Great question! It ended up fitting really well so it didn't need any extra securing-- just sits in with gravity. But if it was loose I was planning to use some glue, either 2-component or hot glue even would work. As long as the light bulb is energy efficient (not producing a lot of heat) like an LED it should be fine to use glue.
Okay, there's a lot going on here and I love nearly all of it - the beautiful swirling waves, the cloaked figures swimming, the people with cute little wings flying above those beautiful poofy clouds, the skeleton dogs... but I think my absolute favourite is the upside-down stick figures. There's just something about them that's so charming, floating there in their ring of people alongside the right-side-up stick figures who are also very cute but less whimsically delightful.
We can make it work has been my entire philosophy with pottery! followed closely by ope.....oh well. I love how your lamp turned out and I agree the shade can make or break the project.
This is my favorite piece you've ever made! The design turned out so pretty. I love the warm glow from the lamp shade contrasted with the stark, rich black. I also love the somewhat humanoid shape of the lamp itself! 😄 Truly beautiful work
I saw someone using the same blender as you did and created the same mess. If you get a paper plate and cut two small holes in, then put the mixing blades in the plate should cut down on the splashing.
Love the "trust the process" in this video Even though I saw (and was excited by the sgraffito) card...when you talked about the shade, I got excited that you were going to make a ceramic shade...
I love the lamp! I also love your care-free fly by the seat of your pants (but also I’m sure there’s a lot of hands-on education guiding you) outlook. It is so different from my outlook and I love to see it. 😊
Beautiful lamp base but I feel the shade is to low and is hiding the top of your beautiful lamp base, if you look at table lamps the bottom of the shade is level with the bottom of the lampholder and the lamp base is fully visible.
Such a beautiful lamp. My only critique is that the shade hides your beautiful sgraffito work on the upper portion of your base. Thank you for sharing. I think I'll put that on my project list.
I love the middle “Throwdown” challenge for the last episode this season which was the giant scrafitto ball, so great to see this combination between that and the lamp challenge (you’re right about that shade, the pervious season had a much better version with a sculpture that had to hold a large bare bulb). They’re mostly very technical skill based but sometimes those little mid episode challenges have some really fun ideas in them.
Eeeeeeeee! I love it I love it I love it!!! I literally squealed when you took it out of the kiln with great joy!! And seeing your eyes glowing with excitement and joy is as special as the lamp! You are so encouraging me to start my own pottery youtube channel-I am a potter as well. But I am not as spontaneous as you- I would scratch and itch and change my mind a million times before I put the clay onto the wheel lollll Enjoy your beautiful creation!!
You can do it! It's not so hard :) My first videos are pretty terrible haha confidence also comes with time and comments like this really help me to be decisive!
Its beautiful! You made a great job imo, i agree that a longer "neck" for the shade would help show off the beautiful base, but its an easy fix if you choose to do that ! It's so cool and cute anyway 🌞
Thanks for sharing. I agree with previous comment. If you extended the neck piece of the fitting you would see more of your beautiful lamp base and it deserves to be seen. Thank you for being inspirational 🤗🌈
Hi Mia! Thanks to your video, I finally had the inspiration and courage to make my lamp!! Waiting for the firing process to be done! But I’m so so stoked that I can do it!
Your lamp came out looking amazing! Bu the way, it helps to keep the mess to a minimum if you submerge the whisks into the mixture before you turn it on low.
This is so beautiful, but I have a question, after the bisque firing, the iron oxide became red , but after glazing and gloss firing it became black, I don’t understand the variation In color, what’s responsible for that ?
Amos seus vídeos de cerâmica! Ao ver seu talento e habilidades e transformar argila em arte dá vontade de tentar. Parabéns pelo seus vídeos, lhe desejo muito sucesso! 🇧🇷
Dusting those lamp shades is a pain, the main reason I like the barrels, although I tend to be more minimalist, regardless, your lamp base looks really good!!
Wonderful lamp, great job! What about making a washing basin ;-)? I want to make a small one, but I am insecure about the hole for the syphon. When the clay shrinks, doesn‘t the hole become wider , as the clay shrinks „away“ from the hole? Because you say in the video the hole becomes less wide after shrinkage (16‘20“)…?
Beautiful work 🤗 can you share how you secured the cord and socket to the base? And where to buy the socket and cord you used 👀

