      Have you noticed that in all the anime and even in the movies, when someone draws and puts the sword back into the Saya, there's a metallic sound as if the Koiguchi or the Saya were made of iron, which isn't true. Putting a katana back into its saya makes a wooden noise at most. After that, I suppose it's all for show. But it's very misleading.

    • @DeusExMachina010101
      @DeusExMachina010101 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Wow, I'm impressed by the sound your katana makes when it simply cuts through empty space. Mine does, but clearly not as loud.
      Maybe it's because the microphone is so close and the walls of the piece are so close, or maybe it's better technique (that's for sure :) ).
      I'll try again in a room smaller than my living room.

    Thanks, I was able to commission a katana recently and it's a little bit overbuilt. This video helped me immensely in knowing how to use it safely and effectively. I have about a Year's practice under my belt in European hand and a half sword but upon holding my katana for the first time I realized it was a completely different beast. This video I hope is the first step in a further education on this particular blade. I really love my sword and I couldn't be more proud to be in possession of it, to use it with respect instead of fear of accidentally chopping myself to pieces is a great relief and a huge justice towards katana itself. I have subscribed and I'm looking forward to more videos hopefully you give us some more training.

    Shogo, I appreciate your video so much, and you are amazing. I would like to own and learn how to handle a katana. I do have a bo which is interesting to use. Thank you for your great video!

    Excellent video!
    But I would appreciate if Shogo-san could explain more about the little punch that you apply to the tsuba. I know that is a form to clean the blade, but there's a name for that movement?

    ABSOLUTELY MARVELOUS!! Shogo, you should be in the employ of the Japanese government for the purpose of sharing Japanese culture with the entire world. Your knowledge is exceptional, your presentation is friendly and informative, your entire demeanor says: "Come be my friend and I will show you how wonderful my country and my countrymen are!" Thank you!

    I actually have a few questions regarding where the katana is placed:
    #1: Why must it always be on the left side ? is it related to history or something about safety?
    #2: What stops me from being able to mirror what this video has taught me onto my right side? As a right handed person wouldn't I benefit from mirroring it onto my dominant side ?

      1) in the feudal era, samurai always had to walk on the left side of the street, also, to avoid hitting another samurai's scabbard, this is like a calling for a duel and it could damage the scabbard
      2) honestly, as a left-handed,i don't know
