It began to rain as I rode my Surly Bridge Club bicycle down a gravel section. I pulled out the One Wind rain cape/shelter and put it on, zippered it up, put the hood up over my bike helmet, and threw the front of the cape up over my handlebars. It formed an umbrella over my hands, arms, legs, feet, and body, to keep me completely dry. What an ultralight, compact, shelter system; perfect!
The fact that this is perfect for a cowboy bedroll is why I'm buying one with the mesh tent. I don't normally carry my roll, so now I'll have a reason to! Thank you, sir!
it fits a cowboy bed roll really well
"Lava loo" is Lavvu for anyone wondering. It's designed to be a 2 person 2 piece rain cape shelter.
Looks like a great piece of kit very versatile many uses giving me some really good ideas thank you
Hi Blackie, greeting from Australia 🇦🇺. Thank you for your time to make these videos, wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas and a happy new year.
Same to you!
i hope this video answers your questions thanks for watching
Love that new artwork on your cover pages
Thanks so much!
You could run a ridgeline between to trees and suspend the peak from the ridgeline. I could also see covering the front with a sheet of clear plastic
And building a fire in front to make a super shelter of sorts.
Hello Blakie the in depth of poncho is very important I highly appreciate thank you very much stay safe outdoors God bless you always
You bet
Good review Blackie , thanks for sharing YAH bless !
Much appreciated
I always tie that loop after the lock slide .. never knew it as called the be sure knot ,, I like that
its great just ordered mine thanks Blackie cant wait to get it thanks for great videos
Have fun!
I like it cause it covers up a woodsmans hat, excellent, no other poncho will do that, I'm sold. Price point ? Thx for the vid Blackie
around 40 bucks
That's really nice, Blackie. And for $40 or so, don't see how you could go wrong. Thanks for the review!
glad to do it
This thing is neat!! Thanks for showing it.
You bet!
Leave it to Old Blackie to always find the best stuff. This guy cost me more money than any other channel. I went to their website and I could not find this particular product they do have a little teepee tent very much like it that I believe is about 44 bucks. But you have to pay extra for the screen mesh inner layer. And in Oklahoma you're definitely going to want that. I had actually thought about getting a medieval cloak and either treating it with linseed oil to have something very similar. The only advantage of that would be that it would actually be warmer when you wear it but it would also be a lot heavier too so that's definitely a consideration. This one has all the fixings. I wouldn't mind having it however I wouldn't just wear it all the time my experience with ponchos has taught me that in the kind of woods I go into they're going to end up with all kinds of rips and tears.
But I do like cloaks a lot better than ponchos I just think all the viny thorns and trees with thorns that we have around my place would pretty much shred anything that thin but I still want to get one I just want to wear it all the time unless I'm setting somewhere Riding the Storm Out I would still rather use my old military Poncho for doing any kind of work in. Because I wouldn't want to tear a beauty like that up and I can always sew up a poncho or replace it fairly cheaply.
I also want to point out that they have a mesh screen for another tent for 24 bucks that would be perfect under a tarp instead of buying the tent that goes with that one. I'm looking real hard at getting that. We have so many flying pests here practically year-round. It has to really be damn cold for them not to be out pestering you and if you got a fire going chances are they're going to be coming up out of the ground and buzzing you anyway it's ridiculous
thank for watching
yeah Blackie and Dave canterbury lead me to spending and always wanting more gear lol
@@scottcatchot1598 not just that, even when it's the expensive stuff sometimes you can make it yourself and it works just as good. Gives it a more personal touch and saves you money.
Blackie is a great dude so is Dave
Bless you!, Gesundheit etc.
thank you
Very good review Blackie. The neck cinch looks like it would help keep in some, body heat.
I think so too
Great review! Way to "collab" with Dakota!
More to come!
@blackoracle69 sir, I love your vids!! I think some of it takes me back to my Grandpa and great uncs and the other is your practical application!
Very interesting thank you 😊
thanks for watching
Hello Blackie , I want to compliment you on your new video cover photos they're awesome. It's like it has a story of its own. Another FYI on this video , the Polish Lavvu is pronounced La-voo. Not Lavaloo like you said it. Just trying to be helpful.
