In a way, Badlands would be the brother because Crybaby does not have a sister and Badlands would smoke cannabis be in a strange love and his colors would be gray like his smoke and dreams
I remember listening to this when I was little, I thought it was a masterpiece and we peaked as a society when this came out. I still feel that way. It still holds up till this day and it's crazy to think a bunch of other kids are going to listen to this and feel the same way. This was part of my "cool, wannabe alt and emo" phase. And now it will be part of other people's too.
These songs match when it comes to there meanings. Gasoline is about people's obsession with their looks and how "robotic" we are when it comes to our self esteem. Dollhouse is about looks as well, saying that we worry to much about how we look as people and how life is basically a dollhouse. I love it!

I actually interpreted this mashup in a different way. I can definitely see how these songs actually tie very well with one another, even though they both don't follow the same story. Halsey's song talks about a person who has been treated unfairly by the people who surround them and they feel entirely disconnected with the world. They feel like they're no longer deserving of love like the line in Gasoline implies: 'You're part of a machine, you are not a human being." Through my eyes, it seems like the person thinks that the world hates them and that's the main reason why they longer have love for anyone, even themself. Dollhouse works very well for the story that had been creating itself behind the scenes. The same person could've possibly come from a broken family and they were perhaps unloved or felt unloved by their family and that's what got to them to feel the way that they did. No longer deserving of love, because not even their own family acknowledged the way that they truly felt about their broken home life. And I also took the line: "Low on self-esteem, so you run on gasoline," into a different interpretation. Because of their lack of self-love and the people that they grew up around, they decided to take a darker path in their life. The gasoline that is mentioned throughout the song, is possibly the need to destroy and kill everything and everyone around them. A pretty sad story with a dark ending, but that's why both songs tie up so well with one another. Great job with making this!

So I've been an obsessed crybaby for a while now then I found out about Halsey and she is like the other Melanie Martinez so I love them both obviously but then I heard about them hating each other or something? Not sure if it's true but know I must choose one. Someone please tell me that the hating each other thing is a lie.
I have a different theory between the two people. Unlike the story where they’re both sisters, what if BADLANDS was the mother in Dollhouse? Crybaby would be the daughter, and it could be her trying to talk to her mother, who’s trapped in this world of alcohol and depression. The gasoline could be all the alcohol she’s consuming, and her describing about what’s wrong with her could be her thinking she’s not good enough, driving her to near insanity, and that’s why her husband is cheating on her and her son is smoking pot. Meanwhile, in one of the few times she finds her mother not passed out on the couch, Crybaby tries to talk to her mother, telling her everything that everyone’s saying and her own observations around her home. But BADLANDS refuses to listen, choosing instead to focus on her own problems while unknowingly describing some of the things that are going through her head to her daughter. In the end, both mother and daughter are broken even further apart and their house has even more tension than before.
My theory: they’re each other, talking to themselves. Like, they’re their own hallucination/imaginary friend. Crybaby is the little girl, growing up with an abusive family, going out alone and talking to her imaginary friend, Badlands, who shows her how to pour gasoline over stuff and light it on fire (‘lighting matches just to swallow up the flame’) and the burning is what makes her feel alive, making her grow into Badlands herself. Seeking comfort in the memory of her younger, more innocent self, Badlands conjures an idea of Crybaby Badlands as a little girl, and this is what makes her appear ‘deranged’ and ‘insane’. She doesn’t see the poetry in her looking for innocence by creating an imaginary friend, and really she’s still just a little kid inside (‘my heart is gold’). I don’t really know about this next bit, but isn’t plastic made from gasoline (I think gasoline is the American version of petrol)? And Badlands is looking for similarities with her past self (‘do you... like me?’ ‘are you... like me?’) to anchor her back to the world she’s falling away from, but ends up tormenting herself with memories of the abuse, ‘you’re part of a machine, you are not a human being’, until the voices won’t leave her alone, the same voices of the things she sees that nobody else sees (in that they’re secret from anyone outside the house, but no one else sees what’s going on inside her head), driving her insane. Crybaby is just looking for guidance and for someone who cares about her (‘no one ever listens’). The ‘throw on your dress and put on your doll faces’ and ‘smile for the picture’ is ‘face all made up, living on a screen’. ‘Open your walls’ is Badlands’ encouragement for Crybaby to open up like she knows she wants to because she used to have those fantasies of other people learning what went on in the dollhouse (‘one day they’ll see what goes down in the kitchen’), but she’s just telling herself, and imagining that she managed to tell someone else will never be able to undo what happened to Badlands.
