    I currently have all my Lutron switches on Wink, and they work great. There I can great more robust automations, but I did buy the Lutron bridge, so I might move them over their bridge. Thanks for a great review.

    Lutron is reliable in the sense you said - they keep working for years and years - I have never had one fail. However they are also reliable in the sense that programming just doesn't get forgotten, they always respond to scene commands 100% correctly. I have had many automation products that fail on all these counts. Lutron is also extremely easy to use for both hub/app and direct device configuration.

    With the hall lights. Setup an automation to turn on the upstairs light when the sensor turns on the first set of lights. Their may be a slight delay but it should work.

    I built a new house and have very high over head garage door motors (they mount to side of doors and no lights or motion lights) there are just traditional lights on ceiling with toggle switch. I think this will help me get the light situation when wife/kids pull into the garage at night solved using sensor and switch thanks!

    I've been using insteon for 15 plus years, they just went belly up. I liked the programmability of insteon, for instance, I programmed my switches to turn the lights on at 50% when you tap the switch or when you ask your voice assistant to turn them on.
    Can the Lutrons be setup like that?
    Any other recommendations, right now every light switch in the house is insteon.

    This my second house with 3 years in current house with lutron caseta dimmers no issues at all… it’s just work.
    We have multiple remotes for Sonos and lights that programmed to control all the lights on and off…one press on the remote and all lights will go off.
    Also it’s always work with HomeKit and 3rd party door contacts..

    Lutron literally invited light dimming.
    Keep in mind Caseta is their base smart switch they have professional smart lighting solutions that have more variety and better designs. See Ra2 and Radio select.

      You need to apply occupancy sensors to the plan - that will allow you to have the lights turn on when you occupy the space you want to illuminate.

    I have been using Caseta dimmers for over 5 years and it's been a hit and miss depending on what you're dimming.
    Caseta dimmers work but are limited by their outdated, analogue dimming circuitry which Lutron has been using for well over 30 years. It's old and inefficient technology that's very limited. Expect to loose about 12% of your supply voltage to the dimmer's antiquated technology. It was really noticeable back in the Halogen lighting days with Lutron's previous dimmer lines and still noticeable now with the Caseta line when you use higher end LED PAR20, PAR30 and PAR38 LEDs with a super high output and high CRI. What you see with a voltage meter at the e26 socket with the dimmer at full setting is around 103V to 106V on a 120V supply which ends up taking the edge off high performance LED lights and making them look average.
    If you are only using average, middle of the road LEDs and/or almost always dimming them, then it's no problem as you won't miss having 12% less light output at the top to begin with. How Lutron can call these 'smart light controls' when they are still using 30+ year old analogue dimming technology is beyond embarrassing. Why not go completely digital when the light sources these days are for the most part digital?

    • @TheZanyRumon
      @TheZanyRumon 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If they are 5 years old you were one the bleeding edge - the new dimmers and switches are new technology - so they do ELV really well now. Ra2 Select has also just come out - its much more flexible than Caseta but programs the same way. . .

      @@TheZanyRumon Thanks for the clarification! Our electrician just installed new Lutron Caseta dimmers a week ago as part of our whole-house remodel. We had all LED lighting installed. Some fixtures required the ELV dimmer switches. It all looks great! It doesn’t seem we’re missing any top-end voltage.

    These are great switches but I would not use them for an entire house. They have a 75 unit limit. This limit includes all switches, pico remotes, and fan controls. Back when I first started using these they were listed for a whole house, now I am closing in on the max count and I can't finish my system. Lutron does have systems that are not as limited but I don't want to replace all the units I have already installed. That would waste a lot of money and I've been told the systems are not compatible.

    • @KaitlinLuksa
      @KaitlinLuksa 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Geez, I have a huge house and I can't see myself needing 75 of these things. I don't need every single room in my house on a smart switch. I counted every place I could see us wanting one and I only came up to 35 (including pico remotes, outdoor outlets and smart blinds in our bedroom), giving us still 40 more we could add if we wanted them in the 6 kids' and guest bedrooms, three additional bathrooms, the garage, and the laundry room, and even enough still for smart blinds in the main living area.
      Eta: out of curiosity I counted every single switch we'd ever, ever replace (I only excluded ones that are inside closets or utility rooms). I included any additional pico remotes we'd need, outdoor plugs, and even Lutron smart blinds in our master bedroom and all main living areas and I still only got to 65. My house is 5500 sq. ft. not including the living space in our fully finished basement. 75 seems like ample for nearly any home owner, I think it's completely fair for Lutron to advertise this as a system for your whole home.
