  • Yet more unexpected finds during a winter forage. The biggest Porcini weighed in at approximately 800 gram, still not the 1kg+ that we've been looking for, but it is still amazing!
Also in this video, Zoe found the motherload of Wood Blewits (Lepista Nuda), with one being bigger than my hand.
Adding to the theme of huge mushrooms, we also found a couple of monster saffron milk caps (Lactarius deliciousus).

They are, but they took hours to find. Very strange season.

I found another two Friday morning weighing in at 820 gms. I think the weather has played a big part of it. Just curious as you have more experience in foraging.

@@louielovesfood8741 wow that's amazing. Well done. Yes definitely the weather plays a big role. Usually when the frost hits, the porcinis disappear. I don't think the frost has arrived yet, but I'm struggling to find them in recent days. Hopefully with the spring like weather, they might appear again.

Do they reappear in spring time?

@@louielovesfood8741 I really hope so. In my experience, the porcini needs a cold snap, rain and sunshine, hence spring might be possible. I have found them in summer when there was a couple of cold nights and lots of rain. But the quality of the porcini weren't great in summer.