Okay okay okay, hear me out: a music video of this mashup, and at “your son is smoking cannabis” it shows Crybaby watch her brother light a cigarette with a lighter and drop it on a table in front of her, not even noticing her. She pickets it silently. Then it’s her and Badlands walking along talking to teach other - their past/future selves and their imaginary friend, like I said in my last comment. Then it shows ‘filler video’, incidents mentioned in the songs about each of Crybaby and Badlands, then Badlands on her own, pouring gasoline over something and setting it on fire with that same lighter, then more filler, then Crybaby standing in a corner alone, with the lighter in the palm of her hand, just looking at it. Then more filler, but this time it’s of them walking, both together, to a destination, we don’t know yet. More filler incidents. Then it’s at Crybaby’s house, we recognise it from the filler video, but it’s in Badlands’ time, and it’s abandoned. Parts of it are made of brick and parts are wood. This is important for later. As Badlands pushes the front door open, it’s just her, then there’s a flashback of Crybaby coming home from school or something, and she pushes the door open too. Then it’s Badlands moving through the house, up stairs, and as she passes different parts of it it shows things that happened here, happened to Crybaby, and it shows Crybaby walking past those parts too. Then Badlands enters the attic, empty except for the dollhouse at one end, the half where the walls and floor are made of brick. It shows Crybaby doing the same thing, the attic looks practically identical for her. Then, still in flashback/forward shots, they both kneel on the bricks in front of the dollhouse, the lighter falls out of their pocket, they don’t pay any attention to it. The dolls are lined up at the open face of the dollhouse, Crybaby/Badlands, her mother, her father and her brother, all smiling. They both reach over to touch the Crybaby doll, and then their is a sound from downstairs in Crybaby’s flashback and they both turn, even though nothing happened in Badlands’ flash forward. They both reach for the lighter that fell out of their pocket, and light it, but then they do different things. Crybaby stares at the flame for a few seconds, then lets it go out and slips it back into her pocket. Badlands does the same, then stands up and picks up the can of gasoline, turning towards the other part of the attic to reach it and pouring it over the floor in front of her. Then she pulls the lighter from her pocket. In the flashback, Crybaby sits with her knees curled against her chest and her hands over her ears, and in the flash forward Badlands sits on the bricks in front of the dollhouse in the same position, with one hand hugging her knees and one holding the lighter outstretched over the gasoline. She lights and drops it, and then sits with her hands over her ears as the flames catch and smoke starts to fill the attic, the same as Crybaby in the flashback as she tries to block out the sound of her family falling apart. Then it’s back to Badlands and the screen goes black for a few seconds, and then she wakes up, curled on the brick portion of the attic, the wooden part burned away with the dollhouse practically unharmed next to her save for the smoke blown onto it. She sits up slowly, wipes soot form her eyes, and then gets to her feet and heads down the attic ladder, leaving the dollhouse, the plastic family still smiling beneath the soot. Then it’s back to Crybaby as Badlands leaves, and she’s in the spot Badlands just stood up from, still curled up with her eyes closed, her ears covered and her knees under her chin. The video ends focused on the melted, twisted remains of the lighter that Badlands left in the remains of her childhood house.

So I've been an obsessed crybaby for a while now then I found out about Halsey and she is like the other Melanie Martinez so I love them both obviously but then I heard about them hating each other or something? Not sure if it's true but know I must choose one. Someone please tell me that the hating each other thing is a lie.
They had an argument on twitter about something or other.

I have a different theory between the two people. Unlike the story where they’re both sisters, what if BADLANDS was the mother in Dollhouse? Crybaby would be the daughter, and it could be her trying to talk to her mother, who’s trapped in this world of alcohol and depression.
The gasoline could be all the alcohol she’s consuming, and her describing about what’s wrong with her could be her thinking she’s not good enough, driving her to near insanity, and that’s why her husband is cheating on her and her son is smoking pot.
Meanwhile, in one of the few times she finds her mother not passed out on the couch, Crybaby tries to talk to her mother, telling her everything that everyone’s saying and her own observations around her home.
But BADLANDS refuses to listen, choosing instead to focus on her own problems while unknowingly describing some of the things that are going through her head to her daughter.
In the end, both mother and daughter are broken even further apart and their house has even more tension than before.
