@@alanchamberlain9967Damn. Big MAC passed away?
Cedric Henderson..............r u sure?
Cindy Powell only played in the ABA, right?
It's a grim but great tradition you're keeping here with these, thanks.
RIP to all of these LEGENDS! Many thanks to all of them for helping pave the way for what basketball is today.
🙏🏾🤔Prayers for their families💪🏽🏀
its crazy in a few years a lot of legends/former players gonna pass away
Wtf you the reaper you might die in a few years
You and me and many others also.
This is one of my favorite types of videos from your channel. Thank you for your research, and brief history of these deceased players.
Same, great that he acknowledges any former player no matter how well-known they were.
@@Maximillian200HP💯
George McGinnis grew up in Indianapolis not Minniapolis .He is a legend in Indiana. High school ,IU and Pacers.
George McGinnis is a legend period, not just in Indiana.
willis reed is still my basketball hero class on and off the court. And Walter Davis one of my Favs from UNC all of these players RIP thank you for sharing your skills and talents
Happy New Year. Thank you for the informative video. Respectfully done too.
My sports hero growing up was Willis Reed. One of the greatest NY Knicks!!!!! RIP Captain #19 🏀🗽❤️🙏
Willis Reed didn't have a weakness as a basketball player
Madison Square Garden, 33rd st at Penn Plaza!!!
@@leonardcharles59 The world's most famous arena!!!!!!! 🏀🗽
As they say "When the Garden was Eden". Thank you Willis great memories.
Clyde, Dave, Dollar Bill, Dick Barnett, goofy Phil Jackson.... 1969,coached by Red Holzman!!!
Respect to these legends 🙏🏾 rip
I can’t believe how quickly time passes. Fantastic review of these former players and legends of professional basketball.
This is great! And you have a wonderful style for appreciating these men!
Wow! I stumbled upon this video and found it very informative! Never heard of most of the people mentioned, but learned a lot from the info provided. Thank you for the information.👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Great video bro, happy New Years
Thank you for doing this.
Brought back many memories !
Thank you for this. As an avid basketball fan I appreciate the talent each of these players brought to the game and to fans. They deserve recognition and our appreciation. I saw Tex Winter in one of the photos. He was someone I admired very much as an assistant coach with the Lakers and a mentor to one of the greatest coaches of the game, Phil Jackson.
How is Walter Davis not in the Hall? Strong scorer, college star, Olympic Gold Medal. C'mon, man. (Yes, I know about the drugs.)
Grant wasn't "one of" the greatest Viking coaches. He was THE greatest Vikings coach.
RIP to all these legends
Respect for all of those legends!
Well done, much respect.
Chris Ford wasn't the first player to hit a 3 pointer. It was an ABA player. Chris Ford was the first in the nba.
Actually, the minor major league AMERICAN BASKETBALL LEAGUE which operated during ‘61-62 and had future NBA’ers DICK BARNETT, CONNIE HAWKINS, and BILL BRIDGES, etc. playing, and which tried to sign JERRY LUCAS, with BILL SHARMAN also in his first pro hoops head coaching slot…
not only featured a three-point shot, but had a pretty famous owner named…
GEORGE STEINBRENNER who owned the CLEVELAND PIPERS..
The first BLACK AMERICAN HEAD COACH OF A MAJOR-ish league pro team coached that CLEVELAND team.. his name was JOHN MCCLENDON..who before that ABL turn won several NAIA NATIONAL titles during segregation years in the JIM CROW south.
Many of those NAIA squads had major college talent and future great pros on their rosters..
In addition, the 18 feet wide free throw lane used by the ABL was bigger than the then-12 footer width used by the NBA. Today, in the NBA the lane including hashmarks for standing before each shot, is 16 feet wide, changed from 12 shortly after the ABL folded..
The ABL also used a 30 second shot clock..
THE ABA did, too.
The ABA came along in 1967..
The ABL was the true pioneer..
Look it up..
Happy new year Mr Wilson. Thx for your work in the Last couple of years
Great video. May they all rest in peace
May all these legends rest in peace
I never knew Bud Grant played in the NBA.
Neither did I until watching this.
McGinnis lived in Indianapolis, IN. He played HS ball at Geo Washington, where in 1969 he led them to a state championship and an undefeated season.
He and Steve Downing were absolutely amazing as HS players
ThankU, very interesting
These videos really display not just your love and passion for the sport, but also your appreciation of the history of the NBA.
Wow, The Greyhound Walter Davis of Phoenix passed?? He was one of MJ's favorite players along with David Thompson. Also a Carolina Tarheel. RIP Mr. Davis
George McGinnis grew up in Indianapolis, not Minneapolis.
Big hands george McGinnis
RIP Captain Willis ..
north Louisiana.. Bernice
Damn. I feel old. Had I chosen to attend Villanova on a basketball scholarship, I would have been Chris Ford's teammate. That '71 team only played 6 guys on a rotation basis yet they were able to make it to the finals against UCLA. . the perennial champs in Wooden's era. I've often wondered about my decision.
I remember Ryan Minor for his baseball career at Oklahoma. I believe he was the winning pitcher in the College World Series against Ga Tech in '94 . This was before the present format in which the winning team has to win 2 of 3. Ga Tech was loaded. Jason Varitek, Nomar Garciaparra and Jay Payton were stars on that team but they fell short to Minor and the Sooners who won a single game championship. He passed away far too soon.
Seeing Willis, Big Mac, Bingo & Chris F. hits home.
Bud Grant all class.