LOL Thanks for correcting me my southern english gets in the way sometimes
I just bought this based on your two videos. I'm REALLY having to trust your link, there are virtually no videos for this one, only their actual poncho....and on the site I can't tell the difference between them, it makes no mention of it as a poncho, only a shelter. It SEEMS like what you're using, but far from a sure thing. I'm terrified I'll open a standard poncho....I want that deep hood and zip up feature, and all that coverage, I actually prefer not having arm openings and having to flip up and out. This will likely be my go to rain gear, TELL me your link was good🤣
This was an awesome review!!!
Glad you liked it!
On the website they put 2 of them together to form a real nice looking shelter 😊
i saw that looks good
If I were starting from scratch, 💯 I'd buy these. I've bought the one wind products and they are the ideal balance of budget, weight and quality. And their customer service is solid.
Unfortunately I have my kit set already so I'm gonna pass.
Bushcraft superhero cape ??? Have fun stay safe.
lol like that one
Mt man here 👍👍
awesome

I like it, a lot. Hey Blackie, could you update the Blackbird haversack and ruck run that was supposed to be sent out? Haven’t heard anything in a bit, thanks.
i spoke to jay and the haversacks are in route now and the rucks will ship to me this week i will ship as soon as they arrive so not too much longer very sorry for the delay.
@@BLACKIETHOMAS not a problem, thanks!!!
Love the art work. Are they generated from a program TH-cam provides?
i use a program that came on my computer
Any updates on this? Just got mine and won't be able to test it til next month.
Are the fasteners on the cords that go under your neck designed to break away?
i feel they will if it was going to choke hazzard i feel they will pop free first
@@BLACKIETHOMAS Thanks, that just sold another one. I like multipurpose gear like this.
@8:38 - Gesundheit!
thanks

How would a double hammock with the ends opened up and water proofed compare?
I'm wondering how that would work over a hammock ridgeline?
I'm interested to know myself
It wouldn't. well it could if it didn't rain. its too short as well. just get a ten ft by seven for a hammock.
yep too short for a hammock but i may be able to use it as a leanto for a low to the ground winter set HMM i will get back to ya on this
As an emergency shelter or cloak, I get it. as something to camp under I expect both your head and feet to touch the fabric and ruin your sleeping bag with condensation.
You could raise it off the ground by attaching guy lines or shock cord to the peg out points. but how sturdy are those?.
My two tentformers were a waste of time and money. untill I get a close up of the work quality I won't bother with it.
I do like the look of it mind.
One wind actually has a shelter system for like $80 or so that might be better for you. Blackie did a thing on it a while back; that where the foot print thing he mentions comes from. Very roomy and you can buy components individually, foot print, bug net and such if $80 is out of range atm. Also has a stout little magnet piece for pulling slack out of the middle of the tarp.
Anyway, i put it in the 3 sided leanto config and laid my grabber hotdog folded to simulate bed space, still had about a foot on either side (head/toe) and 6" front back before being our from under it without the "awning" setup.
Are you a supporter of the Boy Scouts of America? I noticed the patch.
i was a boy scout shooting sports director at a summer camp for a few years as well and being on roundtable community to help train scoutmasters.
Do you have a name and artist for the print in the thumbnail? Thanks!
he said it was made with a program that came with his computer
🇺🇸👍🇺🇸👍🇺🇸👍
To bad you did,t show zim up. I wanted seen is big at was up there in pa. The wind blow all over
Be cool if made a old army haft shelter out that
good point
@@BLACKIETHOMAS one wind make one like it I found it on there page. Not know if 2 or more can be linked together. Velcro should do fine. 2 under weight of one old canvas haft
Uhhh...not giving them the hanging device.
Hello
hi !
I wonder why all of Blackie’s AI generated thumbnails look like Santa gone wild? 😅
lol cause blackie is old and trying to learn new tricks to make thumbnails and he is not that good at it yet lol
@@BLACKIETHOMAS I should have mentioned it earlier, but I really like the newAI generated art style you’re using now. I really wasn’t interested in playing around with it myself. The way it has turned out changed my mind though. I just thought that it was very interesting that you’re getting a character that looks a lot like Old Saint Nick enjoying a well deserved summer vacation in the woods.
A Baker tent and a teepee love child! 😉
lol pretty close
