2 quick FYI's: This is not my debut on the channel, you tackled my "Caged by a Secret Killer" puzzle in early 2024 which was my debut and is what brought me to the channel originally :) Also, you typo'd my name in the title and part of the description 😅 Phoenix, not Pheonix. Glad you enjoyed! When I was designing this I was trying to ensure it stayed as an approachable 1/5 difficulty, and that it wouldn't requiring advanced coloring or lettering since it's not my strong suit. I'm more the type in XV puzzles to pencil mark all the V's as 1234 and then pencil mark the high digits of X's as 6789, which in this puzzle is enough to have the dutch whisper break-in be possible, and the white dot logic comes in a bit after (the intended logic with the white dot was somewhat avoided due to the coloring here). Hope you get to check out the other one I sent at some point, though it's definitely (in my opinion) the hardest of the 3 I've made so far (only 2/5 stars though). As for the hidden patterns as the title suggests, as others have already noted, there's a few to note. There's both horizontal (123, 456, and 789) and vertical (147, 258, 369) roping, also no digit appears in the same spot of each box, which I didn't include in rules as it was unnecessary for solving. For some behind-the-scenes, this only took basically 1 evening to construct because I knew I wanted the grid to have that pattern in it, so I typed that in, applied the full XV constraint, and only had to come up with the dutch whisper + white dot break-in after to bring it all together.
Woah! Sorry about that, the typo easy to fix. Getting the running order the wrong way around, sorry about that 😃 Awesome puzzle which now that I see the roping, I feel like I only half appreciated!
12:43 for me. I started off with a fair amount of pencil marking, but then thanks to the negative constraint I was able to finish it off pretty quickly. I didn't notice the roping until I read these comments and went back to look. Very clever by PhoenixAki. Fun puzzle!
Horizontal keypad roping. Vertical modulo keypad roping. Very fun pattern, got a bit stuck til i read the negative constraint rule. Really enjoyed this new setter thanks for featuring. 20:06 solution 1156, that is a large amount of solves, shows your surge in popularity Sleuth.
The solve count was around 700 when I checked it a day or two ago so I was pretty surprised when I opened it this morning to check it again and saw it had jumped to 1400 and that was actually how I found out it was featured here since I didn't have time to check my TH-cam subscriptions prior 😂 Glad you enjoyed and noticed the patterns! I was trying to have it be a sort of teaching puzzle to demonstrate how impactful negative constraints can be sometimes and to not forget them
@@phoenixaki3458 It was a lovely puzzle, thanks for setting it, I do tend to just dive in and often forget a negative constraint until I can't narrow down cell options:). you are right they can be very powerful.
The "Hidden Pattern" is roping, both horizontally & vertically, with Box 1 being the 1 - 9 keypad. So if that is the pattern PhoenixAki started with, and using a negative constraint, this could have been a relatively quick puzzle to design. I like the theme of "Hidden Pattern": it would be nice to see more Sudokus exploring that theme! Lovely construction!!
You're 100% right on "this could have been a relatively quizk puzzle to design", it really only took me 1 evening and some of the next day because I did indeed start with the grid patterned like that and found that applying XV then wasn't enough, so I stared at it a bit longer and came up with the dutch whisper + white dot break-in and it was done :)
That was one of my goals when creating this, I also get overwhelmed with lettering and wanted to ensure that even if you can solve it that way, that it wouldn't be necessary
18:42 Did not expect to use the Dutch Whisper line right off the bat as the puzzle break in. When I first looked at it I thought it would be a disambiguation I'd need towards the end.
Never noticed the roping until I had finished. I started with box 1, r1c1 had to be low and r3c3 had to be high. Only one sequence could work on that line.
Yup! Roping is (by my definition, at least) whenever there's 3 digits in a row/column of a box that appears the same way in other boxes in that row/column, so it forces 1x3 or 3x1 blocks to appear similarly in those other boxes, almost like a rope with a few kinks in it going down the grid. Horizontal roping across the 1-9 keys and vertical roping across the numpad key ordering
In my usual impatient rush I didn't read the rules properly and treated the diagonal as a renban (making it 4-5-6). Logically it still solves of course (but with the numbers reversed 4 becomes a 1, 3 a 2, 7 an 8 etc.) and then I was wondering why I didn't get the 'Congrats' pop-up. Always read the rules children, always read the rules!!

4:51. I don't know what I just did, but I'm pretty happy about it... 😂🎉
Cheers, sleuth!
Very nice, both the puzzle and the solve!
Thanks!
Fun and approachable! This would be a great introduction to anyone new to negative constraints. 18:31 for me. 😄
10:40 here. Nice puzzle with a smooth solve. Thanks Sleuth.

07:39 - I did not spot the hidden pattern until I read these comments. 😅 Fun solve.
14:47 - very fun and beautiful, and for once i breezed through the XV logic.

Not sure how I missed that!

11:42. My best for a while. A sign that I'm getting over the flu.
This one was such a beauty!
Nice to have an X V puzzle without having to use the alphabet which always gets me confused. Thanks for another fun puzzle! ❤
That was one of my goals when creating this, I also get overwhelmed with lettering and wanted to ensure that even if you can solve it that way, that it wouldn't be necessary
Nice puzzle, and I enjoyed the patterns! My time today was 8:46, solver number 2122.
Nice work!
A smooth 30m for me. Fun puzzle
9:38, quick and nice with full coloring, missed the roping completely :D
16:52 - Nice easy one.
Loved it

9:15 nice morning brain workout
An XV negative constraint where I can actually place digits before the entire puzzle is colored/lettered? What heresy is this?
@@qovro A beautiful heresy!
15:43. As for the pattern in the grid, each number occupies a different position in each square.
Never noticed the roping until I had finished. I started with box 1, r1c1 had to be low and r3c3 had to be high. Only one sequence could work on that line.
Fun puzzle!
Got stuck in the middle because of missed negative constraint in rules (as always😂)
Oh no!
06:43 great puzzle. Is this what we call rope? Horizontal and vertical!
Thanks! ☺
Indeed this is roping, nicely spotted!
Yup! @phoenixaki3458 Thank you for that. I was curious to understand why it was rope, now I can see better. =)
I sailed through 90% of this and that got stumped for a while by the old "didn't read the rules thoroughly" trick 😅
Nice debut, if not terribly challenging.
I found the hidden pattern 😄

I shoulda been 10 seconds *slower!*
lol
Am I weird for being disappointed that I didn't get to use letters at all and next to zero coloring? A fun, quick puzzle nonetheless
😂 Just watched you do all of the coloring at the end! You could have substituted letters after that ;-)
