    Looks like the Reti/Zuckertort is for advanced players. It allows a mind boggling number of good choices for both sides.

    • @TheChessGiant
      @TheChessGiant  ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Yes!! Very complex and prophylactic system better suit for advanced players that want to play slow moves with flexibility opposed to fast but forced.

      @@TheChessGiant I wouldn't call reti "complex" when there are some openings such as sicilian, ruy lopez, french etc.

      I mean, to be fair, 1 e4 and 1 d4 can also be said to allow a mind boggling number of good choices for both sides. Many of which 1 Nf3 can transpose into. Double King Pawn, Sicilian, Queen's Gambit positions, Indian positions, even English positions as well, etc.

    • @walterbrownstone8017
      @walterbrownstone8017 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@philiproy1781 Yeah I guess your right. I've decided it's just a d4 opening in disguise. Which still means it's super complex.

    • @walterbrownstone8017

      @@philiproy1781 You know what? I've decided it's actually a 1.e4 opening in disguise. But wait I found good lines with the Reti/Zuckertort with both d4 and e4 openings. That's a mind boggling number of openings plus a mind boggling number of e4 openings. That's almost like all of d4 and all of e4 combined into one move! Oh wait, I already knew that but I forgot. But I remembered after I read my original post again.

    fun opening that I think will be in the style of the channel is the Norwegian defense. I am sure the viewers who plays the modern defense will enjoy a video on this opening to add to their arsenal

    Yet another solid video, Giant. I usually respond to the Zuckertort with the Pirc invitation, but I'm an oddball

      Thanks J Dub! And nice, you and I think very similarly, I sometimes play d6 against d4 inviting a Pirc, or even b6 inviting an Owen's Defense.

    I’m at 1500 using exclusively reti and wow I want to play other openings I just love the variations.
    I often find myself running into pawn runners and a select line or 2 that ends up trapping my rook or losing my f pawn.
    Anyway I thought it was high time I looked more into the method behind the madness. I am also trying to figure out if the gambit is better than just the Fianchetto and develop
    I feel like the gambit does help develop as usually I open my bishop line and The only moves to defend the pond leave other spots in precarious position
    I think the only reason I prefer the fianchetto is because it is so aesthetically pleasing lol

    • @TheChessGiant
      @TheChessGiant  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! Thanks for sharing! That's great you're playing this Reti Opening exclusively. And ya the fianchetto is very aesthetically pleasing - much of playing good chess is playing something you like. Is the Ruy Lopez a good opening? Yes. Do I like playing it or find the positions nice for white? Not at all. So I don't play it. You should play what YOU like and it sounds like you're doing that! (Not to mention that the Reti with g3 is simply a great opening anyways)

      If you like the reti, check out the modern benoni for black. Lots of similar ideas!

  • @stoutlager6325

    There is another decent option against d5 not mentioned in the video. It's 2.e3. The point being that it prevents the advance variation of the Reti gambit. I hate the advance variation and switched over to this pretty quickly after starting 1.Nf3. Black can persist with pushing d4 but you just take with exd4 (taking with knight is not as good as it loses a tempo to e5). It will give you doubled pawns in exchange but in this case it isn't a liability. You can give that pawn back at leisure if needed, white is still +2 right away.

    • @TheChessGiant
      @TheChessGiant  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for sharing these great thoughts! Ya 2. e3 seems like a really good option with some good ideas.

    I though the Zukertort line is when White plays the Q-side fianchetto with d4?
    I'll watch the video again sometime, but I don't remember seeing any lines which involve the Q-side fianchetto... Just the brief mention with no content in the first few minutes.

    • @TheChessGiant
      @TheChessGiant  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Tony, yes this is another line in which the term Zukertort is used! However, if you go to the Lichess Database, they have 1. Nf3 as the Zukertort Opening while Chess.com has it as the Reti Opening. I've also heard players call it one or the other. Interesting to say the least. I myself have always referred to 1. Nf3 as the Reti though.

    • @spidermonkey7280
      @spidermonkey7280 2 ปีที่แล้ว
