I knit a sweater of Alpakka Lin and absolutely loved it! The yarn is so light and yet warm enough for a cold weather sweater and I can wear it with just a cami as the yarn is so soft! I used the pattern for this yarn - 298R-8 Lun Summergenser. It was a very quick knit also! Thank you for your wonderful poscasts! I truly love them!

For Alejandro's sweater's ribbing, consider re-knitting with reinforcing thread which is held together with the yarn to strengthen high-stress areas, usually sock heels and toes. The threads come in a range of colors so you should be able to find a match or close.

Yup that’s the way it works!!! Actually the yarn has even more of a story that I didn’t share. I ordered the yarn. Then found the nugget. The package arrived from harrisville and it was empty!!! I wrote and sent pictures showing them that there was only the packing slip, som le crumpled brown paper! The package didn’t look like it has been tampered with. I thought they may give me the option of a refund but they simply wrote to say a new package was in the mail 😂😂😂 the universe is clearly having fun with me!

I also listened to The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek, loved it. I just finished Jane Ayre. I have a desire to listen to the old classics for some reason. Maybe because of the writing styles of these great authors. I just feast on the rich vocabulary found in these books! On the red Christmas sweater topic, I have some gorgeous cherry red DK suri from Blue Sky Fiber that I will knit my next Ranunculus, probably starting it December 1 because I am only doing gift/holiday and charity knitting in November. Selma, I would recommend doing a folded hem on your husband’s sweater. The double thickness and folded under edge might make it more durable for him. I love the Magnolia sweater and have had my eye on it for awhile. I look forward to seeing your version! 💗

If you're looking for another Ontario author, Bonnie E. Virag wrote Stovepipe Sisters. Based on the survival of four sisters in the Foster Care program. I found it a very quick read mainly because the area isn't too far from where I live. I love the cherry red mohair against your skin, on camera it gives you a pretty glow!
Red is such a hard color to wear when you have blonde hair and pink undertones (as I do also!) But I actually think that red mohair suits your complexion really well 😊
Hold two strands together, or knit the cuff twice the length and fold over and sew down, so that the cuff of your husband’s sweater is more robust. Just a thought!
Magnolia Bloom will be something I cast on soon. I don't know yet how the pattern knits the bobbles, but...on my current knit when I do the bobbles I have incorporated a tip that I learned lately to keep one's bobbles perky. The tip is to do the bobble, then wrap the yarn around it counter-clockwise, then carry on knitting. My bobbles are looking nice and round, and perky 😊

The first red that you bought and showed was a beautiful shade, but really not for you….maybe you could use it in a color block away from your face as it is really pretty. Like when you do brim doubled over and pick it up you're making the ribbing double thick and it doesn't rip out I've had a problem with. Jackets woolen spun from Brooklyn yarns. Folded brim ribbing on jackets I designed for friends who want custom work 🤗. PERFECT 👌🏻 FOR HOLDING SHAPE FOR ALL GARMENTS 👍🙄😏🤔🤗😘
Hello from Toronto. I enjoy your podcasts. For the Harrisville sweater where you are re-knitting the ribbing, I would try twisted rib in a smaller needle which should be more durable.
If you re-knit the neckline you may want to pick up and knit the new one before you remove the old one. Kind of like how you pick up button bands for a steek. I saw on another podcast where a person folded down inside rather than remove it. I've tried removing necklines from top downs before and made a right mess. Good luck! 🙂🤞

I am wondering if using a tubular bind off on your husbands sweater might help it wear longer, as it is a thicker bind off. I am so envious of you being able to go to Espace Tricot -sigh! I love all the fall colors in your videos and watching you kick those maple leaves made me nostalgic for my hometown in the Kootenays. I worked in a yarn store in the 80’s and a every time a certain customer came in she would tell me I was a Spring and pull out the shade cards and show me what I “should” be wearing. For your Ellery sweater, Roxanne Richardson just came out with one of her Casual Fridays podcast in which she updates the neck of one of her sweaters by taking it in the way you want to. She might have some ideas/techniques that might give you a solution. It was lovely to see your walk in the Arboretum. It's almost on my doorstep and I rarely go at this time of year.
Such wonderful fall colours! I live in southern Ontario and the colours are very slow to turn. It is Oct 23 and most of the maple trees are still mostly green.

Could you use the stitch pattern in twisted stitches book for a knitted floor rug? It just seemed like the texture would add some interest to a small rug like that. Some of the stitch patterns looked like they would work in socks. I have been playing with some stitch patterns in some of the books I have to make socks and it has been a fun way to try some stitch patterns that intrigued me. I do really enjoy your podcasts. You give so much information about patterns and yarns and it is really helpful.
Another lovely podcast! For your husbands sweaters have you considered using some of the nylon reinforcing thread that you can use in the hard wear points of socks?
Have you had a hem fray like that before? Does he tug on it? You mentioned lengthening the sweater. If he’s tugging it down repeatedly, that may account for the fraying. The other thing you might consider is a folded hem. A little more fabric to tug. It’s so great he wears it. It’s an attractive sweater. I’ll be interested to see what works. Update in a year or so? i vote for the Debbie Maige sweater for xmas in cream or pale grey. so pretty. and you can wear it all winter season- not just for xmas. also- just wondering if maybe double rib hems on your husbands sweater might wear a bit better. just a thought
while that red is acutally a purple red, i think you're right - the second colourway was perfect and that magnolia bloom is the most gorgeous sweater . I'd do the cuff double on your husband's sweater and I think that would make it more enduring. I'm wondering if his job is using computers and that this happened because of the action of his hands on a desk with a computer? Just a thought...:-)

I made the L. My gauge was a bit tighter. I think it won’t have the ease suggested however. I haven’t finished but I think it will use 1.5 of the bfl and the full skein of the mohair. I will talk about it on the next episode for sure
For your shawl - could you alternate the speckled and orange as you said for maybe a dozen rows or so then continue with just the orange and teal. Almost like a fade? So there’s a transition between them.

