also if chase's legal team is found culpable they could be looking at disbarment and jail time (under conspiracy to defraud). It sadly wont go that far but it should. Likely will end up in settlement with the box owner and at best sanctions for the legal team if its proved they purposely withheld during discovery.
Sadly, police officers across the country use civil asset forfeiture every day to steal peoples money without charging them for a crime or involving the courts

What Chase did was obvious deceit by not disclosing during the initial lawsuit that they accidentally sent her belongings to the State believing that her safe deposit box was abandoned. All because of a clerical error!!! The issue was resolved but not without bounced checks and chaos.
The cash in the box was never deposited into the owner's bank account, which is insured up to $250,000(?). We need to read the fine print in the safety deposit box contract before deciding to put our valuables in one.
JP Morgan sells paper contracts for silver without having the physical silver to back up the contracts. That's manipulating the the market to keep silver price where they and the industrial companies need it be.
JP Morgan got caught manipulating the precious metals market between 2008-2016 and payed a 920 million fine (I'm sure they made billions off of the manipulation).DO NOT trust banks!
I have been back and forth on getting a few safety deposit boxes; also, there have been previous cases where somehow items from people's boxes completely disappear or wind up in someone elses's box. Just doesn't sound that safe to me. Also, you only have access when the bank is open; worst case scenario what if the bank goes under and closes their doors? I know I might sound paranoid, but it has happened.
I definitely wouldn’t use them after hearing this. You’d be better off spending a few hundred bucks on a fire/waterproof lock box, get the items insured, and finding a really good hiding place for it in your home maybe with a hidden security camera pointed at it if it’s really valuable in my opinion, at least then it’s in your control and you can keep an eye on it
I work for a bank, and when they open deposit boxes, they sign a contract stating that they can't store anthing worth more than $10,000 dollars worth of value, among other stipulations. If they do, and something happens, the bank is not liable for it. Even if it's the banks fault.

Which bank? It’s so sad and scary how reckless and incompetent these banks can be with people’s belongings. A simple phone call, email, or letter to the deposit box owner to confirm is too easy smh

I think you mean if the bank claimed the box was abandoned how can she get notice and dispute it. Banks will do whatever they want.

But you also cannot live your life without trusting anyone 🤔
I would love to believe what you said, but I can't trust you.
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. I’m disabled from an accident. My mother and stepfather literally got into my bank account in our little town and stole every red cent. My OWN parents!!! Yeah, you can’t trust anyone.

I am so glad that I saw this. I am going to Chase tomorrow morning and closing all of my accounts with them.
I went into my local BOA and got a safe deposit box. I asked the manager is there anyway someone can come in and steal it? She laughed at me and said, “like a bank robbery in a movie?” No, like the feds coming in seizing your priceless items. The government can even take your land if they want to through eminent domain.

Crazy how things come full circle. And this lady should get a million in damages from chase .
also if chase's legal team is found culpable they could be looking at disbarment and jail time (under conspiracy to defraud). It sadly wont go that far but it should. Likely will end up in settlement with the box owner and at best sanctions for the legal team if its proved they purposely withheld during discovery.
This is criminal

I currently bank at Chase but after hearing Jenny Morsch's story towards the end, I'm seriously considering closing my account. What Chase did was obvious deceit by not disclosing during the initial lawsuit that they accidentally sent her belongings to the State believing that her safe deposit box was abandoned. They were hoping for a "he said / she said" type of argument which worked since the initial case was dismissed by the judge and of course Chase had their fancy expensive lawyers to back them up on this.
I’m not sure how anybody is hating on Chase when it seems pretty obvious this is a paperwork issue. Have they realize they sent the stuff to the state has abandoned property everything could’ve been reversed instead Chase had to pay Legal bills and risk more damage. Including going on the news back then and everything.
And also noticed that any employee could’ve stolen the items and this woman never would’ve got them back. But instead she got everything back, because of both luck and because the Chase employees were honest. A mistake is not the same thing as dishonesty.
I feel like this is a symptom of people not registering nuance. They just watch this video, and since something bad happened their brain looks at it as a completely black or white situation, instead of looking at the nuance.c
@@iMatti00 she didn't get everything back.
@@iMatti00 no. The chase employees were not honest. they had paperwork showing that they made that mistake in 2012, and instead, in court, they claimed that they did not, and that Genney was lying and her box was empty and she was trying to sue Chase for personal gain/was trying to dupe them. The AUCTION HOUSE told the truth. THEN Chase magically found that paperwork.

