Bowling through the Fog (Re-Post): Meggen033 lines up another strike for us
#sudoku #sudokusleuth
Today's Video:
Due to recording issues, this is my replay of that puzzle. A little rushed, but there is a reference if you got stuck!

Bowling through the Fog by Meggen033
link.sudoku-sleuth.com/BowlingThroughTheFog
Rules:
Normal Sudoku rules apply.
THERE IS ONE, AND ONLY ONE, red Ten Line where contiguous groups of cells sum to 10. These groups of cells cannot overlap. Digits may repeat freely on the line, even within sums.
Digits along a magenta renban form a set of consecutive non-repeating digits in any order.
A black dot between cells indicates cell values with a 2:1 ratio. A white dot between cells indicates cells with consecutive values. Not all dots are given.
Digits in a cage do not repeat and sum to the clue in the top left.
The grid is partially covered with fog. Correctly placed digits will clear the fog around that cell. No guessing is required.

22:20, quite nice and easy for a ten line puzzle :)
13:12 ... you post it again and I'll play it again!!
😂
well the benefit of no video is that I simply HAD to persevere! Not sure how long it took me (clock said 682:28!) but it was open when I went to bed ha ha!!
😁
I feel you are taking fog of war a bit far by not showing us the numbers as you type them in😀
This what this channel is all about, commitment!
16:09 I made a mistake with the white dots, instead of 123, with 2 in the middle, I placed 132. Ha 😅 But once I solved this problem the puzzle had a great flow. Unfortunately your screen is not moving, but you probably had a great time solving right? It was beautiful indeed. Don't worry too much about that ☺ Thank you! 😁
23:18 - Lovely puzzle.
Starting my day with your daily puzzles has become a welcome habit lately. Usually the Meggen puzzles are tricky, for me at least, but again I managed it. Within an hour (yeah I'm slow). Getting there! :) Love, Sheila
Nicely done!
28:01 Nice coffee time puzzle.
I love your coloring/lettering method! But I prefer to pair the green up with purple instead. That way you also differentiate between the different sets of high digits, wich means you spot the polarity on some of the X clues more easily.
Makes sense!
Great puzzle after a tough weekend
Yes it was!
36:48 #3593 oooph
22:39 here, very nice puzzle again, with quite a lot of forward-backward thinking. Thanks Sleuth.
My pleasure!
25:41 for me. For me sounds that you got bit too long stuck on box 7 with 19. I solved that with coming down from column 4 by realizing white kropki dot takes 1 and so 10 sum as 9+1 is gone so it must to be 1 on ten line.
Glad I didn't need help on this one. LOL
😳
29:52 for me. Meggen is one of my favorite setters
I just love fog sudoku som much! 30:21 for this.
There is one and only one rating for this puzzle: A+! Nice logic, particularly in box 1 but also throughout the rest of the puzzle. My time today was 14:58, solver number 1028.
ooh I don't normally like an irregular puzzle but hard to pass up a negative constraint XV one!! Thanks Sleuth :)
No problem!
23:13 ... with one stumble along the way
Morning Sleuth, your video of the solve seems to be stuck on the grid!
Noooo!
Will fix later, sorry
Yes, @@SudokuSleuth, do fix (Because I'm stuck -- in col4, box5, box3 and box4 -- and I KNOW I'll be lost trying to keep track in my head, on what you said -- because I'm leaving my grid as is) That would be a mystery (and a "foggy" situation FOR SURE -- there are Trolls 🧌 and bridges 🌉 ALL OVER at moment then). Yes, do fix somehow lol. Have a good one 😆😋🍪☕️🌉🧌(<<uh-oh, lol)
Yeah, I got called away during the intro and accidentally left the video running. When I got back to the PC 15 minutes later I saw the grid was still default and said "How hard *is* this one?"
Your video is not showing moves on the sudoku part of the screen, weird
Yeah, the screen capture failed somehow. 🙁 Fumbled my way through the puzzle in 32min, but may have made a bad deduction in the bottom left area.
@@TonyNaggs I guess you needed to think about column 4 as that helped me to invade bottom left box 7 properly in. But i think Sleuth was also some time stuck there.
@Sinisest1121 I may have placed the 9 in box 7 before I strictly had enough info, hard to be sure without starting over. I certainly fumbled a deduction in box 8 at one point, as the fog didn't clear; which made me doubt my solve.
Oohh, puzzle time Yay (I'm currently in the throws of a bruised rib, then affecting a recently healed deep bruise and fractured/broken rib -- and now with a heavy cold/or flu on top of it -- had no stomach muscles to cough or heavily aspirate to cough things up or expectorate..) But, it's midnight now, and I feel half decent and it's PUZZLE TIME NICE (X/Vs) Cool (Oh, "X/V" constraint because you were talking about a possibility of "0s and 5s" being on them at 0:18). I think that should be "X/V" ( because "XV" is "fifteen") What happened to "X/V"? (You used to call them that.?) I thought for sure, I could get that changed on other channels (but they're steadfastly sticking with "XV"). (They mean "X/V" sillily) There have been puzzles done with the XV (fifteen); Two different colors (one for the 96, and it's mate -- and one for the 87, and it's mate). I could have sworn i could have changed "XV constraint' to "X/V constraint." Feeling better at moment though.. PUZZLE TIME 😆😋☕️☕️
Lol, Slueth, be a rebel, and go back to calling it "X/V" lol. 😆 (Feeling better though -- I've been havin' a rough time) 😆🍪(<<have a cookie, because it was there lol)
Well, once again, it really helps if you read the rules... I did not realize that there were no 5s on the dutch whisper line and solved it without using that constraint, took quite a bit longer to solve, 45:36, but it is solvable
😉
R6c34 region logic catch that I saw in your video is what allowed me to complete this puzzle. I wonder if there is a way forward without this. Irregular still gives me trouble
18:47 coulored everything. Another great irregular sudoku! Thank you!! 😀
My pleasure!
