I feel like vintage will always be up and down, but overall they will always hold a special place in true collectors hearts. It's the beginning of Pokemon TCG and a lot of us remember growing up with them. Great video bro.
@silaswendt1867 I'm 30 right now. I think it'll still be strong by the time I'm 50. There are plenty of 50+ year olds collecting and buying as we speak haha. I don't see myself leaving the hobby personally. I love collecting, vintage and modern!
@ Chee! Most definitely… 36 here, played Poke as a kid in middle school. I collect sports these days too but I know so much more about Poke I won’t be out anytime soon either. If vintage prices tanked today, I’d just swoop up all the ones I couldn’t afford before lol
Best Pokémon content creator in all of TH-cam. Such high quality content with a unique approach to the hobby. Really stands out from a lot of the other content and you deserve to keep growing!
Even the non holo cards from vintage sets sell higher than their value raw on whatnot all the time. There has been and always will be a demand for older cards.
I would LOVE to hear your thoughts and comparisons on the price, quality, and longevity of investing in PSA 10, CGC pristine 10, or BGS 10/Black labels! Especially with vintage cards!
Love your channel Phil !!! I appreciate all your content and your advice. I just got cards ready to bring to my local card shop that PSA comes to every 2nd Friday of every month. This is my first time and they are all vintage pokemon. I'm excited and nervous lol but i want to master my base, jungle and fossil sets... might be dreaming with a new baby but heres hoping lol
Hi Phillip, I love the videos. I just started watching last week and been watching nonstop and subscribed. Wanted to ask, where do you get that graph from? From what website?
I just bought a vintage collection. I was not sure about it, but after seeing the cards. They are in pristine condition. I just need to send them off to PSA. Thanks for this video I’m still new to investing in Pokemon. I had planned on just buying sealed. But when I came across this collection, I couldn’t pass it up. I just hope PSA grades them well.
"vintage" is changing. It used to be those base set cards because millenials and the pokemon boom and all that. But these days, a lot of 20-something year old collectors didnt grow up on base set or fossil. They grew up on ex-era like myself. And those cards are way cooler. Older vintage will stay stagnant and new "vintage" - the ex era that used to be just retro - will increase in value as collectors of that era get paying jobs and enter the hobby
Price also depends on where 1st edition stamped and Shadowless base set for example were ever available originally. I'm not sure they were sold in the UK for example therefore much harder to find there.
I feel like the only chance I have of getting something that looks like a vintage card as a new collector is XY Evolutions because I don’t have the budget lol
What's really interesting is Rudy (@Alphainvestments) talks about the vintage Magic cards all the time, and he's gotten to point where he's like "yeah, still not moving, unbelievably cheap, nobody cares but Rudy"
rudy also avoids slabs from what I hear...just something to take note from what the big dogs do) seems like slabs are just inflated cases for the little timmy's
@@monkey39128 nobody cares for mtg anymore after 30th anniversary it all went downhill huge betrayal to the mtg community for sure I wouldn't trust them with a single red cent
I love vintage! But I only have ungraded in an album, and most of them and from unlimited (not 1st edition), will it not do too well then considering how everyone is after quality assurance now (I.e. graded slabs)
The boom wasn’t real, I mean it was an anomaly. Market has just corrected. Looks like a crash but like you said they’re still double or more than what they were before boom
Something about the art of vintage cards that is classic. It's so unique and retro. Certain vintage card's art style is so weird it makes Pokemon look goofy, really creepy and evil, or just like mature. For example rocket's Mewtwo looks like Mewtwo has down syndrome. Some of the Gengar cards depict him looking shiesty and demon like.
Could you do a video on undervalued vintage cards for the market? Example the 1999 yellow cheek pikachu 1st edition is about $180 and I think it’s a good buy
Just remember graded slabs can be fake which means the card itself could be fake or at least not the quality the number represents! You have to know how to spot fake cards and fake slabs! Plus people that grade cards can easily make a card go up +1 or down -1 easily as it happens all the time as conditions are subjective.
What are your experience with Mystery Gems, I have pulled from it 2002 Jynx Rev. Foil Legendary collection and from another 2000 Tyranitar holo Neo 2 Japanese PSA 9 I hope they are not fake 😅 they don't look fake 😆 I am keeping it for sure 🤩 Love your videos 👌
I'm 31, kind of over vintage. The new SIR and IR are way nicer. And I actually came back to the hobby because of the newer cards. That's my opinion, prices can dump and I still won't buy.
Say it ain’t so! I’m so tired of vintage Incould cry. Just endless grams of the same cards over and over and over. Now they dress them up with a different color rubber case to stand out. Soon they’ll be dressing them up in little outfits. Show me some XY full arts or rare cosmos promos and I’ll be impressed.
i think it's adorable when people think slabs are "investable"; the issue with slabs are the buyer or the seller always holds the L; even one of the biggest investors in tcg AlphaInvestments doesn't touch slabs for a reason.... I personally rather own multiple copies of the same raw card vs owning just 1 psa or beckett slab tbh slabs are far harder too sell than raw singles/sealed...the risk ain't worth the reward imo but y'all do you) just this data alone proves how unreliable slabs are....the argument of they were floor prices in 2017 and it's worthwhile now lol If I got 20k to drop in picking 1 psa 10 shadowless 1st ed blastoise or a bunch of booster boxes of a trash set I'll choose the booster box route...same logic with picking up raw singles

Yea it’ll be interesting to see what the vintage market does when us old heads age out… if we ever loo

Been loving the consistent content i swear ive watched like 50 videos of yours the past month and getting me smartly back into the hobby
Thanks my bro!
lol dude the plummet is a correction from the Jake Paul boom. Vintage is strong as ever. They are up 10x from pre LP boom.
Best Pokémon content creator in all of TH-cam. Such high quality content with a unique approach to the hobby. Really stands out from a lot of the other content and you deserve to keep growing!
ur one of the realest content creators out there. keep it up man

Great content..I’d be so surprised by a vintage crash

Every serious Poke collector I know still holds vintage very high…gotta have your vintage collection before going crazy over modern ehhhh

always nice to have your opinion on vintage :)

30th anniversary will make everything boom again
Yeah I have a complete team rocket set that feels like it should be worth way more than it is right now!
I am apart of that audience that feels the same way my brotha

Vintage will always hold value and go up, but never at the growth rate of the newest, hottest, rarest chase from the latest ultra modern set.
Price also depends on where 1st edition stamped and Shadowless base set for example were ever available originally. I'm not sure they were sold in the UK for example therefore much harder to find there.

I really appreciate not being shouted at while watching Pokemon content 😂

Interesting topic 💫

Shhhhh 🤫. I've been buying up vintage for about 5 months now.
Is there any disadvantage in having Beckett or scg grade your cards ?
Beckett grades harshest and SGC isnt that popular for pokemon. Beckett 10 is significantly more valuable than a PSA 10 though
@ireland5040 very interesting, I appreciate it.
What are your experience with Mystery Gems, I have pulled from it 2002 Jynx Rev. Foil Legendary collection and from another 2000 Tyranitar holo Neo 2 Japanese PSA 9
I hope they are not fake 😅 they don't look fake 😆
I am keeping it for sure 🤩
Love your videos 👌
I waited 3 years to get my cards back from PSA
Long Live Vintage!
I got prelease raichu..

Yeahhh no the Illustration arts gonna keep them dead
Great video!
Meh the guys at the top can have em they’re too inflated for me
Damn beat me to it! 😂
You just created this account today though.

The next boom will be for S&V not these vintage cards.