ABSOLUTELY. AQuiet successful role model
I didn't know Walter Davis had passed. I remember seeing him in a restaurant in Denver a few years ago. He was at the table over from mine and still looked sleek and good. He just had a smooth manner about him.
Willis Reed, I would read him and Spencer Haywood, in the Sports Illustrated JR. He taught me how to enjoy reading.
Wow your hitting home with these deaths
I still remember coming home from school one day, in 1970, Lakers vs NY Knicks. Willis Reed came out limping. Think it was game 7. Somehow, Reed willed his team to winning that game, don't remember much else except that one particular moment when he came out to still play, think he originally was not supposed to play. The rest is history, one tough hombre.
RIP to all of those players and individuals who made a contribution to the game of basketball.Notice that a lot of these players were multi sport athletes? I don’t know why this is not encouraged more with today’s athletes.
Walter Davis; Rookie of the Year and NBA Allstar. Had one of the sweetest jump shots ever. It always looked like it was going in. Suns game announcer, Al McCoy, nick named him, Sweet D., because his shooting motion was smooth. They barely moved the net when the ball went through it. RIP Sweet D.
Some great men for the basketball history books... They all did well!
Appreciate. I would not have known.
I’m from Detroit and I forgot Chris ford played for us! I was a bit young, I just forgot!
Ford and M.L. Carr were Piston teammates before going to the Celtics I believe.
@@robertnelson3018I believe so.
Well done.
George McGinnis grew up initially indianapolis not minneapolis. He went to Washington high school in indy. Went to indiana University. Where did you get Minneapolis. There's several people you mentioned that were from Indiana on here.
Loved Willis Reed also a class act very Good man 🙏🏻✝️🌷
George McGinnis grew up in Indianapolis- not Minneapolis.
Williis Reed is from NORTH LOUSIANA . bernice.................................. went to GRAMBLING STATE... i was his barber in ruston , Louisiana... after he retired
i'm saddened by the passing of Ryan minor i watched him play baseball in the orioles organization in the 90s very sad my he rip.
Mr Knight deserved more details.
The great Bob knight.
Walter Davis was also known for the Velvet touch and sweet D. When played for the Phoenix Suns. And yes he ran like a greyhound.
The Greyhound, say it isn't so. He was so smooth. I also miss George McGinnis and Willis Reed. Willis's walk into the Garden after he had injured his hip to play against Wilt still gives me chills. George "Big Mac" McGinnis had this one handed push shot. His hands were so huge. I used to always argue with my friend about who was better Maurice Lucas, Elvin Hayes, or George McGinnis. I liked Big Mac. He carried Philadelphia on his shoulders for a while. May they all rest in peace.
otto graham passed in 2003
Is he still dead?
Rest in paradise my legends
Peace and abundant divine blissings and #salute to them!! Travel on in Peace ❤❤❤
Felton improved every year while at Louisville...
Rip Big Guy...
You didn’t mention Thomas Chatman
I remember Chris Ford was the 3 point king
I didn't know Walter Davis had passed
Bill Shonlee...bingo bango bongo!
8:04 -- "Zephyr" is pronounced "zepher," means a west wind or gentle breeze.
Walter Davis
He also hit the first 4 pt shot
Jumpin Johnny Green r.i.p.
Just curious, how is Bobby Knight an honorable mention.
Danny Ainge played MLB in college and played for Celtics.
That's Chicago Zephyrs.
I would argue Bud Grant is most known for being a COACH in the NFL, not a player.
The college is pronounced brandise- brandeis.
Psssh. BrandyBrandyBrandy.
@@TheBatugan77 croke please
Thank you ! Thats CORRECT!
If the Ivy League ever chose to expand then Brandeis would definitely be selected
What What, did you say.
Have Chair 🪑 we’ll throw😅 RIP Bobby Knight! Certain Coaches ya don’t forget!
May they all rest in peace!
I’m having a hard time believing one guy died playing a pickup game at age 49!?!?!
Makes me think of Dennis Johnson/Celtic! I love the sport & played too! I had to finally let it go in my mid 40’s! Had a young buck land on my right shoulder with his elbow! Couldn’t raise my arm over my head for nearly a month! Some play rougher than normal… especially when they’re playing older skilled players! “They think they have something to prove!?” Lol!
One thing he admitted to me later was…. He said you can really shoot the basketball very good way outside!!! When I left high school, they started the 3 point shot! We had players on our team would have had a field day with 3pt shooting!😅
Chris Ford died?
👍🏼👍🏼
Bran- dies not Bran- dis.
High school
shot takers...lol
That narrator sounds like he needs to eat more shrimp
💉☠️⚰️?
I want to know who past away but i don't want here about their history.. you are mixing things that don't interest me...
Could just google this and read it in under 5 min.
These videos are pointless
Johnny dunked on Wilt somewhere back there. Rare feat.
I call cap on that one , HIGHLY UNLIKELY.
@@gabeeskridge8291Why?? There have better players that Wilt that have been dunked on. Shot blockers get caught occasionally and dunked on
@@gabeeskridge8291 Didn't Happen often, but Kareem dunked on Wilt on several occasions.
@@mongoslade277 Obviously you are delusional , better than Wilt lol. Indeed , anyone can get caught. In my day , I took a few on the chin.
@@ji5340 Of course it could have happened. Obviously, Kareem got him , he's a ALL TIME GREAT , top 5 to ever lace them up. Chamberlain is forever the greatest. Modern agendas always attempt to downplay his true greatness.