I often crochet around the hem and cuffs of sweaters. I do the dc (UK)/sc (US) stitch. This makes them more durable.

Hold two strands together, or knit the cuff twice the length and fold over and sew down, so that the cuff of your husband’s sweater is more robust. Just a thought!

Magnolia Bloom will be something I cast on soon. I don't know yet how the pattern knits the bobbles, but...on my current knit when I do the bobbles I have incorporated a tip that I learned lately to keep one's bobbles perky. The tip is to do the bobble, then wrap the yarn around it counter-clockwise, then carry on knitting. My bobbles are looking nice and round, and perky 😊
Hi Selma….always so good to see you. The scenery before and after was beautiful. I thought the red color you choose was the best with your skin tone too. The first red that you bought and showed was a beautiful shade, but really not for you….maybe you could use it in a color block away from your face as it is really pretty. Loved the project you were wearing, the length was flattering.

Like when you do brim doubled over and pick it up you're making the ribbing double thick and it doesn't rip out I've had a problem with. Jackets woolen spun from Brooklyn yarns. Folded brim ribbing on jackets I designed for friends who want custom work 🤗. PERFECT 👌🏻 FOR HOLDING SHAPE FOR ALL GARMENTS 👍🙄😏🤔🤗😘
Hello from Toronto. I enjoy your podcasts. For the Harrisville sweater where you are re-knitting the ribbing, I would try twisted rib in a smaller needle which should be more durable.

If you re-knit the neckline you may want to pick up and knit the new one before you remove the old one. Kind of like how you pick up button bands for a steek. I saw on another podcast where a person folded down inside rather than remove it. I've tried removing necklines from top downs before and made a right mess. Good luck! 🙂🤞

I bought the same red nutiden and in fact have started a little or not so little nutiden collection. But, I am paralyzed with indecision in regards to what to knit with it. Your Bindweed Sweater turned out really well. I love your modifications and it looks terrific on you. I am wondering if using a tubular bind off on your husbands sweater might help it wear longer, as it is a thicker bind off. I am so envious of you being able to go to Espace Tricot -sigh! New Brunswick sounds like a wonderful holiday to look forward to. I love all the fall colors in your videos and watching you kick those maple leaves made me nostalgic for my hometown in the Kootenays. Thank you for sharing the process you go through when knitting your swatches and deciding about changes in your sweaters. It is very helpful. I worked in a yarn store in the 80’s and a every time a certain customer came in she would tell me I was a Spring and pull out the shade cards and show me what I “should” be wearing. @@littlebigknits lol maybe I am but I really don’t like those colours. Forgot to mention, I almost always do a provisional crochet cast on for my neck lines. That way I can go back an adjust it so many different ways.
For your Ellery sweater, Roxanne Richardson just came out with one of her Casual Fridays podcast in which she updates the neck of one of her sweaters by taking it in the way you want to. She might have some ideas/techniques that might give you a solution. It was lovely to see your walk in the Arboretum. It's almost on my doorstep and I rarely go at this time of year.
Such wonderful fall colours! I live in southern Ontario and the colours are very slow to turn. It is Oct 23 and most of the maple trees are still mostly green.
I put Norah's book on my xmas list too. I am hoping to devote a year to that book and her other cable book. Also some of her other patterns

For the ribbing, maybe you should fell whit two strands of yarn. Strand two should be a yarn whit som nylon in.
Some people hold the yarn double for the ribbing…that might make it more durable….
Norah Gaughan also designs beautiful menswear. I'm very intimidated by her patterns, but I would love one of her mens sweaters.

Could you use the stitch pattern in twisted stitches book for a knitted floor rug? It just seemed like the texture would add some interest to a small rug like that.
Some of the stitch patterns looked like they would work in socks. I have been playing with some stitch patterns in some of the books I have to make socks and it has been a fun way to try some stitch patterns that intrigued me.
I do really enjoy your podcasts. You give so much information about patterns and yarns and it is really helpful.

Have you had a hem fray like that before? Does he tug on it? You mentioned lengthening the sweater. If he’s tugging it down repeatedly, that may account for the fraying. The other thing you might consider is a folded hem. A little more fabric to tug. It’s so great he wears it. It’s an attractive sweater. I’ll be interested to see what works. Update in a year or so? Thanks so much for an interesting podcast.

i vote for the Debbie Maige sweater for xmas in cream or pale grey. so pretty. and you can wear it all winter season- not just for xmas. also- just wondering if maybe double rib hems on your husbands sweater might wear a bit better. just a thought
while that red is acutally a purple red, i think you're right - the second colourway was perfect and that magnolia bloom is the most gorgeous sweater . I'd do the cuff double on your husband's sweater and I think that would make it more enduring. I'm wondering if his job is using computers and that this happened because of the action of his hands on a desk with a computer? Just a thought...:-)

I made the L. My gauge was a bit tighter. I think it won’t have the ease suggested however. I haven’t finished but I think it will use 1.5 of the bfl and the full skein of the mohair. I will talk about it on the next episode for sure

For your shawl - could you alternate the speckled and orange as you said for maybe a dozen rows or so then continue with just the orange and teal. Almost like a fade? So there’s a transition between them.
