Am I the only one whos like "mehh?" Who needs a live version, we got a perfectly good animated version right here...
yes same, because some of this cast I hate what they act as. They're not suited for the roles
I agree
Agree
Actually, I'd love to see the live version!! Being alive and still faithful to the animated vibe😊
Yeah, this feels like a cash grab
They better give Astrid her blond hair.
Why not just recast the actor as a women of nordic descent.
@@Revelationscreation exactly she isn't even nordic or even at least northwest or west european. They could've looked through actors in Germany, Netherlands, Scotland, England, Ireland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, everywhere but she seems mediteranean, or perhaps mexican idk like Spanish American descent.
@@Lillyrosechan she’s certainly not Mediterranean. Possibly Latino. Yes you’re right, they obviously picked her for a reason. However, the animated movies are so good that this is not going to do much to tarnish the franchise.
@@Revelationscreation bro she obviously has black blood, black people were no where near nordic isles (I'm black, I can say this)
@@orderofthehero3547 Latinos are mixed.
We don't need live action for everything.
preach!
Yea but this actually has potential
@@FanFav101unless they ruin the animated series for the people who’s childhood this was
@@Last667the original is still going to be the original… no one is going to be deleting the animated series after this drops! they’re not upping or ruining anything, it’s an adaptation, aka a separate project. you can choose to watch it or choose to ignore it, but the magic from the original will not be changed by a live action project. just like how the little mermaid is still the little mermaid, live action or not. ❤

I really wish they didnt race swap astrid and fishlegs, i love TLOU and the job nico did, but i wish they would use an accurate portail of the characters we know and love. Its also taking away from the fact that they are scandinavian (and in places that people would have light hair and skin) and taking away from that
Tbh the thumbnail is what they should go for dragon design wise. Have it more realistic but retain the emotion and personality of the animation
Agreed
When I was 8 I thought there was no difference between live action and how to train your dragon
HELL NO
@@GingiebredVR ??
Never ever change the look of the dragon
the cast sure is interesting, I mean ruffnot and tuffnot are supposed to be twins but they don’t even look like eachother one bit
Ruffnut looks good but the sister is way off.
exactly like wtf
Ruffnut is the sister, Tuffnut the brother.@@selalewow
@@pandaghost6 Sorry, been awhile since I have seen it.
They dropped the ball on casting. Really disappointing
100,000 bucks says this project crashes and burns because they try to make it for a "modern audience"
like gobber being gay. that would be pretty F*ckd up
bro, this movie will flop because they're trying to make it political, Nico Parker is black, there are no black people ANYWHERE near the Nordic Isles
I am not making a losing bet against you.
While also completely misunderstanding the “modern audience”. I swear the modern audience that old Hollywood corporate executives make up in their head is so so so far removed from the actual modern audience
already race swapped astrid. this movies goung to suck
Bro they better not mess this up though this as my childhood man
Yes
Have you seen the actress for Astrid then?
They race swapped Astrid and the twins don’t even look like twins😭the film will be so bad already.
What hasn't been ruined in the past few years? Hope it's an exception but...
It’ll be better then the Nine Realms
So cast opinions:
Hiccup - Did they just clone Heath Ledger?
Stoick - Perfection. Down to the most minute detail
Astrid - 2 👎👎. This is no offense to the actress. The person in charge of casting screwed up
Fishlegs - I'm on the fence. On the one hand, he is the perfect body type and I think he can pull off FL's personality and on the other, if it didn't say he was FL I would have had no clue who he could play in the movie
Snotlout - He'll need to bulk of a bit(not to cartoonish proportions) otherwise it can work
Tuffnut - Long blonde wig and he's good beside not even vaguely looking like who they picked for Ruff
Ruffnut - They did not even try to get someone that looked like Ruff or be related to Tuff
Pretty much spot on yeah. Tuffnut definitely looks the most similar to the animated character out of all of them I think, Stoick just makes me so happy though because he's going to have the same voice, and he does look a whole lot like the character he plays.
My opinions
Hiccup - I agree with you on Heath Ledger, but tbh, its not bad, and Heath Ledger was my favorite actor (he's dead) so, I'm good with this casting
Stoick - Pretty good, considering he voiced Stoick
Astrid - THIS FRICKING POLITICAL CASTING SUCKS, FIRST PERCY JACKSON, NOW THIS
Fishlegs - Looks ok
Snotlout - eh
Tuffnut - He's good
Ruffnut - Didn't even try
@@orderofthehero3547 My bad. I wasn't saying anything bad about Hiccup's actor(don't actually know enough about him to be for or against him). That was just the first thing that popped in my head when I saw him.
