I think one of the most interesting details that Brad threw in with his character is that death is slightly awkward speaking with the living but more eloquent with those close to dying.
Nice observation!
I always like the idea that Death isn’t good or evil. Not one to judge a person life or punish for it. A guide for souls to embark on their next journey.
Just like Death in many of Sir Terry Pratchetts books.
But the one in Puss in Boots was really well done
@@stealth42blade He was the same. Just irritated with Puss for constantly insulting him.
@@colinmoore7460 When I die if I am not greeted by Death (or at least Susan if she is covering the Duty) then I shall be sorely disappointed.
GNU Terry Pratchett
The hearafter, is pain no more. The judgements come on earth. Have you ever noticed, when a person lives a life well lived. That person's legacy is thought of as he was almost an angel. Its the story that lives on not the ending.
Brad Pitt does such a good job in this role. Even when he is being calm and comforting, he always maintains those piercing eyes you'd expect from a reaper
“Sir, the first rule of Project Mayhem is that you do not ask questions”.
I was younger when I watched this, it's been years. Watching this clip made me realize that I missed what was happening. He said he couldn't ease her pain and he didn't. Not physically anyway. But not all pain is physical. He showed her what was to come. He brought her peace and eased her fear. Kind of want to rewatch this and see what else I missed.
I need to rewatch too
i just watched it and id say its definitely worth it.
The way she pleads with death breaks my heart
This scene is so memorable and heartfelt
Arryting gwarn be irie
Even the angel of death pains at the pain of others and of love and mercy for them submits to humility and self sacrifice to even at the least make pain less... 🖤🥀
What can the harvest hope for if not for the care of the reaper man?
:)
@@ivanpfreely8628You have said well, healer.
I love stories where the angels of death, satan, and more are human. They are either human, or as shown an angel, but clearly not the same as other angels.
You ever seen the adventures of Tom Sawyer depiction of Satan?
they take form as human, that's not them
@@ItsAceB respectfully, no shit? That's not the point.
You should read the book thief, the narrator is Death and there are so many amazing lines in that novel.
@@TaxFraudTutorialsJesus is lord Satan can suck Ds
Brad pitt and anthony hopkins got an mtv award for one of their scenes lol. This was a good movie for sure
It deserved way more..but didn't go over and they thought it was too long. Certainly not too long to stare at Brad.
Saw these clips in my recommended over and over. Watched the movie. Easily way better than I expected.
“Be sorry for nothing” now what can be more gracious than that?
See, death ain't a bad guy. Death in the Sims however...👀.
there are many depictions of death where they are the absolute opposite of what the mainstream media tends use when choosing to "personify" it. In "Sandman" she's a kind and gentle woman, in "Discworld" he's a light hearted and low-key goofy but otherwise relatable old spirit. I love it when authors do these kinds of things, it gives more meaning to the whole process of death and grief itself.
Love that he also played gentle death in his youth in twilight zone
Brad Pitt was never in The Twilight Zone, Robert Redford played Death in a 1962 episode of the Twilight Zone called Nothing In The Dark, this was a year before Pitt was born.
I love rewatching this great movie. And everytime I see it I just can't believe how he is/ was the most beautiful man I've ever seen in my life. He's just perfection. Quince kills me, he's funny.
Quince is the most wholesome idiots i've seen in a movie
The way he got the patois down for this scene ❤
Stop it q
😂
I gotta say, his extremely collected and careful demeanor plus the accent plus his look: kind of a turn on.
As a straight male, Brad makes me understand why some men are gay
Down bad, that's death
SAME SAME SAME SAME SAME SAME SAME SAME SAME
Nobody cares.
I'm not sure if it was intentional but it's fun to watch Brad's face twitch and focus. It's a subtle nod to how everyone perceives death differently but in the end it's the same entity. He's able to become the most comfortable form to whom he is speaking.
Will someone please call her name: Lois Kelly Miller. Brilliant.
Fully agree. She made you feel her pain and yearning so well. Brad's performance is striking because we know he does not speak with that accent. But she gave this scene the human intensity. That is what we all feel.