Lovely! Took me over an hour, but every minute of it well spent. For me, definitely two stars. Thank you for yet another little gem :) Love, Sheila
Glad you enjoyed it!
XV Yay! Irregular? Uh oh
😂
Terrible "mileage." Great puzzle.
Very nice, really enjoyed the watch!
Glad you enjoyed it!
One of the few times I could actually get through this without messing up the letters. Fun puzzle. Thanks! ❤
Great job!
Took my sweet time but never felt stuck. Really nice puzzle, thanks!
Nice job!
Once you finished shading green and purple it's quite easy to proceed: There are 3 green circles and 9 purple circles. Therefore the greens must be smalls, and they'll either be all 3's or 2x2 + 1x1. The purples are therefore bigs. There's only one way to solve the bigs: they're all 9s. If you try to split them into 2 different digits, then one of the digits will not be big (eg 6x6 + 3x3 - 3 is small - doesn't work).
I kept screaming "B can't be 3 because it's in the same cage with a 3" but alas the winds over the Atlantic didn't carry the sound to you
😂
The overlapping regions took a moment to wrap my brain around. Once it clicked, that revealed a lot of nice set logic, and I did end up using a lot of letters related to that. I think I got up through K or so as I solved, so obviously some of them overlapped. My time today was 17:59, solver number 271.
Always amazes me how these 2 can set such beautiful puzzles that solve with such fun logic.
That one left my brain in a knot…but I completed it! ❤
This one's beyond me.
It’s an unusual puzzle for sure
Another nice one! My time today was 10:43, solver number 1148.
Great puzzle and solve , found it tough to keep a track of it all with the double regions and colours etc but got there in the end 😊
Great job!
23:43 whoaaa! In the smartphone!! Unbelivable time for me. I guess it is because earlier today I solved another irregular sudoku. I use some letters to help me, but soon as I find the digit I took out the other, because in the small screen sometimes is hard when I do a lot of pencilmark. I am quite happy with myself today. Thank you so much for the solve!!! 🤗😎
wow sleuth that was absolutely brilliant, im not sure i couldve solved that one myself!! loved it!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi Sleuth, unfortunately I have now cancelled my Patreon support. No other reason other than to now switch to support other channels to help them get up and going. Still love the channel but you will need to remove me from your closing titles. Best of luck!
Thank you for all your support Jon!
@ my pleasure Sleuth!
Wow, Sleuth is indeed a master. He started great with 3s. I got the cage+black dot combo, but then I was lost for a while, so I just got the 3s after some crazy reasoning.
Tough puzzle for sure!
I don't understand how you got the 3 in the corner at 4:50. Can someone please explain.
Because where does R8C8 go in R9? 8 of the cells in R9 are in the same outlined region as that digit
The cells r8c8 and r9c9 are the only difference between an outlined region and a coloured region. In other words, the intersection between such regions is r9c12345678, meaning their last cells, r8c8 and r9c9, must be equal. The coloured region is just the row 9, the red region. The outlined region is the L-shaped region formed by row 9 excluding r9c9, including r8c8.
I didn't see the outlined region. Thank you.
@@Pwecko I had the same problem of not seeing outlines.
Nicely done, glad you enjoyed it. I surely enjoyed the watch, very nice! To create this one was a bit of a challenge, we spent a few hours constructing and continously ended up with puzzles without any solutions. We started over completely and created an irregular grid, and then added 9 additional sort-of overlapping regions in a way that didn't break the puzzle, and that felt like a 3-star puzzle to do by itself. When that was done we had a grid with at least one possible solution, and a bunch of cells that had to be the same. From there it was a lot of "how can we add in constraints here that yields rewarding deductions" and continously double-checking we didn't break it whenever we added something to the puzzle.
It was a beautiful puzzle and the logical deductions needed to solve were both highly rewarding and enjoyable. Thank you both!
@@gubblor Amazing
Didn't read the rules properly, it took me 35 minutes. Then came to watch the video afterwards, and am laughing at my stupidity!!
Morning Sleuth, may I risk a suggestion? The rules say 1-9 in « coloured/outlined » regions. I was taught that « / « stands for ‘and/or’. Which I took to mean that outlined and coloured were the same, outlines being a visual help for colourblind people and people like me who don’t care for visual distractions. Then I started studying the grid… and ran to your video for clarity. Maybe I am being pedantic (and obviously autistic) but it would be clearer perhaps to say ‘ coloured AND outlined’, wouldn’t it? Sorry about that, let’s blame it on a Saturday morning…
Not bad feedback, thanks. I've changed the rules on LMD so it now says: Double irregular sudoku: Place the digits 1 to 9 once each in every row, column, colored region, and outlined region.
@@gubblor Thanks for that, and thank you so much for all your brilliant puzzles !
Another great puzzle from this duo! My time today was 8:01, solver number 1987.
I'm exceptionally glad that you featured this without the additional clues. What a thrill when I finished it! As for weekend vs weekday it's fine for either as long as there aren't too many on the weekdays we can catch up
Glad you enjoyed it!
Indeed a tough puzzle today! Great logic! My time was 27:35, solver number 1398.