What is even more disheartening and disgusting is the said judge dismissing the case.

As a Chase customer, this just convinced me to never get a Chase safe deposit box. Its one thing to make a mistake, its another thing to try and cover it up to screw over your customers.
trusting your money, belongings or data to another person or company is always very risky.

If you search Steve Lehto safety deposit, he is a lawyer who has been keeping track of that case.
This tells you everything you need to know about Chase Bank.
Most large banks, at least.
I closed my Chase account this last year and moved to a local credit union. Best decision ever. No fees and my money is finally growing
Banks and the Guv'mint can do whatever they want. I once had five grand in cash taken from me when I was going through the airport on a trip to Vegas. No reason was given, no crime was committed, no investigation was being done. They just saw the cash and wanted it. It took me 18 months to get less than half of it back and my Vegas trip was ruined because that was all of my playing money.
That’s awful! 😮
I saw on line that this is a common police ( maybe fbi) practice of stealing money from honest citizens at airports.
You should have used travelers checks.
This happens all the time.
@@arfriedman4577 Probably. But I was ignorant back then and didn't think that my own government would rob me.

It's sad when you can't even trust your bank anymore, because it's obvious that wasn't a mistake it was negligence . Chase will settle because the longer the story hangs around it doesn't look good for Chase and their reputation.
Banks were never truth worthy, we were just gullible.
Chase denying any wrongdoing after they clearly handed over her property to the state as unclaimed...that's more disgusting than the mistake itself. Chase slowly turning into Wells Fargo.

Definitely can’t trust Chase no more that’s a fact!!!
I used to trust the government. The last three years have opened my eyes wide.
Oh man .. I'm more angry at the judge who threw out the case in the first place. Judge should've ordered the documentation before making rash decision ...
Glad Jenny got her stuff back! But how many people didn’t?!
No FDIC for the missing cash?
Somebody needs to go to jail.
This is an inside job.
Smh
The FDIC covers deposits in accounts only. I don't trust American banks. I was executor of my mother's estate after she passed away and the bank suddenly closed out the account just before distribution to the heirs and sent out a check for hundreds of thousands of dollars to the "estate" at my brother's address. All because of a clerical error!!! The issue was resolved but not without bounced checks and chaos.
The cash in the box was never deposited into the owner's bank account, which is insured up to $250,000(?). We need to read the fine print in the safety deposit box contract before deciding to put our valuables in one.
FDIC is for your bank account, not your safe deposit box.
So much corruption. Dispicable and Disgraceful
This says a lot about how much we can trust the banks we currently use!
JP Morgan sells paper contracts for silver without having the physical silver to back up the contracts. That's manipulating the the market to keep silver price where they and the industrial companies need it be.
The whole money thing is a scam! BTC!!!
JP Morgan got caught manipulating the precious metals market between 2008-2016 and payed a 920 million fine (I'm sure they made billions off of the manipulation).DO NOT trust banks!
Chase needs to triple check everything before sending valuable content to the state!
If you don't hold it, you don't own it
Possession nine tenths of the law..good or bad
Luckily, OP isn't correct, or lady would have never gotten her stuff back...
I use the Chase in Bellevue TN, and I might just hold off on storing my priceless items there.
You’d be better off spending a few hundred bucks on a fire/waterproof lock box, get the items insured, and finding a really good hiding place for it in your home maybe with a hidden security camera pointed at it if it’s really valuable in my opinion, at least then it’s in your control and you can keep an eye on it
Just go to Franklin lol much safer
They got touched by the greediest hand of all.. im glad they got some back dispite all the scheming
I work for a bank, and when they open deposit boxes, they sign a contract stating that they can't store anthing worth more than $10,000 dollars worth of value, among other stipulations. If they do, and something happens, the bank is not liable for it. Even if it's the banks fault.
So what's the point of having a safe place to store your valuables if you can't actually store any valuables in it??
Is that per box? Or total?
until you sue them lol because they dont want the media attention.
Dont give up Jenny keep sueing them.
like others say, person suffered and had to deal with so much trauma, meanwhile company has 0 guilt and denies doing anything wrong and avoids punishment.