Oh! Such beauty and tenderness.
I like this scene but its missing the best part-the part where she recognizes him right away and then he breaks out in patois. It took me by surprise when I watched it, I didn't expect the movie to include this.
You can't take away another's pain without feeling it.
Don't try this at home, or anywhere else for that matter 🙄
Maybe the most beautiful movie ever made?
Hmm. I hope Death looks exactly like Brad Pitt in this movie :).
E um obia man!
I have always held that Death is just someone who walks someone into death cause at least your not alone while you are
gives her a small taste of the hereafter then a comforting soon to let her know her time is close, perhaps to give her the strength to tough it out knowing what she has to look forward to.
Awesome
Love this movie
Name of movie
Anyone knows the name of the soundtrack that starts playing at 1:40?
It's just part of the original soundtrack written for the movie. There are various "melodies" that are connected to various themes. I would call this one the Joe Black Angel of Death melody. There is a beautiful melody each time Susan and Joe are getting to know each other and falling in love - heard gently for the first time as they part at the coffee shop, and swelling to full orchestra as they walk away from each other. The music written for this movie is a real gem.
Imagine having the literal Grim Reaper fall in love with you...
Death in the form of Brad Pitt walks into your relationship and takes an interest You better be one hell of a husband and/or have one hell of a wife...
This kinda reminds me of *scp 4999* "someone to watch over us"
It make me cry every time
Not now...❤😉
Not a good movie but Brad's scenes with the Jamaican woman were the best part of the movie and quite moving
Wait I saw this on tiktok thought it was a voice over but its real
I was close with ms.jackson before and after her fall I told her she had many years left she cried.
King Nas.
movie name?
Meet Joe black
When my dad was dying the last few days he would talk about a man standing there in the room and he didn't like the way he looked at my mother..
This scene really gets me, especially when you know the back story about what Brad Pitt did for the actress in the scene...
What was the backstory?
explain plz
Thumbs down for throwing out a teaser and never following up.
@@simon7927 Sorry, I thought folks would Google it... When Brad met the actress who played the elder lady, he went and learned how to speak to her properly... He took the time to learn her language and vernacular, without ever telling her... She was so stunned and thrilled when he came back and began to speak to her in her language...
What did he say to that patient?
Wheres the tiktok music??
🌅
If Only, I could heal, All The People of The World.
Magnificent movie. She is gorgeous
Can anyone please explain this scene, I always seen it but don’t understand it
He's Death ,and she (The older lady)can tell he's something otherworldly,so she's basically dying and in pain,so she asks him to take her to the after life to ease the pain but he says it's not her time yet so he takes the pain away so it's easier for her.
It's a long movie, but I recommend watching it. They don't make movies like this anymore.
@@foreverhose678 thank you!!
He didn't take her pain away, he showed her what's waiting on the next place so she knows the pain is worth what's to come
Obeah❔
Obeah, bad spirit, evil spirit
This movie really mortalizes Azrael The True Grim Reaper that He TOO has a compassionate side of being an archangel and Servant of GOD Our Father!
Apart from tales from an old cult, there is no proof of this sky daddy you talk about. Keep giving him your money, though. His disciples seem to be really bad with it.
I definitely will never watch this movie again. I'll delete it from my Amazon movies I own. Total stupidity, drawn out, and boring. I thought it was going to be a horror movie when I saw the trailer of the hospital scene. I expected more from Brad Pitt and Anthony Hopkins.
Especially at the end when the soul of the guy from the coffee shop is back in the body after getting hit twice in the street!
Yea well..thats like your opinion man 😎
What idiot would think this was a horror movie from the trailer besides an absolute dimwit
Weird because this movie was better than 99% of any movies today. This was a quiet masterpiece. When you get older, you may find it more impactful.
Death is almost always companionate. A mercy to most when you look at it from the proper perspective.
So did he take the pain and feel it for himself or hold it somehow?
I think he gave her a sneak peek of the next place, since he knew her time was soon
Edit: when he releases her hand, you hear him whisper ‘Soon’