I was really confused on that decision for Annabeth especially considering all the flak the first actress got just for not being blonde in the first movie
Astrid’s casting is like hiring Mark Wahlberg to play T’Challa from black panther
Id hope they recast some of the characters like seriously try to actually make them look similar
i dont really agree with hiccups cast but the others are pretty decent in my opinion
@@travisdingolaite6184 Its astrids and fishlegs for me. They didnt even try
I agree with @joshuabeck6950.
@@joshuabeck6950 personally i disagree as a childhood fan of the movies and the shows i think their cast is good for the roles
@@haroombaah yes, those dark letter/number curls are very indicative of Nordic ancestry. 🙄
I bet you also thought the live action casting for Ariel was perfectly fine too, right?
How to Train Your Dragon originally came from DreamWorks itself, but for the live action version, it seems like DreamWorks won't be joining in on making the movie with Universal, even though DreamWorks is currently owned by the company.
Probably for the best. They poured their hearts and souls into those movies. The live action ones look nice, but the animated style of the trilogy made it work. I'm optimistic for this. Lord knows I don't want to become an annoying TH-cam critic, but still.
reminds me of megamind 2 ( megamind vs the doom syndicate) dreamworks only has their name on it and noothing else
you know what I think. I think DreamWorks should stay its own company.
@@btpati you mean when it was just part of DreamWorks pictures when DreamWorks animation was founded?
How to train Your dragon was originally a book series by Cressida Cowell before DreamWorks did their thing with it. If the live action is going by the books and not the animated films then Toothless will look incredibly different. To be honest I prefer the DreamWorks designs. 😆
As a black person, i firmly believe Astrid should not be played by a black or ethnic actress. The point is that the movie portrays Nordic history and mythology. Diversity is fine in a movie but it should also be somewhat accurate to its source.
Thank you. I have mad respect for coloured people, but this is too far. I want to cry.
Long as Toothless's look remain as adorable as the animated then I'll be happy.
I agree, I can't imagine him looking any other way. If they make him scary then it wouldn't be Toothless anymore.
Bruh am actually scared for toothless
They are most likely not going to make him look line the original.
It's a live action after all.
Okay, don't get me wrong I love this series and I am interested in seeing this one just for the sake of it. I'm not complaining but I gotta ask, why it seems like we haven't really gotten any new stories that have fantastical creatures and loveable characters that become new children's childhoods? Lately, the movie industry has been so focused on live-action remakes and dealing with controversy for not keeping true to the classic story and what the characters looked like by fans that they seem to forget there are plenty of stories, legends, and books out there that have yet to be brought forth to a wider movie audience with faces that haven't already been established. Again, I don't dislike the remakes, just feels like that's all that's been getting made lately. Plus it doesn't help that they have been continuing to highly disappoint fans when they make the remakes by not keeping true to the original plot anyway.
The photo with the director looks to be the wall of the arena where they train the younger vikings on how battle dragons.
course thier gonna make a striaght haired blue eyed blonde, mixed, with extra curly hair, brown eyes, and brown hair. Also rough nut (girl twin) needs to be scrawnier, and I hope they get stoic more big and bulky or itll just look off.
Yeah I wish they didn’t race swap Astrid. It just doesn’t feel right to see her without her blonde hair.
Yeah I wish they didn’t race swap Astrid. It just doesn’t feel right to see her without her blonde hair.
That & race swapping Fishlegs.
same talk as with the little meermaid... sure sad... but they choosed them hopefully for a good reason. there acting for example.😊
Why do studios do this ALL THE TIME. Not to discriminate, but it's getting annoying. They find other people that resemble the characters really well, and then they just throw this. You don't need to add a race that wasn't there into the movie just because it wasn't there originally.
Can we talk about how good the thumbnail looked? Ik its just a concept, but still cool
Yeah it's not bad, it's funny how they changed his two big floppy ears into horns XD
It’s ai “art”, disgraceful
I did not like it. For a second I thought it was how the dragons will look😱
Aaahhh Astrid has blond hair and blue eyes so what's up ???
I’m all for diverse casting in this alternate Viking universe, but I really wanted astrid to look like the animated version tbh..
Nico Parker must identify as a blond caucasian woman, because no way it's going to be the second role in a row she will act as one. First it was Sarah from The Last of Us and now Astrid from Httyd... Gotta admit, this seems disrespectful towards nordic people, speaking as an european myself
The way i see it, is that they're casting based on experience and how well the people will play the role, not on looks. In my opinion its better the quality of an actor then the looks of an actor.