I, also, would like to know where you purchased the electrical pieces, socket, etc. Thanks!@@PotterytothePeople
@@pottery59I think a hardware store and even on Amazon.
What I admire about you, is thatbyou are selftaught! You are so creative! ❤❤❤

you get me!
Oh my gosh, this came out so pretty!! The transformation from the bisque to the gloss fire was so cool to see.
Thank you! It never gets old :)
Yes, that’s exactly how I feel about drum shades on every lamp. It’s not always becoming
I don't know what's m'y favorite thing in this video : the beautiful lamp OR your happy face at the end ! Great technic ! Thanks for sharing 👏
🥰🥰🥰
the final result turned out SOO cute ! i think the transparent glaze was a good choice, it looks so nice all glossy black like that

Yes!! Only editing this video I realized how much like a russian doll it looked! 😆 Totally unintentional. Thanks for watching!
I am obsessed with the texture on that lampshape
I saw someone using the same blender as you did and created the same mess. If you get a paper plate and cut two small holes in, then put the mixing blades in the plate should cut down on the splashing.
good job!! found ur channel last night, thinking about going to a walk-in pottery studio sometime mow, lol

This is only my second video of yours, but I'm so enraptured. I love your positivity and this lamp is delightful. Thankyou for sharing
Absolutely fabulous! When an artist carves stick figures i get a little nervous, but it is really cool over all.❤
I love it! and I enjoy your fly by the seat of your pants approach. another winner! thanks!
Beautiful lamp base but I feel the shade is to low and is hiding the top of your beautiful lamp base, if you look at table lamps the bottom of the shade is level with the bottom of the lampholder and the lamp base is fully visible.
Yes I agree! Didn't plan for that. 🙃
@@PotterytothePeople awesome 👍 ... I love your sgraffito artwork such beautiful story telling imagery 👌
@@PotterytothePeople look for a harp style fixture. They lift the shade up off the base nicely!

yes that's true! I didn't plan for that. Glad you enjoyed it!
@PotterytothePeople It's hard to gauge everything.
I love the lamp. I agree to move up the shade. I would also paint the shade to match the white in the lamp.
This lamp is so charming! It turned out great. Have you done a video on slip trailing? I'd like to try that. Thanks so much for making these videos!

saw it drying in the crazy tea set episode and went wow. its so pretty and its nice to know what it was for.
I love lamps and I love to make lamps. Yes, I agree, often the shades don't fit to the base, but I like this lamp very much. 👏👏👏👏👍
thank you!! I think I am now addicted to making lamps haha
Thank you for sharing your studio ceramic pieces! Love how this inspires memories and makes me want to do more ceramic work!

That lamp is just beautiful. I love the process and you bringing us along. You have such a creative mind.
Really awesome!
thanks! It was fun to make :)
It's a WINNER !!!
Great design idea. Sort of Medieval or Lord of the Rings-ical or Aboriginal metaphysical.

it's quite a doable project! Thanks for watching!

This was a delightful video, I really enjoy seeing your whole process including the final fired piece. Thank you!
Super cute! I think the lampshade is a bit too low though, it's hiding some of the design!
Beautiful!!! The design is so unique
Super cute!
What an Awesome Lamp. Tip to remember, put the slip on thick. :)
beautiful, loveeeee all your videos thank you so much for it all !!!!!
Very nice lamp, could you please give me links to the electronic stuff, cables etc.? Regards from Poland 😊❤❤❤❤❤❤

Thank you!

totally!
Is the glaze what turned the iron back to black? Confused as to how it went from black to red and then black again in oxidation.
Fantastic,beatiful
Hi Mia - new sub here. Loving your videos, thanks for being an inspiration.
thanks for watching!!
this is so cute! it reminds me of Maui's tattoos in Moana
Fantastic

So beautiful

hmmm, I wonder if montmorillionite (bentonite clay) clay could make a decent fired product, its dielectric constant is pretty high apparently.
I love it!
Looks very nice 🎉
im really happy with your lamp... lol
The black came out nice! Looks like you have a little manganese in your black iron oxide. 😉 1:33
I just had to double-check, it's Fe^3 O^4 so no manganese but I was also surprised how dark it came out.
@@PotterytothePeople I wonder if the glaze creates a reduced environment. Anyway, looks great! It's an attractive piece.