My theory: they’re each other, talking to themselves. Like, they’re their own hallucination/imaginary friend. Crybaby is the little girl, growing up with an abusive family, going out alone and talking to her imaginary friend, Badlands, who shows her how to pour gasoline over stuff and light it on fire (‘lighting matches just to swallow up the flame’) and the burning is what makes her feel alive, making her grow into Badlands herself. Seeking comfort in the memory of her younger, more innocent self, Badlands conjures an idea of Crybaby Badlands as a little girl, and this is what makes her appear ‘deranged’ and ‘insane’. She doesn’t see the poetry in her looking for innocence by creating an imaginary friend, and really she’s still just a little kid inside (‘my heart is gold’). I don’t really know about this next bit, but isn’t plastic made from gasoline (I think gasoline is the American version of petrol)? And Badlands is looking for similarities with her past self (‘do you... like me?’ ‘are you... like me?’) to anchor her back to the world she’s falling away from, but ends up tormenting herself with memories of the abuse, ‘you’re part of a machine, you are not a human being’, until the voices won’t leave her alone, the same voices of the things she sees that nobody else sees (in that they’re secret from anyone outside the house, but no one else sees what’s going on inside her head), driving her insane. Crybaby is just looking for guidance and for someone who cares about her (‘no one ever listens’). The ‘throw on your dress and put on your doll faces’ and ‘smile for the picture’ is ‘face all made up, living on a screen’. ‘Open your walls’ is Badlands’ encouragement for Crybaby to open up like she knows she wants to because she used to have those fantasies of other people learning what went on in the dollhouse (‘one day they’ll see what goes down in the kitchen’), but she’s just telling herself, and imagining that she managed to tell someone else will never be able to undo what happened to Badlands.
Okay okay okay, hear me out: a music video of this mashup, and at “your son is smoking cannabis” it shows Crybaby watch her brother light a cigarette with a lighter and drop it on a table in front of her, not even noticing her. She pickets it silently. Then it’s her and Badlands walking along talking to teach other - their past/future selves and their imaginary friend, like I said in my last comment. Then it shows ‘filler video’, incidents mentioned in the songs about each of Crybaby and Badlands, then Badlands on her own, pouring gasoline over something and setting it on fire with that same lighter, then more filler, then Crybaby standing in a corner alone, with the lighter in the palm of her hand, just looking at it. Then more filler, but this time it’s of them walking, both together, to a destination, we don’t know yet. More filler incidents. Then it’s at Crybaby’s house, we recognise it from the filler video, but it’s in Badlands’ time, and it’s abandoned. Parts of it are made of brick and parts are wood. This is important for later. As Badlands pushes the front door open, it’s just her, then there’s a flashback of Crybaby coming home from school or something, and she pushes the door open too. Then it’s Badlands moving through the house, up stairs, and as she passes different parts of it it shows things that happened here, happened to Crybaby, and it shows Crybaby walking past those parts too. Then Badlands enters the attic, empty except for the dollhouse at one end, the half where the walls and floor are made of brick. It shows Crybaby doing the same thing, the attic looks practically identical for her. Then, still in flashback/forward shots, they both kneel on the bricks in front of the dollhouse, the lighter falls out of their pocket, they don’t pay any attention to it. The dolls are lined up at the open face of the dollhouse, Crybaby/Badlands, her mother, her father and her brother, all smiling. They both reach over to touch the Crybaby doll, and then their is a sound from downstairs in Crybaby’s flashback and they both turn, even though nothing happened in Badlands’ flash forward. They both reach for the lighter that fell out of their pocket, and light it, but then they do different things. Crybaby stares at the flame for a few seconds, then lets it go out and slips it back into her pocket. Badlands does the same, then stands up and picks up the can of gasoline, turning towards the other part of the attic to reach it and pouring it over the floor in front of her. Then she pulls the lighter from her pocket. In the flashback, Crybaby sits with her knees curled against her chest and her hands over her ears, and in the flash forward Badlands sits on the bricks in front of the dollhouse in the same position, with one hand hugging her knees and one holding the lighter outstretched over the gasoline. She lights and drops it, and then sits with her hands over her ears as the flames catch and smoke starts to fill the attic, the same as Crybaby in the flashback as she tries to block out the sound of her family falling apart. Then it’s back to Badlands and the screen goes black for a few seconds, and then she wakes up, curled on the brick portion of the attic, the wooden part burned away with the dollhouse practically unharmed next to her save for the smoke blown onto it. She sits up slowly, wipes soot form her eyes, and then gets to her feet and heads down the attic ladder, leaving the dollhouse, the plastic family still smiling beneath the soot. Then it’s back to Crybaby as Badlands leaves, and she’s in the spot Badlands just stood up from, still curled up with her eyes closed, her ears covered and her knees under her chin. The video ends focused on the melted, twisted remains of the lighter that Badlands left in the remains of her childhood house.
