I’ve actually done this before after wondering what it would be like if I woke up blind. I put on a big blindfold before bed and then woke up to go through my whole day blindfolded. I started off the day meditating and it really is surreal the longer you go. My hearing got crisper and things were louder or I could notice them more. That cool sense (probably just sense of touch that I didn’t notice) that lets you know when something is in front of your face was really weird and super helpful. I found my memory to be better bc I had to be super attentive to everything. Throughout the day, I tried some martial arts, working out, and then I ended up using a stick to help me walk around my neighborhood. Everything else was me just experiencing and experimenting with what life is like with no vision. Absolutely phenomenal and I recommend it for everyone. I want to do it again soon when my schedule gets freed up. Quick note I was able to balance walk on a 4 x 4 piece of wood but I was using my feet to dip walk and keep contact with the wood for the whole time. I think just walking is insanely harder. Great video and really cool that I’m not the only one to randomly do this 😅

When I had COVID I lost my taste and smell (AND appetite). As a serious chef/foodie/food critic, it was so depressing. We wouldnt get up to make meals because whats the point if you cant taste anything. So then we figure "we may as well eat the healthiest that we can (like bitter/earthy foods even)" It introduced us to fasting, healthier eating, appreciating food more (and our sense of smell and taste), and becoming more conscious of how food is really just a pleasure at the end of the day
The ultimate conclusion is that every sense is a pleasure, when we're without it for too long, well get antsy and get withdrawals and our minds will be frustrated because were not satisfying these "pleasures". Therefore the point of human life is to experience everything as it is and take it all in, smell the roses, and enjoy the view while were here.

Lucas, you did a great job. Being Legally blind, I would have recommended that you have A long Playlist of soft music to play and audiobooks ready to help kill some of the boredom and loneliness.
The use of a stick or a broom handle would have helped you navigate even better. I use my cane and sometimes my Bo staff.
Now that you've done it for 24 hours, if you do it for 1 hour somewhere in the near future you'll then notice have quickly all those other senses kick in.
    You gotta focus! Peace out.

This is absolutely bizarre, I thought about doing this earlier this morning.
I thought about how I don't read enough, and how I don't appreciate it or have a great attention span even when I do, and if I didn't have this gift, how I'd appreciate so much having audio books, and hang on every word, absorbing it all in an appreciative grateful meditative state. Even if the book isn't everything I wanted to capture me, the process of taking it in would mean a lot, instead of having a ton of books piling up that are gathering dust.
Anyway, I believe this is the first time I've ever thought about doing this, and most likely not for an entire day but for a few hours (I do have stairs as well, bit risky).
A dopamine detox doesn't get better than doing this, and I'd suggest if anyone is thinking the same then to do it first thing in the morning, for a lot of reasons.

This is really fascinating to know how those who lose their vision so abruptly manage day to day life. I myself am going blind but my vision loss is gradual so as my vision decreases I learn new coping skills. As for walking in that parking lot, trust me, you won’t do that “alone” so to speak. You would have your trusty white cane to help you to not fall into the lake and to detect level changes. Cooking is a challenge, but blind organisations have rehab centres that will teach you to cook. So yes we blind people can use that sharp chef’s knife safely!

my thoughts on why you probably didnt sleep well was that the tiredness was due to mental exhaustion but physically your body most likely had quite a bit of energy left at night because it can be pretty hard to achieve a bunch of physical activity blind, especially for someone who usually burns a ton of energy through exercise. i also think most people are aware of physical and mental exhaustion but i feel like its not acknowledged enough, especially for how widely beneficial it can be for tons of people.
ive always had terrible sleep issues even though i always felt exhausted. i had really strong ADHD but also was pretty high-functioning in the sense that i was always exercising my mind because i love learning new things and would kind of set little silly goals for myself (much like how you do with your channel which i really enjoy), but i wasn't super active physically other than a bit of soccer and skateboarding with friends (which was mainly all legs, my upper body barely got much activity other than some rotational strength here and there), and it wasnt till later in my life i really tried pushing myself a bit more physically and tried to tone down overusing my brain more than i need to while still trying to exercise it, and just overall balancing mental exhaustion and physical exhaustion. now i sleep pretty well. (most of the time).
"a strong body makes the mind strong" an old, over-quoted quote by thomas jefferson, but just because it's over-quoted does not make it untrue.
i want to note, i'm not a health expert so i'd take my words pretty lightly and not too seriously but it's something i felt i could at least say because it helped me and might help some random person scrolling the comments.
also, fantastic video. it was a super fun and interesting watch.

One thing that I've heard is that our pets don't react to sounds we didn't notice because they hear better than us - they listen better than us. We mostly don't have to worry about predators sneaking up on us and take in so much information visually that we just tune out a lot of sounds and smells that other species don't because we decide that they're not important before they reach our consciousness. Take away sight and the things like the sounds echoing off the wall in front of you become more important because they're providing information you can't get through another sense. In other words, it all comes down to... FOCUS.

Important tips if you try to do this: It matters on how long you do it for, if you do it for a week or 2, or just one full day, it also matters on how old you are, if you're a baby you'll be blind, if you're a child you'll probably develop amblyopia (Lazy eye), and if youre and full grown adult it wont have much effect on you, but you wont be comfortable for some time in the light and that's it no long term consequences, but if you do just know these affects, strong hallucinations every 12 hours after taking the blindfold off, depth of field, shapes and sizes, and object of sort for a few hours. and within half a day you'll see normally again, and your mind will be very expanded. :)

You look just like Alfredo Linguini of Ratatouille in the kitchen when he was blind folded with a mouse on his head. At least he had a mouse to guide him.

I try this on a very small scale, I have all my lights turn off 1hr before bed and I have blackout curtains so it gets daaaaark in my house. And simple tasks like walking in to the kitchen and getting a glass of water takes like 20 mins.

14:41 I don’t think that’s because your senses were heightened maybe more so because you were bored enough to listen deeper, it was one of your only forms of entertainment besides the challenge of not seeing as well as having to film it and talk to viewers which also gave some sort of a stimulus. This is a really cool experiment although I don’t think 24 hours is enough but any more than that and you would go insane