@@Zeebee913 So you are telling me in thousands of caucasian blond actresses, there's not a single one that's good enough to fit in the role?
@@dogeatturtle There might not be, because in a casting director's eyes this one person might be a perfect fit for the role. Also they're probably going to have her wear a wig or something.
Freya Allan would be perfect.
@@forestcritter8785 Yes, but then there's also the fact of whether or not the actor showed up to the casting call, sure there might be better actors who could fit the role but they didn't show up for the casting call. Its not like a casting director just picks someone who didn't even request to play a part in the movie and they automatically get the role, casting doesn't work like that.
This fills me me with both excitement and dread! These were my favorite movies growing up and if they mess it up too bad ill be pissed.
Okay now replace Astrids actress
ye I hate that she casts her. They could've chosen anyone else but no
fax
And Snotlout's
Right? Nothing against the actress herself but "diversifying" yet another blonde character and contributing to blonde and redheaded erasure in film is disrespectful to the character and to the fans. I fear for if they make a live action Brave.
Hopefully they do what they did with Rhodey and change the actor without mentioning it. Or a third party/amateur takes the time to cg over the incorrect casting.
Have you ever read the books? They say the first movie is based on them and in the second they've spilt form the original source. But the books represent a viking village where they all use and train dragons to their benifits. Thootless is a common Dragon type that while having a special way of communicating, is not greatly trained by Hiccup and very stubborn - has his own mind. Together they go on whacky adventures w Hiccup being a huge fan of an adventurer in the olden days and following his footsteps.
Very little like anything in the movies, while characteristics are similar
It diverges even more I guess, but it was always a very loose adaptation.
Actually i think books and films have nothing in common excluding some names.
5:54 yay... More force inclusion
unfortunately. Unless they completely CGI their appearance to be accurate, I don't want anything to do with this.
Yeahhh..I won’t be looking forward to this. Not hating on the actors themselves..it’s just why…
How do you know it’s forced inclusion?
Bro some of these actors don't even look like the actual characters(How is a actor supposed to play a character that has a different skin complexity and hair that isnt even the same color or style.) @IJustWantAMocha
@@summermelody7942 cuz Astrid is white and blonde. So is fishlegs. Ethnic washing characters THAT ARE ALREADY ETHNIC IN THE FIRST PLACE BUT SINCE THEIR SKIN IS PALE IT DOESNT COUNT APPARENTLY
Everything don’t need a live action remake
Man, I love this animated movie trilogy! Gerad Butler is perfect for his original role. Please do not kill him off this time!
Wtf do u mean don't kill him off?
That's.. that's how the story goes though.
It's crucial to the story. It's not something that can be avoided and it's not "killing him off"
Excuse me barmaid! I'm afraid you've brought me the wrong ending. I ordered a large emotional death scene, with extra glory and character development for my boy Hiccup! This here! This wish is watered down piss!
@@CrimsonMey golden comment
Sucks that the original voice actor for hiccup doesn't play him. Dont get me wrong, Mason looks the part but the voice is just as iconic, if not more so.
Soon, Cars will be a live action film
This one will be epic 🔥🔥
.....it's just gonna be the same movie but with irl locations instead of CGI locations. I'd rather just watch the original again.
Get a new actress for Astrid already. Nico Parker is guaranteed to flop this live-action production without a doubt.
She's not guarentied to flop, she's an amazing actor and did such a good job in the last of us, just because she doesnt have the same appearance as astrid doesnt instantly mean she'll do horrible. Yes they could have casted someone who actually looked like astrid but im just happy that we are getting more httyd content and as long as the acting and visuals are good i wont see a difference
@@hattr_9239 it puts a bad taste in everyone’s mouth before the move even comes out, that will make a lot of people refuse to go watch it, or just not have the urge to go see it in theaters. It will flop.
@@hattr_9239tbh when live action adaptations don’t stay true to the appearances of the animated film they are recreating it already turns me away from going to watch the film. It does not matter if they are the greatest actor/actress in the world. What I want is an adaption that stays true to the plot and the appearance of the characters. I know the actor for Astrid is not like black(I think) but she also looks nothing like Astrid. And she is not the only one. I’m mad about ruff and tough as well. Yes I know that different gendered twins can never be identical, however they could at least make them look more similar than what they did. How are the jokes supposed to land correctly? Now I will say this, I will most likely go see this since this is one if my favorite animated movies BUT I do have low standards because of the actor’s in the movie. My reasoning is stated above but it’s also because, if they changed so much about the aforementioned characters, who’s to say that they won’t do something stupid to the plot?.
