/WE get back to their roots and step it up some more. On the other hand, there are plenty of other budget and premium options out there that I believe are starting to do a better job, and if WE/Civivi don't keep up with the competition... well, such is business... they die. The consumers will make that call.
    I, personally, am at a point where if I'm considering spending $250 on a WE, I'd rather just throw $300 at a Reate, and Civivi's designs, while still good 'introductory knives', don't ever seem to do anything novel anymore, so while I'm sometimes interested in checking them out, it's never to a high enough degree that I actually end up purchasing them because they never fill any new role that some other knife doesn't already fill in my collection.
    Great review, as always!

    • @EDCandLace
      @EDCandLace 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gold leaf cost next to nothing. It's roughly 1 tenth of a micron thick 22kt gold. 30 sheets of 2 inch by 2 inch squares retail cost is roughly 10 dollars. Wholesale it would be much less. The amount of gold leaf in one of these knives is likely less then a pennies worth and without a doubt less then 5 cents worth.

    The thread lock is a completely legitimate complaint - I have this identical model and mine is now jacked up... the combination of CIVIVI's often sketchy show-side pivot and this scale material means you're not getting the pivot screw out. Just a terrible decision on their part. I think that alone is a pretty big black mark, and I really like(d) this knife. The rest of your complaints are just sour grapes - I'd argue the thread lock alone should make it difficult to recommend. And if you have one... DON'T TRY TO REMOVE THE SCREW.

    I kind of get the feeling CIVIVI is out-running the customer base. Once you have a good, (pushing great), design, maybe you need to stop producing NEW designs for awhile? Or at least make sure new designs aren't just competing with your current offerings. (That said...maybe they feel this fills an un-met "large knife" niche for CIVIVI?)

      If american wanted to make a knife of this quality they could. Instead they let poorly machined knives out of the factory and assume people will just buy it based on the name on the blade.

      @@jgranger2002 Hogue, microtech, olaymic, protech, medford, spyderco and even kershaw seem to do a pretty good job to me. You definately pay more for an American knife of the same quality but I'm happy to support makers from everywhere.

      I support knife makers. If they happen to be American, so much the better. I am waiting for my Ritter Hogue to arrive. Part of the purchase price of that knife went to support knife rights.
