    You can get that action at the Jim Woodruff Dam in Chattahoochee, FL. Fish the upside of the Dam with white jig on a surf rod, Jig it out of the lock, have plenty of jigs. Catch stripers and hybrids, we fished the east side. Been years ago, should still be good.

    That first fish is a White Bass. We caught a bunch of those on Bull Shoals Lake in 1974, I think. We got into a school of them. We caught about 50 of them. Filled our freezer for the winter.

    My buddies up that way catch white bass in the fall winter and bring them down here for snapper bait. They only use chartreuse gulp curly tails. They use white flukes for stripers when they are chasing them.

    I do a good bit of "dam" fishing up around B'ham...love the variety of species I'm lucky enough to catch. Only thing that bothers me is how much trash people leave behind. I noticed the same thing in this segment. I wish there was some way to make people carry out what they bring in, but sadly, we just can't educate people who don't care. Just my two cents...

    Het Matt, you forgot to mention the City of Wetumpka was where the movie The Big Fish was filmed. I live in Montgomery and used to fish on the other side of the river and would catch stripped bass and alligator gar. I've heard of a lot of people jug fishing for catfish there.

    White and Chartreuse in the wintertime below any TVA dam, you are in business. O2 rich water that is actually warmer than surrounding water this time of year, cure the wintertime blues. I bet there are 30 pounders in there.

    Happy New Year Matt! Cool to see something a little bit different than normal. Those stripers look really awesome fish! I’d love to try and cross the pond one day and have a go for them! Even though you only caught a couple, it’s good to see you learned a ton of stuff instead. That’s what I love about fishing- there’s always more to learn! Tight lines Matt. You seem like a good guy. Love the part of the video where you said "I gotta get me one of those Stripers"...reaches for rod...jump cut to getting out of car. I was almost as bummed as you must have been!!! Love the dam segments. Disheartening to see all the garbage in the water / on the banks. Wish people would just clean up after themselves.

    • @curteouslycook
      @curteouslycook 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. I think most fishermen clean up after themselves, but there's a bunch who make us all look bad and make a mess of every good fishing spot.

  • @rburnett6266
    @rburnett6266 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Man, that video reminds me of Lay dam...north of Montgomery....in the spring. Close to the dam itself. We used white gummy imitation minnows with an action tail ( 3 or 4 inch) with a 3 quarter to 1 ounce jighead with a white paint..( painted black eyeball on it optional. Cast into the top by spilling water cascade, and bump it down...big ones, bro.
    Then take the castnet and catch threadfin, and go jug fishing for nice catfish in middle from dam start to 1/8 mile or so drift downstream...then back up again to top for a second jug drift.