@@hattr_9239 how is she gonna cast as someone of different descent, she doesn't sound like her, look like her, nothing.
@@user-js3jf6zb1kyes I hate it too that she casts Astrid, she looks mediteranean and she could never cast a nordic person like that, not with the voice, the looks nothing. They might have to pull a lot of cgi to make her resemble astrid
Toothless in the thumbnail has truly gotten a glowup. He looks so cool!
Stoicks death is a moment where real men cried the music mixed with yelling just made it even harder to listen to and it’s already been very close to 10 years since httyd 2 came out time really does fly😭😭😭😭
5:52 - NOT watching this film. When transitioning a film from Animated to Non-Animated, there is NO reason to change a character's ethnicity besides a producer/director craving in to current social opinions. FAIL!
Hit that like button on this comment if you agree.
100% agree! Its sad really. This inclusion vs accuracy crap is really bugging me.
Yep! People wouldn’t like it if a dark skinned character was turned white so why the other way around?
AGREED! IT'S GONNA BE ANOTHER "THE LITTLE MERMAID" FLOP ALL OVER AGAIN! RACE SWAPPING ORIGINAL IPS FOR INCLUSIVITY IS DOOMED TO FAILURE.
@@Beansnfriendsyea true like k am not racist but why do that it’s ruining it
@@sarahmccord5069 same, I mean why take an awesome and iconic character and change it? I am trying not to be rasict
Oh dear god I hope this is better then very other live actions lately
the one piece live action was pretty good though, but the rest pretty much sucked yes, deathnote, dragonball, etc. though that's anime, I think they did well with maleficent and cinderella too, though junglebook was meh.
@@Lillyrosechan one piece was good, jungle book SUCKED
Interesting how they always manage to change the best female characters first Annabeth, now astrid
im actually a bit dissapointed from the characters but it is only NO WAY I HAV LIKES TY SO MUCH HAV A GOOD DAY/NIGHT/AFTERNOON/
That cast list is seriously disapointing, only three of the actors even look relativily similar to the charecters.
ruffnut cast must be troll ong
I normally don't like live actions but live actions with dragons with a medieval theme...they have my attention.
It would be cool if they left the animated stories plot alone and went with original books instead, would be refreshing and not mess with our nostalgia
I really hope they nail this movie. I'm really looking forward to the live action version of all httyd movies and series. If possible, I would love to see Vigo in live action too. That dude's a really essential part of Hiccup's character growth
I’m not complaining about a live action movie, I’m excited for it since I still love the original movies & tv series SO MUCH & I’m not angry about it being filmed in Ireland, I LOVE Ireland, I’ve got 45% Irish ancestry in me. But I just wanna know, Why Ireland? Why not Norway where where Norse mythology origins?
Well they do have to get permission to film in these areas for long periods of time. Maybe Norway has more strict regulations or just don't like the idea of movie companies filming on their land. This is just a guess though so take it with a grain of salt
I think it is because Norway is insanely expensive to film in and that it's strict. Also Ireland have landscapes that looks a lot like the Norwegian ones
Please don't fumble this... It has so much potential...
I can't believe this, I hoped they would make anything how to train your dragons, movies! Can't wait!!!!!!!
Astrid already ruined the film anyway.
i think they should make the dragons more on the animated side but make them a little realistic like enhance the scales and make the eyes more realistic and stuff
I feel like I'm watching a collage of images and videos of dragons while hearing an AI voice read an AI generated script. Definition of zombie.
I am pretty sure it is an AI voice. TH-cam in 2024 *sigh
My favorite part is the DEI of it being in a Scandinavian area and having a black character back in olden times.
And a main one at that…
This is one of my favourite movies of all time, live action adaptations tend to have a crappy track record, they better not screw this up
4:22 hiccup is not physically weak at all, in race to the edge it is shown that he has a sleeper build and is much stronger than he looks
In the first movie he is. This shown every time he picks up something heavy. He struggles while the other characters easily heave weapons/helmets at him without buckling under it as we see him do.
Beyond that: the divisive nature of the various cartoon series’ will probably insure they will not reference/consider much of it canon. The movies never really did.
Race to the Edge is also probably a few years after the first movie. He may be stronger than he looks , but hadn't gotten there yet.
The movie How to Train Your Dragon was one of my favorite childhood movies and it would be amazing to watch it be brought to life! 😊
⤵️👍
A lot of people complaining about how the actors don’t look like the characters, but I think only their faces and acting ability matter. Everything else can be changed for the film if they need to.
I wish they would finally produce the Dragon Riders of Pern. Its an incredible series that shows Dragons and their relationship with humans unlike anything written or filled yet.
Agreed, but they would ruin it :( there is no real antagonist for a start!
@@leonie7754 Other than the way the dragons would be depicted, sorry but I disagree. Discounting the deadly Thread, there are many antagonist throughout the books. The content resentment of the land holders' for the dragon riders. The way the society descends into a feudal system and lose all memory of its past. It's all there.
Interesting🤔…💗LOVE💗 the Animated Trilogy… Looking forward to hearing more as time goes on 😉… I know people are sick and tired of all the Live action “REMAKES”🤨 Don’t get me wrong so am I to a point😩 But I really am Interested to see how Toothless and the other Dragons will appear/look in Live Action!!!
Crappy that Astrid is black not accurate blond it’s little thing that is annoying 😢😢
Julian Dennison as Fishlegs isn’t blonde either. 🤷🏾♀️
We don’t now if they could dye their hair?
This blackwashing for diversity is getting out of hand. Aren't Vikings scandinavian?
They need to stop making the blonde leads black. They did it with Percy Jackson too.

I’m so scared this is going to kill the HTTYD Franchise…. One of the things that HTTYD did SO WELL was not rushing out films to piggy-back on the previous films success. And it played to its own strengths!!
HTTYD has so much potential as a live action film, and done absolutely perfectly would smash everything out of this universe.
I do wonder whether they do have the original HTTYD animated film makers and book author in discussion.
for dragon designs, they might use the ones they made for the live theater show. But I look forward to seeing this, HTTYD was my childhood alongside Jurassic Park.
NOOO IT SHOULD Have BEEN SCOTLAND!!!
(SCOTLAND FOREVER)
They need to KEEP THE MUSIC. Make it more Epic! Chilling! Nostalgic!!!
Seeing Mason Thames as hiccup makes me so happy! He did amazing in the black phone, He seems incredibly talented and I am so looking forward to seeing him as our beloved hiccup!
So happy they are choosing the cast off abilities and not fame.
I love the movies! I'm excited to see it when it's finished. I'd like to see them use a more realistic look for the Dragons but an animated look would be fine as well
can't wait for Dreamworks to show Disney how to make live-action adaptations ;DDD
to netflix too! but netflix atleast got a huge improvement from one piece
Yeah I just hope they don’t let us down.
DreamWorks isn't involved from what I hear so.
too bad. they already made astrid black
I think there is potential for this because it's could be a great movie
I can get used to hearing Hiccup in a different voice and seeing him in a different look as well as the other characters but if they're going to do right with one character, please do right by Toothless. I want them to keep his personality but not make his dragon look super realistic. A big part of Toothless's personality was his different personalities as well as his eyes being a strong indicater to wether he's in his fierce protector mode or an adorable goofball/ being curious. If they make Toothless look super realistic it will be really hard to portray his eyes with it looking creepy or weird. If he too realistic the small detail of his eyes going big and small might be to unnoticeable. Anyways, as much as I'm nervous for this movie j am excited.
Yes I am so hyped
Thoothless have to dance in end credit.
Is it just me who is deeply concerned about a childhood franchise being turned into flesh bags with pores and correct anatomy?
*Its the cast that scares me honestly*
BUT I HAVE HOPE. THOUGH SMALL IT'S STILL THERE.
I have been watching How to train your Dragon since I was four, And I read the books this is going to be a very big addition to my childhood that I have waiting for for years I really hope that production goes well on this and there is no major issues.
Looks like a lot of fun! I can't wait to see how they portray the dragons.
Why is ruffnut fat? Why is Fishlegs indian? Why is Astrid black?

You really got me with that thumbnail damn
honestly this seems more promising than many other live-action movies. I believe this will be great.
Too bad that the director and production decided to do this film in this woke age. This live adaptation will be a disaster for sure. Better if they just left it alone :(
Heck yeah!
“Over all the decision to turn the franchise into a full-fledged movie with real actors is-“
I’m sorry did you say “real actors,” I understand why but voice actors are also actors. Voice acting is just as hard if not harder than live action acting. I’m not trying to be mean or anything but it’s not fair to voice actors that they cannot be called “real actors” for all the word they do.
I'm Ready To Looking Forward To That Movie
Man i seriously don’t want Nico Parker playing Astrid, that will not work, she needs to be recast
The bar is very high. Don’t disappoint
Just to be clear, none of the screen adaptations have anything in common with the amazing 13-book series. The only thing they have in common is that they both involve a character called hiccup and there are dragons. The stories are completely different
the animation was already very good !
